Today's vistory for ASU was the 13th of the season - a record for the program.

14 would be nice, of course, but this is a milestone for the Mountaineers that bears noting, even if it's not the biggest news after today's win.

It would be interesting to hear about win records from other schools, and when the records were posted. Has anyone ever gone 15-0?

Hate to be the homer, but GSU did it in 1989. I know it was the only time in the century, but I will check if anybody did it since 2000.

Would have done it again in '98 had it not been for UMass. Don't think there has been an undefeated team since 2000. Lot's of one loss teams but no undefeated.

with more and more teams playing BCS teams and with the playoffs it will certainly be hard to go 15-0 these days.

Depends on the BCS team. We play a school like UGA and chanes are we loose. However, we play a team like Troy St. or Buffalo and our chances of winning are elevated.

Yale did 16-0 in 1894,
Penn did 15-0 in 1897,
GSU did 15-0 in 1989,
Yale did 16-0 1894,
Colgate did 15-0 in 2003,
Deleware did 15-1 in 2003,
Montana did 15-1 in 2001.
I understand "did" should be replaced with "had a record of"

Just looked again. make that 15-1. They lost to Delaware 40-0.

That being said, you better check my stats, I am prone to mistakes!

Colgate was 15-0 before the record became 15-1.
Delaware onthe other hand was not 15-0 at anythime in 2003

As much as I hate to mention it because I can't stand 'em, the Marshall Thundering Herd went 15 - 0 in 1996. Also beat a Montana team in the championship game that WOULD have gone 15 - 0 if it hadn't come along during the same year that Marshall team did.

So the two I-AA teams that went 15 - 0 were Georgia Southern in 1989 and Marshall in 1996.

Auburn 2004. 13-0.
This is a FCS site, Auburn was a great team that year and may have been the best. Go to that site and discuss it.
The question here was if any team, attempting to become a TRUE champion, by beating the contenders, had ever gone for a perfect season. I was just trying to fill in the blanks.

So the two I-AA teams that went 15 - 0 were Georgia Southern in 1989 and Marshall in 1996.
I looked, and you are right. 15-0 in 1996. I want to see the movie, "We are Marshall."

That Montana team they beat in the Championship game by 49 - 29 had beaten Oregon State 34 - 14 and won it's three playoff games by scores of 48 - 3, 44 - 14, and 70 - 7. Before playing Marshall, the 1996 Griz had outscored their opponents by an average of 44 - 15 while going 14 - 0.

Yes....but show me any team from I-AA that could beat Chad Pennington and Randy Moss....I really believe the 96 Griz were close to the best Griz ever, but Marshall may as well have been I-A at that time.

In 2001, Montana finished 15-1 with their only loss coming in the second week of the season to Hawaii. If I remember, they were the first team in I-AA to play 16 games in a season.

Chad Pennington didn't play a game in 1996. Marshall coach Bob Pruett brought a senior QB named Eric Kresser with him from Florida and Kresser started that season for the Herd before moving on to the NFL. Pennington, who much like ASU's Armanti Edwards had come in several games into the season and become the starter at Marshall as a true freshman, was redshirted in 1996.

I still believe that Marshall was the best I-AA team ever in 1996. Montana's 1996 club would have to rank near the top as well.

I thought we had a shot in 1996 but then we had to play Marshall at their house in the semi's. Lost 31-14. Not to say that we would have beat Montana the next game.

I figured Marshall, GaSo, and Montana would enter the discussion early - and for good reason.

But, from other schools, what are the program-record winning seasons? 14 or 15 wins is outstanding, but 10 or 11 is also impressive.

UMass' 13 wins this year is a school record. The '98 championship team went 12-3.

UMass' 13 wins this year is a school record. The '98 championship team went 12-3.
Congrats on that one...

It's a good side-story that ASU and UMass are having very similar seasons. ASU's '05 championship team went 12-3, also.

I always hated Marshall. The APP's did have an overall winning record against them.
