OK, so it is possible that this is not the sexiest match up this week, but it is an interesting historical rivalry with a few other interesting characteristics. In addition to the rivalry, it has playoff implications. If The Citadel were to fall to the Keydets, it would most likely destroy any playoff hopes that The Citadel has unless it pulls off the upset at Chatty or at USC. It is somewhat of a cliché to say you can throw out the current records when it comes to rivalry games, but I am sure that both teams will be at full throttle come Saturday. Let's face it, who wouldn't want to go home with the SILVER SHAKO.

The Citadel has enjoyed some success of late against VMI. They are on an 8 game win streak since 2003 and they are 17-4 since 1990. Overall The Citadel leads the series, which started in 1920, 38-30-2.

Another interesting aspect of this matchup is that it pits what is the best rushing game in the SOCON (#2 in FCS) against one of the most prolific passing games in FCS (SOCON #2 and FCS #16). For the Citadel, its hard hitting rushing game has translated in to a run for the SOCON title and possibly a spot in the playoffs. While VMI has not turned its passing success into as many Ws, those are coming. Just not this weekend hopefully. It will be interesting to see which Defense best meets the challenge.

This rivalry has two great QBs which will battle it out this Saturday. What is even better, is that The Citadel's Dominique Allen and VMI's Al Cobb will have two more years in which to lead their teams and give the SOCON fits. I believe that there are some good years ahead for both schools.

It's Homecoming at The Citadel this weekend, so hopefully we can get a good crowd, get the win, and meet UTC next week for the Championship.

I hope this game the Keydets take advantage of all trips inside the Bulldogs 25 yard line.

Vs. Wofford, VMI had 3 such trips in the first half, came away with only 3 points.......game>>>>set>>>>match... xchinscratchx
