When I first read this article, I was surprised to see that there were going to be no repercussions for Morlock, but after watching the video, I'm glad he isn't going to be punished. The Griz fan that was bothering Morlock deserved to be punched. It looks like Morlock tried to push him away rather than punch him, so that's good. If you check out the pictures I attached, you can see in the first one that the fan is clearly following Morlock. In the 2nd picture, the fan starts to grab at Morlock. In the 3rd picture, the fan gets right up in Morlock's face, this is where he may have grabbed the face mask, but it's hard to tell from this angle. In the 4th picture, Morlock turns to the guy and pushes him away. In the 5th picture, you can see the guy falling and grabbing onto Morlock. After that, Morlock clears the fan with one more shove. Honestly, I think Morlock handled it as well as he could have. The fan was trailing and grabbing him for a while and he didn't do anything until the fan got in his face. At that point, Morlock could have reacted violently, but he just tried to get away from the fan. It sucks that fans like this ruin the moment and lead to the mass banning of fans storming the field. The whole altercation takes place starting at about 2:49 in this video, where you can see the fan pushing one of the referees, so I would venture to guess that this guy had consumed his fair share of alcoholic beverages. https://youtu.be/-bcHpziyzQY

An unfortunate, ugly aftermath to a very good game.

Pardon the pun, but the whole situation was a lot of smoke without much fire. It's tough to tell looking at the video whether it was a shove or a punch but Morlock says it was a shove after the fan grabbed him twice, the second time by the facemask, after Morlock tried jogging away the first time.

I'm glad Morlock didn't react more violently than he did and, consequently, glad he won't be punished. I really hope Montana is able to find the dip**** that did it and ban him from the stadium. There should be absolutely no tolerance for that and it paints what is an incredibly classy fan base in a bad light they don't deserve.

I have no idea why people think that is a punch versus a "fore arm shiver" to get the guy off of Morlock. He reacted a lot better than I would have.....

Bison player did nothing wrong at all. Idiot fan. No reason for that whatsoever. I would have punched the guy.

Hopefully the fan is banned from the stadium or something. That should never happen.

Go back a few seconds and you can see the same dude having an altercation with one of the refs.

...and considering the timing, he was very possibly already on the field during the game. So it had better not have been a recruit or redshirt freshman.

Looking at the pictures the Line Judge caught most of what happened. I am willing to bet that it goes in the game report from the officials. As an official I worry about this crap all the time. Our HS crew has been chased out of a game and had a drunk throw a punch, it ended up hitting the AD that was walking with us. Scary none the less.

I can't find the video, but last night on Valley news live I saw what looked like a Media Badge that was around this fans neck.

Hopefully they find the dumbass and he's gone the way of the dodo. You don't do **** like that.

That is a regrettable act by a moron of a fan if that is who it was and Morlock deserves zero punishment for defending himself in that fashion and I congratulate the young man on not crushing that ****ers skull.

Sure as hell don't know why some folks are an a**, but some are. I think the NDSU player handled it VERY well, regardless of if he struck or just pushed the guy. It was a measured response. Morlock was never at fault, yet had he broke the guy's jaw there would have been big problems for him. So I'm glad the guy had a cool head after a big loss and also that he isn't being held responsible for some other guy's stupidity. As to the fan being a "big guy", I'm not sure how tall Morlock is. Yet in photos #1 & 3 he appears to be a little shorter than Morlock (however tall that is). One thing we know for sure is the guy isn't very bright and if he is identified there will be repercussions.

Nice. Is dude seriously in the face of a player on a team with four rings in a row and in the first game of the year? Really? Better a loss now than later. i.e. Sammy to D2.

I wasn't going to comment on this but I think I will. It looks like a lot to do about nothing. I think the idiot fan was lucky getting in the face of a player who just lost a close game and getting away with just being shoved away.

Fans- stay the hell away from an opposing player. It is bad enough to yell insults at one, but to put your hands on one puts you at serious risk.

That guy is lucky that he didn't suffer the same fate that Mike Curtis dished out to a fan back in 1971.

The audio wasn't there but when Curtis went back to the Colts huddle one of the teammates asked him why he would do something like that and his reply was in the order of "That man was breaking a city ordinance!".

I like how the ref saw the guy going down and saved the football from hitting the ground instead.

When you run onto the field and make contact with a player, whatever comes next is your own damn fault. He is lucky Chase was restrained in his response and kept his cool the best he could, that whole thing could have gone much worse for everyone involved.

I hope Montana can track that bozo down and make an example of him. Guys like that are the ones that wreck things for everyone.

This wouldn't even have been a story except for some reporter at the Missoulian (Kyle Sample) tweeted a partial video while making it sound like all the fan did was say something to Morlock. Believe me, North Dakota media would have been all too happy to pillory Morlock.

I've watched this video quite a few times and I feel the "fan" wasn't a fan and instead was on the sidelines during the game. No idea if he had a media pass or was a redshirt freshman or whoever, but I bet we will hear more about this incident because of this.

Thanks to this video we can pretty much know for a fact it was one of the redshirts (from what it looks like) that was already on the field.

Jump to about the 3:40 mark...you don't see the actual incident but you get an idea of where they are coming from

If it's a redshirt he needs to be punished like any other player would be and not be allowed on the field for the rest of the year or something similar. Young guy gets excited but man you gotta have some damn composure and handle things better like Morlock did.

I don't know if it's a redshirt, as he doesn't have a jersey one like the others appear too, but he definitely came from that area with the players.

I thought redshirts generally either dressed or wore street clothes and a jersey. I know redshirting is something that you plan on but you can end up not redshirting as soon as someone gets hurt

Skip to the 4:20 mark in the video. On screen left there's a guy in a baseball hat, maroon griz shirt, and a field pass hanging around his neck that looks like is getting pushed away from the fray by a couple of buddies. Shortly after that he crosses in front of the camera (no longer being restrained) and starts patting Griz players on the back. Is that the guy?

EDIT: Timing doesn't match up. Must be a different guy.

Maybe I misunderstood it, but I thought you had to be on the game roster(essentially "dressed") before the first snap. Teams are limited in how many can dress. While I'm sure some true redshirts dress just in case, this guy was in street clothes.

I've been studying the two videos. I don't think its a redshirt because you can see the one in jeans take off in a sprint in front of the group, and he runs past the ref that has been accosted. Whoever that dude is, to get there that quickly he had to have been on the sideline.

He definitely doesn't have a jersey, and he definitely didn't come from the area by the players. He had to have come straight from the sidelines. If you watch the original video, once it pans over to the middle of the field, you can see fans jumping the fence to get on the field, so I'm sure he did that. Here's a picture of him... I tried randomly typing on my keyboard and saying "enhance..... enhance..... enhance", but i just couldn't get it to be more clear. If you watch at around the 3:50 point when the TD is scored it shows the group in the endzone, must be redshirts even though its supposed to be a media area. The guy that went after the ref and eventually Moorlock came from that area.

The timing doesn't work out. Like I said, the redshirt in the jeans takes off in a sprint in front of the group in the endzone video. In the other video you can see the ref being accosting before the redshirt makes it to midfield.

Plus the dude isn't wearing a jersey.

False. Black Bear.

Bears, Beats, Battlestar Galactica.

I would take your comment seriously, but this issue has been played out long enough, and you're clearly wrong. So all you get is a snarky Office quote.

What about the statement is false...the dude came from that area. I didn't say that he was a redshirt. I simply said that the group standing there at the time of the TD appeared to be Redshirts. And what has been lost in this thread of finding the person who did this is that UM has already apologized to both the school and the team.

Because the guy that went after the ref and Morlock clearly came from the sideline. It doesn't take much to play those two videos side by side, match them up, and you can easily see that no one from the end zone area would have been able to get to the ref in the middle of the field. He came from the sideline, end of story.
