Can anybody give me an argument for Coastal over JMU?

Both are undefeated, but one is doing it with style and has an FBS win. The other is doing neither of those.

My thoughts exactly. This argument seems to happen every year with the lack of Coastal having FBS opponents. The playoff selection committee even states that and FBS loss doesn't necessarily hurt a team, but a win definitely helps them. So at this point with JMU's win over a decent SMU team. They absolutely should be above coastal

Just slot voting at its finest.

Coastal plays a schedule that makes it very easy to make the playoffs (get to 7+ FCS wins), but you would think makes it difficult to get top seed.

Personally, I don't fault a team that much for having a weak schedule. Some of that, is out of their control, conference you're in, who's willing to schedule you. But if you have a weak schedule, you better be putting away a few teams before the final drives.

I definitely don't fault a team for a weak schedule. But at the same time I can't see justifying putting them in front of a team with a stronger schedule. If both of those teams have the same record. To me the team with a stronger schedule rates that as a tiebreaker.

Yeah I guess I would vote CCU if they gave me that, I wouldn't even look at their schedule...

I'd probably have JMU above Coastal as well. Just to defend someone supporting Coastal I have this point. The one dig about JMU is their wins may actually be on par or possibly even weaker. JMU's best win is SMU, although FBS, is ranked by Massey at 133. WIU is Coastal's best win and ranked at 117.

I was with you all the way until you said SMU was a "decent team." What? SMU is 1-5 and the only win is against...wait for it...North Texas (Portland State beat UNT by 48 more than SMU did). :)

upon further inspection........ SMU is absolutely horrid. I saw them play JMU, and the first part of the Baylor game so I will admit my presumptive term "Decent" was not the best word to have used.
