Mr. C is in the house at beautiful Richardson Stadium in Davidson, N.C. this afternoon for a Pioneer Football League game between the San Diego Toreros and the Davidson Wildcats this afternoon. San Diego can be the first team to clinch an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs with a win today that would wrap-up the PFL championship. The 7-2 Toreros are looking for their second straight playoff berth and their third in for years. Davidson is 2-7 and looking for a big upset on Senior Day.

It is my first visit at Richardson Stadium since a season-ending victory by the Wildcats over Bridgewater in 1993. Feel free to join in the conversation as I keep track of the game today.

A big pass play gets Davidson into USD territory at the 34 after the Wildcats stopped the Toreros' first drive.

A 2-7 record would be cause for celebration at Davidson given past performance, except for who those two wins were over: Brevard and Guilford.

San Diego stopped a fourth and one run at the 25 to turn the ball over on downs. NFL prospect TE Ross Dwelly had a big catch to the DC 18 on the next play to set up a TD rush by Joseph Benda. USD leads 7-0 with 8:12 left in the first period.

A Georgetown-Davidson game would have been a good matchup this season.

There are rumors around here that Davidson will make a coaching changes in the next couple of weeks, replacing Paul Nichols

San Diego converts a 4th and one from the 20 on a pass from Anthony Lawrence to freshman Emilio Martinez and then Lawrence hits sure-handed Justin Priest for the TD pass. 14-0 Toreros with 1:50 left in the first period.

San Diego is on the move again early in the second quarter. The Toreros score on Blake Martin's Wildcat run to expand the lead to 21-0 with 12:17 left in the period.

Some precision passing from San Diego moves the ball and Martinez finishes things with a TD run to make it 28-0 midway through the second quarter.

A Georgetown-Davidson game would have been a good matchup this season.

Davidson dropped the series--that's why GU picked up Campbell.

San Diego is down at the Davidson 8 with 10 seconds left in the half. The Toreros got called for a procedure penalty on first down and luckily had a time out left to avoid a 10-second clock run off.

And it pays off with NFL prospect TE Ross Dwelley making a great catch in the back of the end zone for the Torero TD. It will be 35-0 San Diego at the break.

It is nice to see San Diego still running the same offensive system as it did under Jim Harbaugh, with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. I have been impressed with the touch of junior QB Anthony Lawrence, the great pass route running of leading receiver Justin Priest, the obvious talents of TE Ross Dwelley and DE Jonathan Petersen, who recently broke All-American and Buchanan Award finalist Eric Baktiari's sack record at USD.

Another player playing well today is senior CB Kushan Patel, who is starting for the first time this season after playing behind two NFL corners in his first three seasons.

It is my first visit at Richardson Stadium since .

Is their Press Box still "centered" on the 30 yard line? Or did they fix that?

Davidson strikes on the opening possession of the second half with a long run by Wesley Dugger setting up a TD pass from QB Tyler Phelps to William Wicks to make it 35-7 San Diego.

I am sitting between the 30 and 35 yard lines.

Michael Bandy gets separation in the end zone for a TD catch for San Diego and it is 42-7 Toreros four minutes into the third quarter.

San Diego piled up 408 yards of total offense in the first half, 299 through the air as Lawrence went 18-of-22 with two TDs. Davidson had 135 yards of offense, with most of it coming on the Wildcats' first drive.

Another TD for San Diego as Jonathan Petersen moves from DE to FB for his first career score to increase the lead to 49-7.

As the fourth quarter starts, San Diego is going to its reserves.

Mr. C

A goal line stand for San Diego midway through the fourth quarter and the score remains 49-7.

Third-string, redshirt freshman QB Alex Farina goes 77 yards on a breakaway run for a San Diego TD and it is 56-7 with 5:3 left.

Wish USD could've had Dwelley and Bandy for the Princeton game.

Toreros would now be a good match for whatever team wins the Ivy League. That would be a nice December bowl game in Daytona, no?

Today was reportedly decision day at Presby. Anyone know what happened? Georgetown needs a new playmate.

PC is not joining the PL. That having been said, all signs point to PC strongly giving the Pioneer a look. Quoting:

"It is a comprehensive plan with tactics for strategic enrollment growth...and an athletic model based on long-term sustainability."

In other words, we're not denying anything you hear.

I wonder what PC coaches are telling recruits: "We may or may not offer you a scholarship, which may or may not be good for 4 years". If they are not going non-scholarship, they have really screwed over their football team's recruiting.

By playmate, I meant an Eastern nonscholarship/PFL replacement for Davidson on the Hoyas scedule.
