Nice win UNI! Kollmorgan looked sharp in the 4th qtr. Just about as exciting a game as that great MVFC/BSC game in Missoula two weeks ago.

Glad Jacks get all 4 MVFC 2014 play-off teams in Brookings this season.

Agreed, I didn't think either team looked elite today. Hats off to UNI, though. They definitely pulled out the win in this game. I wonder of Kollmorgen had been in the whole game if the Panthers would have won by more. He seemed to do a better job with the offense overall.

DeAndre Hall was wide open on that play.

interesting sidenote. early in the game, Hall broke a finger (or thumb, or some other bone in his hand). They were able to take him next door, get him X-rayed, his hand put in a cast, and back in time to snag that pick-6

similarly, one of UNI's receivers (Logan Cunningham) dislocated a shoulder early in the game, but they were able to pop it back in, get him checked out, and back in and able to catch a TD pass later on

That's laughable as empty as it is today. I'm not sure these guys have called one of our games before.

Empty? Were you there?

Attendance was over 12K, which is pretty standard for a home opener, especially considering it is competing against Iowa/ISU. Crowd was good, loud.

I was not there, which gave me an even better view of the crowd. Even if the home side was completely full, which I'm sure it wasn't, there was not 12k.

Not sure why it matters if I was there today. I've been there 100s of times over the past 25 years. I know the stadium's layout. ;)

Let's put this to rest...

I worked for the ticket office for 2.5 years. I know the layout of the dome. I know how tickets are allocated. I know how attendance is reported. Between football and basketball I've been able to correctly guess announced attendance (+/- 250) by the first media TO for nearly evwry game I've watched. I watchwd the game on TV today.

I guessed it at ~11k in attendance and would have guessed 12.5-13k reported. Based on how numbers are reported, and actually work, I'm not shocked to see 12k announced at all.

a big chunk of UNI's "fan"base are totally fairweather, and/or have other dual fandoms that often take precedence (Iowa, Iowa State, Montana, whatever).

The fans that did show up today, although not totally filling the place, did do a decent job at times of getting loud and into it.

You can tell how empty it was by the seat colors in each section. Don't need to be there to tell that. :)

It what tumbleweed time in the second half after the students bugged out. I would say, removing the band from the count, probably 1/2 of the student side left at the half. Of a tight game between ranked teams. WTF?

You can tell how empty it was by the seat colors in each section. Don't need to be there to tell that. :)1. You're greatly overestimating how many of those seats are empty/tickets unsold. The outer sections have significantly fewer seats that the inner sections. Based on those screen shots (and what I guessed watching the game) is that side is ~75% used/sold. That would mean there is ~6,100 people on that side. Assuming the other side saw even a 65% turnout, which is pretty easy to believe, that would be another ~5,300 people.

~6,100
+~5,300
~11,400

Plus if you understood how attendance is actually calculated (and very few actually do) You'd very easily see 12k announced. It's why I was semi-shocked we didn't see 13K (+/- 200) announced.

We still live in a state where Iowa/Iowa State 1000000% run the show.

Half time hit at about 2:30, did it not? Guess what kicked off at 3. Yep, Iowa/Iowa State. 30 minutes to get out of the dome and back to the bar/house/apartment to watch that game sound about right.

Given the fact it was CyHawk week, a kick off that was 3 hours earlier than normal (to try to steal people from that game rather than kicking off an hour after that game started), and being the home opener for a team that got it's **** pushed in the week before by Iowa State I'd say today's turnout was pretty damn good.

clenz
September 12th, 2015, 11:24 PM
Oh...

KCRG just showed the highlights from today - the non-student side was easily 75% full (camera shot was the TV camera at full zoom out facing that side of the dome). I'd up my guess to probably 6,700 on that side and based on the highlights I'd move my of ~5,200 on the student side. That gets us to 11,900, and would make an announced crowed of 12,292 100% believeable. Makes me even more shocked we didn't see an announced of between 12,523 and 12,891

This. Nick Splendorio filled in nicely with 9 catches for 159 yards. Penalties and defense killed us. You can't play that sloppy, give up 266 on the ground, and expect to win.

Especially whole only having 26 on the ground yourself on 25 carries.

Throwing for that many yards is nice looking, but UNI dominated the LOS and made many of the throws off timing, meaning little YAC, or incompletions.

I think it was SE that said Baldwin prides himself on a 50/50 split but it was a 2:1 pass to run ratio.

2014 Season: 552 rush attempts, 527 pass attempts. 51/49 split.

2013 Season: 521 rush attempts, 515 pass attempts. 50/50 split.

It kind of was though.

The battle for the LOS was completely lost early in the game by EWU. They still got a ton of passing yards, but there was no run threat to keep the line backers honest.

I know we can't take plays away from the game, but there was only a couple plays that really gave EWU many of those yards (the explosive plays...20+ yards)
73 yard broken coverage TD to Kupp
25 yarder to Bourne
41 yarder to Kupp
36 yarder to Sblendorio
53 yarder to Stiles

The rest were 5-12 yards (with a couple in the 13-20 range). Again, I know we can't take those out of the game but that's 44% of the yards on 13% of the completions.

UNI played a type of prevent zone, if you will, underneath. They realized the speed of EWU's WR couldn't be kept up with so it was "Keep them in front of you and gang tackle as soon as he catches the ball". Don't you think those 7-12 yard completions become 15-20 real quick if you average more than .9 ypc and aren't forced to abandon it by the middle of the second quarter?

How's Kupp doing with the hip pointer. I had one as a DE and played through it, but it was rough cutting or shuffling and crossing over. I would imagine he's going to have it rough.
