Richmond at Sam Houston- If Sammy has filled in the holes they said they had and have a healthy QB, it will be close. Sammy by 3
McNeese vs. Nicholls- McNeese will be better this year but Fourcade(sp?) of Nicholls will play great. Cowboys by 7.
NWST vs Louisiana Tech. Demons forgot how to win. LT by 21.
Lamar vs. North Texas- It's North Texas. Lamar can do this.
SLU vs ULL- SLU came on strong last year. I see the fbs upset.
SFA vs SMU-SMU rolls in the game. SMU by 21.
HBU vs. Texas State -FBS over weak HBU team easy. TS by 35.
UCA vs. Kansas State #18 FBS KSU wins at home by 21. UCA picks up a nice paycheck.
ACU vs. New Mexico Not real familiar with NMU but they win it.
UIW vs. Fresno State -Fsu wins it by 21.

Richmond at Sam Houston Home field should be the difference in this one although I hope the Kats blow them out.
McNeese vs. Nicholls Strictly a homer vote. I have no idea what McNeese will do this year but this one could get ugly either way.
NWST vs Louisiana Tech
Lamar vs. North Texas
SLU vs ULL Not sure the Lions are up for it but ULL is down this year so this is my only maybe on an FBS win.

ACU vs. New Mexico (28 1/2)
UIW vs. Fresno State (24)

Lots of lopsided games say the bookies.

Might be fun to pick losing teams that will beat the betting line. That is, games will be closer than bettors think.

I'm going with SFA, UCA & ACU to beat the line, meaning these teams will lose but the difference will be under the predicted margin

Lots of concern on our QB play with Blumrick likely getting the start, but we will be lucky to be within 31. Just hard to gage right now with so many new personnel and players. Also our FBS record is pretty bad, slaughters ever one of them.

Probable starters on the offense (* Returning)

QB 10 Jake Blumrick 6-2 202 So. Pearland, Texas

RB 7 Kijana Amous 5-11 210 Sr. Mansfield, Texas

Also with the storm going toward Lake Charles..will the first SLC matchup (McNeese v. Nicholls) happen on the 31st?

McNeese is currently practicing at the ULL indoor facility , of all places, which is forcing me and several other long time Cowboy fans to swallow our bile...

Of course, the ULL President and a couple of other high ranking officials are from Sulphur, which is where the McNeese athletic director is from (Along with me, Doc, GeauxPokes, Dthib and several other regular and semi-regular AGS posters) so maybe there were some backchannel communications going on...

I hate it, but I gotta give the Cajuns their props....

So, McNeese is practicing despite the local flooding, assuming the field in Thibodaux is playable, I think that means the game can go forward...

Rain or shine, a few of us are heading down to Thibodaux for the game on Thursday. Looking forward to watching two good football teams get after it. Don't get a chance to watch other SLC games in person very often.

August 31, 2017:

Final: Nicholls 37 McNeese 35.

Nicholls wins it on a last second field goal. Heck of a game!

It's game one so each team has some kinks to work out obviously. Tabary over threw some critical passes and it looked like both defenses were tired by the fourth quarter. That must have been a four hour game.

Not a problem 117 yards of stupid and untimely penalties along with a half dozen trips to the red zone with nothing to show for it, missed extra points yada yada. Game should have been a blow out in the first half but cie le vie'

We knew this game was a set up from the get go and it worked according to plan for the Colonels. Hats off to their QB and receiver #13 (they played together in HS). Good thing for the Kats is they do not have to travel to Thibodaux this year.

Good luck tonight xthumbsupx

I was there at field level, and despite McNeese controlling the game statistically, I thought, physically, the game was fairly even. McNeese ran 33 more offensive snaps than Nicholls. Nicholls hit a couple of big plays and had three turnovers, and just never really had the ball. But they played good red zone defense and controlled McNeese's base running game for the most part. The game was sloppy, typical of many openers, but I thought both teams brought great effort. I would also like to commend the Nicholls community on a great crowd and atmosphere for FCS football. Our league is a lot stronger than what is perceived nationally, particularly the upper half.

Judging by week 1 scores Apparently no one in the SLC learned to play defense in the off season. Except Houston Baptist. And they don't seem to know how to play offense.

And special teams. We gave up two kickoff returns for TDs and had try for two returned for two points. We gave up a few big plays but actually played okay defensively. Offense played very well.

Yes they are.

After watching the SLC games this weekend Sammy showed why they are the favorite and SLU showed they will be contenders. It was hard to say if UCA will contend because I see nothing different from last year BUT they did play a team I think will be in the FBS playoffs. McNeese ...what can I say. yikes.

We lost one of our starting safeties Trey Ramos, not good.

OL got man handled, couldn't block much of anything.

Special Teams was a big plus, which is usually a weakness.

Pace, Nacho, Parker, and Goree are going to be good if our QBs can get time in the pocket to actually throw it down field.

Blumrick is going to need time to develop, as he got beat up pretty good.

We will see more of what we have against a strong Southern Utah defense.

Not confident in the QB position this season and with the OL struggles this could be a long bad season for SFA.

Foster will have to play with pain this season.
