Truly the greatest running back in the history of the division...

He was a Payton Award finalist all 4 years (98-01) and an All American all 4 years. The FCS Offensive POTY is named for him and he was an inaugural inductee into the SOCON Athletic HOF. Georgia Southern won 4 SoCon titles, 2 national titles (99 & 00), runner-up in 1998, and the program's record during his tenure was 52-7.

From his wiki page: In 57 career games including the playoffs, he carried 1378 times for 9145 yards (6.6 avg), 111 touchdowns and an average of 160.44 yards per game. Let that sink in for a moment...

Here's a video of some of his 1-AA/FCS highlights including "The Run" in the 1999 title game and "The Son of The Run" in the 2000 title game:

If the NCAA would just retrospectively count postseason, no DI player would ever touch his record.

Heck of an honor! Kid made tacklers look silly....or tackling wasn't taught by his opponents coaches...but I'd think the former...xlolx

Congratulations to AP. I like that they added the part of him walking through graduation at the end of the video.

Well deserved!

They had Brian Urlacher on ESPN radio tonight and he was talking about getting inducted along with Peterson. Said that he was the Real AP and asked the host something along the lines of "Did you ever see him play in college? He was a beast!"

Payton graduated in 1975, I-AA wasn't around until the divisional split in 1978.
