Since all the other threads on this board turn into a thread about decibels, i thought we could consolidate the noise talk here.

Thanks in advance, Bizon.

From his Bio on that website.

Hello, nice to meet you! I'm Brian McLaughlin and I have written about sports for nearly 20 years, as evidenced by my graying hair. I have previously worked for The Sporting News covering national recruiting, as well as selecting the granddaddy of all prep postseason teams--the Parade Magazine All-American teams. Prior to that, I worked for several newspapers in Florida. I outkicked my coverage when it comes to my wife and we have three young children and no life--just like everybody who has kids.

A Florida guy who appreciates good football and good fans.

Jealous much?

Not really but it's kind of that noise where instead of yelling it just sounds like a whooshing sound in your ears? Pretty much that for half the game.

Just hope they don't make up a dumb whistle in the stands penalty, it gets worse.

Any fan who blows a whistle in the stands, whether it's 4-time FCS Champions in an huge indoor facility or some D3 school with <1000 in the bleachers, should be escorted from the premises. And forced to swallow the whistle.

Not a surprising response coming from you. Bison56 gets it.

You clearly haven't played D1 football, maybe none at all. I'm all for rowdy crowds - stomp your feet, clap your hands, scream til your lungs ache, **** vuvuzela for all I care. But mimicking the sound an official makes to stop play, which can and does lead to chaos and potential career-ending injury? No player wants that.

So, stay classy.

The dome noise is so loud it cannot be accurately measured by our primitive instruments. We are all a part of it, as it is a part of all of us. It's quite spiritual. Transcendent and what not.

Or it's a bunch of rowdy North Dakotans who just really like football yelling in a compact space with poor acoustics.

The truth lies where you will normally find it, somewhere in the middle.

I heard something sounding like a whistle when I watched. Then I also saw at least one of our players just completely stop playing which seems weird to do. Would he do that just to try and get penalty on the other team and their fans? Seems like a risky proposition.

Even stranger was earlier when I guess the ref evidently announced that UNI had gotten a first down, but the chains were never moved. So, thinking that they only needed half a yard, UNI ran a dive play to pick up what they thought they needed for the first, only for them to move the chains and announce 2nd and 8 or so. UNI went on to score on that drive, so again, it doesn't really make any difference in the outcome of the game. But still.
