Was researching club football this morning because UT-Arlington is working hard to get a club football program together as they try to move up to FCS. Anyhow, stumbled along the fact that George Mason defeated Georgetown this past year.

Check the box score and there are players listed on the G'Town football roster who played in this game.

Yet, I do not see the game listed on the G'Town schedule, though G'Town did not play that week...

Even found a news article covering the game...

So, what's the truth here? Did a Division I squad play a club team and lose? Was this an exhibition or what?

I don't know anything about your specific question(s), but the title for your thread - Did Georgetown Fall to a Club Team? - is going to bring our favorite Texas Hoya out swinging. You better hope that he doesn't know where you live.

G-town's JV team

Look at the players who scored vs GMU they were not the same who scored vs Bucknell or Chuck South. Even the kickers were different.

Yes, Georgetown did have a club team in the 1960's and 1970's.

Looked more closely...

Seems there are a few JV players that also played on the varsity squad...

I don't get this JV thing though. I'm not too knowledgable on squads in this part of the country who have JV squads. Are there many FCS JV squads?

Many Ivy/Patriot league schools have unofficial JV teams who on occasion play/scrimmage each other as well as Army/Navy Prep or some club or JC teams. Thsi was G-towns freshman and soph getting some work in against Mason's club team

You don't have JV teams???
I did not realize that but I guess that makes sense because of travel.
In PA like every school (almost) D1, D2, D3, NAIA has a JV team. Some of the JV players play for the regular team if they are needed, and just to get the younger guys some reps.
If the Gtown team played GMU, Gtown would kill them just like Clark-
ATL did (a not so good D2 team).

Lehigh and most of the PLers have JV teams that play about four games a year with nearby schools. Lehigh's will play against Lafayette's, one or two other CS teams and sometimes D-3 Moravian or Muhlenberg. Helps the frosh and some sophs to get 'game time' feel of running plays with the clock and everything. Running on the 'scout'team all the time get can get 'old'. "In my day" we had freshman football, since we couldn't play varsity.;)
