Walter J. Zable

Walter Joseph Zable (June 17, 1915 – June 23, 2012) was an American businessman, entrepreneur, semi-professional football (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football) player and standout college athlete. He was the founder, chairman and chief executive officer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_executive_officer) (CEO) of Cubic Corporation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubic_Corporation), a public corporation providing military defense equipment and automated fare collection equipment. At the time of Zable's death, he was the world's oldest public company CEO and Cubic was worth 1.28 billion dollars (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar).[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_J._Zable#cite_note-UTSD-1) Earlier in his life he had played semi-professional football for the Richmond Arrows in the Dixie League (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixie_League_(American_football)). Some sources also mention him as having played for the National Football League (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League)'s New York Giants (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Giants), although no official Giants records exist of his having played for the team.

Zable earned a full athletic scholarship to the College of William & Mary (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_College_of_William_%26_Mary) in Williamsburg, Virginia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williamsburg,_Virginia).[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_J._Zable#cite_note-CONGRESS-3) He chose William & Mary over Harvard University (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_University) which was much closer to home and also offered him an academic scholarship.[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_J._Zable#cite_note-UTSD-1) Zable suited up for the Indians football (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_%26_Mary_Tribe_football) team from 1934 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1934_William_%26_Mary_Indians_football_team) through 1936 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1936_William_%26_Mary_Indians_football_team).[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_J._Zable#cite_note-GAZETTE-4) He enjoyed success on the gridiron and earned honorable mention All-America accolades his senior (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senior_(education)) year.[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_J._Zable#cite_note-GAZETTE-4) In addition to football, Zable also lettered in baseball, basketball, and track and field.
