I think stories like these are great. We have sensational athletes on the field who are doing great things off the field as well. When we have things like these, we definitely do need to make an effort to share them.

Thousands of miles from home and serving his country in a foreign land, one of the things that kept Lance Elmore focused on returning home from Afghanistan were the phone calls.
The phone calls to his mother to calm his and her fears about his duty. The phone calls to his coaches and teammates at Northwestern State encouraging him and telling him how proud they were of him.
On a Friday in the fall of 2003, when his mind should have been concentrating on the Demons' opponent Saturday afternoon -- Sam Houston State -- he received an urgent call.
