That grass makes this field look like a high school field. Hopefully in the redoing of CAS they are replacing that with some turf.

We have 4 games left- SIU, WIU, YSU, MoSt.
MSt gets us to 6. We will need 1 out of 3 for 7 wins, 2 out 3 for 8, 3 out of 3 for being ranked.
WIU, YSU- Could be close
SIU- Should win
MoSt- They are a joke

odd how people treated Schmadeke as a god last season, now treat him as a goat.
the life of a kicker, I suppose. glad I'm not one.

Neither team played very well today. Nor did the officials, nor the field
UNI's defense once again made the difference, other than that boneheaded PI (yes, it was uncatchable, but even more reason why that contact makes zero sense).

Panthers might be able to eek out wins the rest of the way out, but their lack of offense (other than Bailey's legs) will doom them if they make the playoffs (or they'll drop another game and get knocked out)

Not sure why but I feel pretty good about the rest of season even with this terrible showing. I think both teams can agree both teams played poorly on offense. But as a SDSU fan the two teams we always seem to struggle with are UNI and NDSU. We do pretty well against the rest of the league, we just never look like ourselves against those two teams, mainly due to how they play IMO. I think the Jacks still have a great chance at a 8-9 win season. I think a seed is out of the question which really sucks cause that means another trip to fargo (barf) but maybe we get lucky with how many upsets have been happening recently.

Jacks have 4 games left. Mo St (should be a solid win), USD @ Dome (that should be a win, but rivalry), then ISU-R, and WIU. If Jacks can go 4-0, good chance of getting seed. 3-1, likely in first round. 2-2, and 4-4 in MVFC, depends on rest of field, but FBS (P5 win), and if SUU makes it then looking at the losses to other teams going to play-offs. Hopefully can get a win vs both WIU and ISU-R.

I was impressed by the commentary on the SDSU tv broadcast.
yes, it was a hometown broadcast, but they seemed fairly knowledgable on the UNI players, and were complimentary on good plays by the opponents. A few mispronounciations, but they even corrected themselves to the local pronounciation of a small town name (Tripoli) of one of the key Panther players.

(I listened to the radio broadcast on Saturday, but went back and watched the tape of the tv broadcast tonight)

I only feel good if our coaching staff pulls their heads out of their axxes and make Christon our #1 QB. If I see Lujan starting against MSU my head is going to explode. The game Stig is playing is the game of a coach who does not fear his job. Lujan is a great backup, TC is a starter. Stig needs to decide if he wants to win, or be a good guy.

We start Lujan we go 2-2 or 1-3 and either limp into the playoffs or get left home. If we start Christon we go 3-1 the rest of the way.

Agreed, I thought I heard on the broadcast that Stig specifically said that no player loses his starting spot due to an injury. That sounds good in theory but you have to make exceptions to that rule and this is a case where that's true. Christon gives SDSU such a more dynamic offense it's obvious he gives them the best chance to win. Beyond that, if you're going to pull a redshirt on the kid and trade what should be his best year of football (as a 5th year senior) for half a season of his worst year (as a true freshman) you better make that trade worth it right now.

Lujan only played 2 series the whole game though. So it seemed to me like it was more of a you can't lose your starting job to injury so we'll trot him out there twice and then put the real QB in.

He may have only played two series, but during the week he took first team reps away from Christon, a true Freshman who needs time to prep for a team like UNI.

You take a full week of practice, split the first team reps in preparation and the offense looked completely out of sync till the 2nd half when we showed signs of life. These are two completely different quarterbacks. One a pocket passer who needs a really good running game (see Zenner) to succeed against a physical defense. The other is able to make plays with his feet that open up opportunities against a physical defense. Stupid move by our coaching staff, almost as stupid as the play run on 4th and 1.

His feet didn't really open up any plays against UNI...A couple extra snaps in practice wasn't going to change that.

If UNI had an offense that was above middle school level UNI wins that thing by 21+

I didn't say it was.

UNI has the worst offense, sans MSU, in the conference. Yet they managed 336 yards of offense and 5.8 yards per play while holding the ball for just 26 minutes and going 3-12 on 3rd down. Daurice Fountain dropped a touchdown in a possession that led to zero points. UNI's second leading rusher was within 7 yards of SDSU's leading rusher.

UNI had 6 possessions end in SDSU territory, 4 of them inside Schmadeke's range on a good playing surface and managed just 10 points due to play calling and drops. Only twice did SDSU get past the UNI 40 - a TD and the TOD to end the game on a drive that UNI had 3 penalties that resulted in an automatic first down - including an atrocious PI call on a 3rd and 27. UNI had nearly as many rushing yards as SDSU did total offense.

Nothing I've said is a knock on SDSU. In fact, it shows their resilience to stay in the game.

Quite simply, just like the last 5.5 years, any kind of offensive output for UNI results in a large UNI win. That offense just doesn't exist.

You've heard the phrase 'lies, damned lies, and statistics', right? My point is, he did open up some plays with his feet, including the 3rd and long play that set up the 4th and 1 debacle to end the game. Hopefully as he gets more game experience, he is more aware of where the first down sticks are in a crucial situation like that.

All hail UNI xbowx

You should have put up 45 on us, if not for... Now I'm thinking I would like to see UNI again.

The point, we are playing a true freshman. Not a red shirt Freshman (see NDSU), a true Freshman. A kid who sat out half his senior season with a broken leg. This was his third game after having his RS pulled. Our offense was absolutely inept the entire first half. And yes, the UNI defense is good. But not that good. We looked completely out of sync before halftime. I believe the uncertainty of our head coach deciding he had to start Lujan was a HUGE mistake.

Our offense is completely different with Christon in the game. It is very vanilla with Lujan playing. He needs a big running game to get anything going, he can't run it himself. Our offense is very dynamic with TC. Partly because he can take off at anytime and break a big one. Two very different mindsets. It will screw up the timing of your offense, especially the offensive line by moving between the two. Their skills are not compatible. You can disagree, that's the beauty of the internet.

Our drives in the 1st half (96 yards total)
3 plays 0 yards (Lujan)
6 plays 16 yards (Lujan)
5 plays 29 yards
9 plays 39 yards
3 plays 3 yards
1 play - 1 yard

Not sure where you're getting that. The fact that Lujan had all of the first team reps in practice this week may have cost SDSU a win, based on the fact that the offense looked completely out of sync. Yes, UNI has a good defense and had a good game plan, and I think they deserve all kinds of credit for executing it well. However, with our defense holding you to 10 points, you can't blame us for feeling like we should have won that game based on our offensive output the rest of the season (minus the NDSU game). We kept shooting ourselves in the foot with penalties, and kept coming up just short of a first down on plays. I think we win if the coaches would have done 1 of 2 things: 1. Leave Lujan in for the whole game, and let him get back into the rhythm after being out for 2 weeks. 2. Give Christion the first team reps through practice all week, start him from the get go, and don't make him feel like he's going to get yanked if he makes a bad decision. I was afraid of this situation leading a loss all week leading up to this game, and it came to fruition. Hopefully giving Lujan 1st team reps last week and starting him for 2 series was enough for them to keep the claim of "not losing your job to injury", and now they can move forward with Christion as our QB for the next 3.5 years.

SDSU got 35 penalty yards on that final drive and were about to be forced into a 3rd and 27 if not for an atrocious PI call

Pretty much every single UNI fan all last week said UNI was going to score less than 14. That's what happened.

You can't blame use UNI fans for feeling like it should have been a 20 point win because our top WR dropped a touchdown pass, half of the incompleteness were missed a field goal, kicked a field goal rather than going for it on 4th and very short, and had 4 drives stall out inside the SDSU 40.

I like Lujan, he's a good kid. He had Zenner behind him last year running for over 2000 yards. Sumner came back to finish the regular season and was our starting QB in the playoffs. Lujan had a good early season this year, against sub par defenses who weren't very physical. The NDSU game exposed a lot of problems. Our O Line is not in sync and has a hard time protecting the QB. Take a peak at the final play from the game Saturday. A missed assignment by our left guard blew the play up. Not the first time something like that has happened this year.

Offensively it seems that we move the ball better when we have a QB who can take off. Lujan can not take off, Christon can. We have a coaching staff who can't seem to decide what to do. The two QBs are not close enough in style to play them both and expect your team to be able to adjust. You should know that platooning the QB position is a recipe for disaster. If it means playing Lujan, than name him the starter and hope we don't run into a physical team in the playoffs, if we get there.

We have a lot of issues right now. Thankfully we have MSU coming up. That is the first game against a team not in the top 25 since the RMU game. We'll see what happens the rest of the year, I'm not overly confident that our coaches know what to do.

Had Kollmorgen been given any confidence by Verduzco and Farley, besides the 2013 year (even though they gave NDSU a hell of a game with some questionable calls on both sides), easily could have ran the table between them and the Bison. Kollmorgen with Johnson and X with that stout run D was a great combo that the coaching staff couldn't figure out. I feel bad for them since they have talent but the coaching staff feels the need for mediocrity. Such a shame since Kollmorgen deserves better but he seems too humble to try and force his way. Such a shame too since he should be holding some serious stats as a Panther.
