Lamar at HBU - Lamar is just a steaming pile....
Nicholls at SFA - bye week for SFA will ruin Nicholls' playoff hopes
SHSU at ACU - this is the kind of game Keeler has been known to lose. Be careful.
NWST at McNeese - Cowboys should win at home, but it won't be easy
UCA at UIW - Bears easily.....

If McNeese and Nicholls both win out, and UCA and SHSU take care of their business, it think the SLC gets 4 in total with two seeds.

UCA, SHSU and McNeese should win out. Nicholls could as well, but will have a tougher time against SLU. Depending on what happens in the other conferences, it could make the final bracket interesting. I would like to see more than 2 SLC teams in play...

Time to get rid of our bottom feeders in our conference so we can get ranked higher. I just don't believe NDSUs loss should have moved them further than 3 or 4...tops. Bison are too good year after year.

It is only about a cent and a half opinion, but I still think Nicholls is the better rounded team than SLU right now and still say they can win the game. I have mixed feelings about HBU after watching what they did against NWST and what NWST did against us. HBU does have some skill and when strange things happen against them I try to give them a little credit. If Nicholls struggled against them a little I wouldn't read into it too much unless there truly is injury or other issues at this point. I still would like to see as many SLC teams as possible be able to mess with the play off bracket as much as I would like to see ACU play spoiler to either SHSU or UCA.

OK. It's just odd to me if there is no real known reason. I could understand if there was severe weather forecast, or like Northwestern State who changed the start time to accommodate fans who wanted to watch LSU/Alabama xeyebrowx ....So just curious. It would take a hurricane or an act of Congress to get McNeese to change its home game start time. People are still up in arms over moving the start time from 7 PM to 6 PM. :D

From what I have heard today, ACU just found out the other day of the time change as well. Many people won't be able to make it since they already had made plans around the 6pm scheduled time. I don't know how true it is that ESPN works directly through the conference for these time slots (ESPN makes final time decisions) and that schools don't have much choice if they want the coverage. If so, I guess the question is how worth it is it to agree to that?

BEAR

I know I'm getting old but there was a time when TV used to take timeouts when teams took timeouts or between quarters and halftime.

Now they force teams to take timeouts, cut off momentum, and make fans in the stand bored out of their freakin' mind as a 3 hour football game stretches close to four hours now.

I don't know how many times I've seen that guy in the red shirt walk out on the field after a first down only to stop the game giving the defense an opportunity to rest and the opposition a chance to game plan. Man it sucks for the fans.

I know schools need the revenue...I get that...but its killing the sport. IMO.

It’s crazy. Our 1st quarter usually last an hour. Crazy way too long for games these days

I grew up closer to Natchitoches than Lake Charles, and almost everyone I grew up with and several members of my family went to Northwestern State, and so there is no team in the conference that I want the Cowboys to beat more than the Demons. Though McNeese, has owned the series as of late, so many of the games have been decided by a touchdown or less in the closing seconds, so this is one of those "throw the records out the window" games. The Demons have won two in a row and would love nothing better than a win in Lake Charles.

With that said, I don't know why Demon fans don't post here. And you know what? They didn't even start a McNeese thread on their fan board until TODAY. And as of this afternoon, it has ONE post. Maybe it's a trick, but those are some sad puppies over there for a team that just won two in a row.

This is the one post on the Demon board: This one used to be the game of the year in the Southland. We always made the trip to Lake Charles to tailgate and get into with the McNeese fans...it was a lot of fun. Always a packed house whether at Cowboy stadium or at Turpin. The back and forth on the message board was intense and the name calling was very creative. Who can forget McOneandone in honor of the Cowboys always losing in the first round of the playoffs. Boy did they hate that nickname!! Oh for those days again...

I remember one year when several of the SLC fan bases were using the Delphi forums, you would go to the Demon forum, and lo and behold, you would hear the lovely strains of Jolie Blonde! Those were the days!

Lamar at HBU - But to be honest, who knows anymore? I'll give Huskies a slight home field edge, but that's it
Nicholls at SFA - Nicholls may have some sloppy wins, but they're still wins. I expect a close one
SHSU at ACU - If this was earlier in the season, Kats might win by a blowout. But ACU is playing their last home game of the season and probably want a good game to go out on
NWST at McNeese - Demons are on a two-game winning streak and this is a rivalry game. But those two other teams were HBU and ACU, and Cowboys are playing at home
UCA at UIW - UIW has proven surprisingly competitive on their home field this year, but Central Arkansas seems unstoppable in the SLC this season. If this was the NFL and UCA needed to rest their best players, maybe Cardinals have a shot. But this isn't the NFL.

ACU has scheduled our old D2 rival Angelo State to be our 1st home game of next season. I was hoping for an FCS team but this will have to do. I’m just hoping we win.

It's a vicious cycle: fan interest wanes so teams become more and more desperate to find alternative means to fund their programs. They turn to televised games for advertising income, which in turn stretches out games due to commercial breaks, making attending a game in person more unbearable, leading to further fan interest waning.

Unless you have some great promotions and stadium excitement in place to entertain the fans during downtime, it's going to suck.

Seems like when athletic programs try to balance money and fans they end up shooting themselves in the foot either way to one degree or another. All schools can do is look for the smallest caliber gun...

There are a few aspects draining the Southland. A couple schools and the 9 game schedule.

If Nicholls beats us next week I don’t see anyone putting them in. Or McNeese which is hard to believe with two 9-2 teams. IMO they should be. If two 9-2 teams get left out the conference has a real problem and It falls on the conference office. Hope I’m wrong just reading the various brackets predictions.
