I think the 2 time defending champs from D1-AA/FCS rolling into the Big House and taking that win was the most significant win for FCS ever. Twas a damn significant win for FCS no matter how you count it.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. You bison can nuzzle their schmeckles all you like because you never played them or had to listen to them bitch, complain, and run down the entire subdivision while they were getting their ass beat on the way "up".

Great win for the FCS.

Wish we could have played App State....5 year transition period was a joke for the Bison.

For Montana peeps, AE wrote a letter to this year's App State team and in it he says:

Once the game started, I was actually a bit surprised by the lack of noise at the Big House. Even after Michigan would score. I mean, you could hear the fans and everything, but it wasn’t as intense of an environment as I expected. (In fact, I can honestly say that when we played Montana my senior year, that stadium was way louder than Michigan Stadium.)

Armanti Edwards was still the most impressive player I've seen at the FCS level.

Have to agree, at least top 5 FCS players in modern times. Cant recall how many years Randy Moss was in FCS

The best football game I've ever seen was our loss to App St in the 09 quarters. We scored a TD by stripping the punt returner and running it back (I flipped out so bad I nearly passed out), then Armanti led ~80 yard drive in two minutes and scored on a 4th down with 7 seconds left. He was incredible.

We did beat them the year before to end their championship streak 👍🏻

I remember watching the ASU - Michigan game with my late father. We were THRILLED with ASU's win.

That win will be an all-time win for sure.

And interesting question is, "Did that win help increase the talent we have at FCS programs?"

We've increased our talent levels, and coaching to where there are multiple FBS upsets every season.

I think there's talent spread evenly across the FBS and FCS. I really don't see much distinction most of the time between the G5 teams and the FCS programs.

I see a huge difference between everyone else and the power conference teams.

I think there is a slight difference. But the real difference is in depth.

I was in college station at the Corner Bar watching App St block that FG. The whole place went nuts. Then A&M rolled Montana St......so it was a great day

10 years! Wow, has it been that long?! I'm getting old...

I never thought I'd say this, but I miss App State and Gerogia Southern as SoCon memebers...they provided stiff competition that made everyone raise their game up. Don't get me wrong, I still think the SoCon is in pretty good shape today, but you can't deny that for a while those teams were the faces of our conferences, the teams we were all gunning for. They raised the level of play in the league.

What is most interesting is that that App team lost 2 SoCon games and made the playoffs as an at-large team. 1-0 in the Big Ten, 6-2 in the SoCon.

I don't miss the whining, crying, bitching, and moaning.

Like the quote from Armanti Edwards, "In fact, I can honestly say that when we played Montana my senior year, that stadium was way louder than Michigan Stadium."

Dont get me wrong, I like YSU's stadium and everything, but I honestly have on my bucket list to see a big game in Montana's stadium. Looks like the best stadium in FCS in my opinion and I will have to get there one day.

I watched that game live - it was the first broadcast carried by the main Big Ten Network feed (I believe YSU-Ohio State was on the alternate feed, feel free to correct me on this one YSU folks), and dweeby teenaged me was already fascinated by what it meant for the sport. The fact that the game itself was incredibly compelling definitely helped.

After this one, the bottom fell out of the Big Ten for the next five or so years, and its nadir was the 2011 Illinois-Penn State game, which was both Joe Paterno's last game as a coach and an event that set the sport back to when he started coaching in 1950. For our division it was like a hit of rocket fuel. I don't think the boost has petered out yet.
