Looks like it's moving along nicely it'll be a much nicer place than City Stadium. Is there room to add additional seating capacity if you sell out games on a regular basis? like endzone or upper deck seating?

It will be centered on the field, but it is being built so the upper deck can be wrapped around the far endzone in future phases so it will look a little lopsided until it's bowled in.

In answer to your question, yes and no.

Ah, ok. Thanks.

That stadium will look incredible when it's done. It will look completely out of place in FCS... no way y'all are planning to stick around for long.

Surely you must be kidding. Take another look. Boise St.'s stadium is a pieced together pile of dung, (and on the cheap I might add). The two look nothing like one-another.

A rendering of the potential expansion at Kidd Brewer Stadium coming in 2013xcoolx

Adds a third deck on the visitors side, north end zone seating with a press/luxury box area like the home side, new video board over the north endzone pressbox, and student athlete dorms on the NE corner of the end zone.

I read somewhere that 115 mil has already been raised and the target is for 300 mil.

Thanks a lot for the help mountianeer, and for the nice comments from others. IMO the reason we can't put it together has been poor play calling. It's hard to do anything when you are always faced with 3rd and long. Maybe we can get that right this year. Anyway, here are some pics I took at the battle for the jug this past year.

This is a view from the stands of some of the tailgating, with the new fine and performing arts building in the background.

You really can't tell it from the pictures but that bowl is nearly 2 stories deep, about 25 feet down from grade level. The three buildings above it are actually on top of a ridgeline that's 30 feet above the stadium level. On the other side of the stadium (baseball stadium side) it drops another 30 feet down to Toby Creek.

The press box is a permanent feature. The "home" deck would be constructed over it without the need for a new press box; or a new press box could be constructed as part of the new deck, and if it is then all of the existing box would be turned into suites.

They put it in the budget for 2014, so the best answer is sooner rather than later but no exact date. I have a feeling a 15K isn't going to be enough. 5K for FSL owners, 7K for students, and 3K for the visting team/general public. I believe they can add up to an additional 5K in temporary seating.

Much like in Mecca, the UT-C football players are on their hands and knees 5 times a day, praying that they don't get spanked by the rest of the SoCon.

I agree that traffic is going to be real bad for the 49ers. I've been down around the area they are building the stadium and if you increase seating to 50,000 better hope for no 12:00 games. ECU is packed enough all around campus on gamedays and the last time I checked the area around and on Charlottes campus does not have near enough suitable parking. Especially because the dorms won't be cleared out on weekends now and the parking lots will be mostly full along with the parking decks.

Sounds like you haven't been on the Charlotte campus in a while. By August, 2013 we will have another 1200 car parking deck finished within 250 yards of the stadium and there are 3 other decks of similar size with 3-400 yards of the stadium, not to mention multiple other parking decks on campus within a 5-8 minute walk in addition to a number of surface lots. I actually think Charlotte is in great shape for parking as compared to most campus' I've been on. Now, getting on and off campus from the decks/lots will be a hassle as it is everywhere. However, once you get off campus I think it won't be bad. The campus is ~1 mile from I-485 and only 2-3 miles from I-85 and I-77 with 4 lane arteries (or more) leading to each of them directly from campus.

All the more reason for post game tailgates.

I'd say maybe a third of the parking will actually be on the stadium side of campus. The rest of the parking will be spread throughout the rest of campus which has exits to Hwy. 49 (easy drive to I-485), Harris Blvd. (fairly short drive to I-85), and Mallard Creek Church Rd. It will still be bad, but I don't think it will all be concentrated at Tryon.

All that money raised and they still can't take the ####'n track out. :P

From what I've heard, taking the track out and digging down is impossible due to an underground creek/spring that runs somewhere under the field.

I am looking forward to seeing it when Cal Poly comes to town this season. I wonder if CP/EWU light it up as much as they lit up the scoreboard at Alex G. Spanos Stadium last season? I don't know if the old heart can take another tipple OT game.

There is a vote to be held in Sep to increase student fees to pay for the STUDENT section seating expansion. The fieldhouse is about 60% secured, and is all private donors.

Yeah. Wish in one hand and .... in the other.

Supposedly momentum from the announcement that we plan to try to move to FBS was going to open up hearts and wallets left and right. I mean, the way it was portrayed in some circles, you'd have to wear kevlar to keep from being injured by all the money flying into Statesboro.
Uh-huh.
Now they're hoping that students will pass an increase to student fees to help pay for something ... maybe the building, maybe a spaceport so we can start bragging to Mercury about how GSU is more than a regional university. It's national.

Maybe it was Teddy Rooselvelt who said speak softly and carry a large stick. At GSU it's speak loudly and hope that translates into funding to buy a bigger stick.

Bottom line is if we talk enough about how great we are and how much we ought to be in FBS and plan to be in FBS, people will suddenly feel compelled to give more money.
Whether they have it to give is a question that never seems to be considered. The party line seems to run along the lines "Of course they have, they've just been withholding it because of a lack of direction."
Pure horsemanure, I think, but I don't really care that much about the peripheral stuff anymore. FCS was great and I hope we stay forever, but it won't kill me if we move because it won't really be that much different than FCS where we're heading. We just won't have a playoff to look forward to.

Sad thing about all this is, the football program is great. It's something to be proud of already. It doesn't need FBS to make it any better. That's why all this smoke and mirror of FBS and keeping up with the Jones' BS is so sad.

Being a research university would substantially increase our budget.

I'm glad you are ok with mediocrity.

Oh, I see. So if you like FCS or like small school stuff and you think you fit a niche pretty well, then you are 'OK' with mediocrity. Dislike the bombast and lunacy of the BCS and you're 'ok with mediocrity.'

How so?

FBS has nothing to do with academic excellence. For folks to portray the two as if somehow one can't exist without the other is weird. It just doesn't compute, yet people stand around and say it as if it's Gospel truth. Got to go to FBS to raise our profile and attract better professors and this and that and the other. I know someone who thinks we're all crazy anyway from years of breathing and eating and drinking corporate poison, we're just to nuts to know it.

When I see the hoakum that comes with this FBS blather from GSU it makes me think he's right.

No offense. I'm not aiming this at you cannonballgsu. It's the entire mindset.

The seating expansion and field house are all part of the larger capital campaign. The seating will be paid for by student fees, if approved, and the field house is being done with private donations.

Not only that, but there's a GD long jump pit directly in the middle of the sideline. What a terrible design.

Almost completely done now.

That looks really nice! I can see how they'd build grandstands right over the concourse buildings to expand.

Only thing I don't like about that design is that the view of the field from the concourse is obstructed by the buildings.

It when in before the start of last season. $10 million. $6 in donations and $4 from a bond paid by ticket sales. The video board is new as was built by Advanced Electronic Designs in Bozeman owned by an MSU alumnus.

It appears that an expansion of our current stadium will be the direction that ODU will be looking at. Our current University master plan, (theyt have already started research) and will report findings more than likely early 2013. I think a 3 step expansion scenario is the direction that ODU will address. First, they will need to address ways to support the traffic, parking, surrounding neighborhoods, current University buildings in the vicinity of the stadium and closures of existing streets around Forman Field. 2). Seating capacities will more than likely be divided into a two-step process. 1). An expansion from the current seating capacity of 20,000 to approximately 33,000, that will more than is planned to be unveiled at the start of our Full FBS / CUSA membership in 2015. The second part of the stadium expansion might be planned 4 or 5 years beyond the 2015 season. . Just my opinion
I have attached a fan's conceptual vision of what the stadium might look like….. If the clam shell stays as the basic structure. Whatever ODU decides, I know it will be done 1st class. This all makes for exciting times at Old Dominion, and a very bright future is what I envision.

32,500 + seat expansion of present clam shell at Foreman Field at ODU

We'll probably stay at 15,300 until the offseason before the 2015 season, then add 5,000 to 10,000 temp bleachers. There's a $60M Football Stadium Expansion item on the UNC System budget for 2014, but the U hasn't indicated whether they plan to go ahead with that or not.

Saint3333

With the state of the NC budget I would hope that no state dollars are used for this project. It will need to come from student fees and donations like App's did unless there is some crazy double standard. Maybe the legislation will be confused and think UNCC is UNCCH, if so then it would pass easily.

No state taxes have gone into the construction of our stadium and like all other UNC System schools not named Chapel Hill or State, they most likely never will. Athletic venues, parking and dormitories all are paid for by state issue bonds to be paid back by the institutions through fees and donations. As fans of a state school you should already know this.

In all seriousness, there's tons of parking on campus at UNCC. One of the many advantages of being set up in between Harrisburg and downtown Charlotte is they have their own "University City" (within Charlotte limits, technically.)

There are 4 parking decks and 9 surface/tailgating lots ranging in annual donation levels from $5000k to $0 donation, but $75 parking pass.

In all seriousness, there's tons of parking on campus at UNCC.

Every August and January there's a good number of commuters that have classes starting after 9am that would disagree with you. Almost all of the students that live in nearby off-campus apartments will drive to class instead of walk. Sadly, having three 45mph streets around the campus has caused students to drive instead of walk, and caused parking demand to be at a premium. The current going rate for an annual parking pass is $455 dollars.

Ha ha bostonspider, that shot is from years ago, you can tell because the barren endzone foliage to the left is now covered by red canvas. We did get 10,500 for the Golgate game, which was great, but consistent high attendance is an issue. The good news is the attendance goes up every year. The bad news is no one here knows much about Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, Chuck South, VMI, or Coastal Carolina, which are the teams we play. We have a little rivalry at least with Liberty, but moving to the CAA will be a big improvement in that regard.

I don't think you guys will have too much trouble drawing fans to game. CAA competition will draw at least another 1-2k in locals/students/alumni I would imagine. Plus CAA teams travel very well. Long Island is chock full of Nova alumni, it will probably be our best attended away game of the year. Out last game against Richmond probably saw 1,000 visiting fans, and I've seen even better crowds from Delaware and JMU. I can see UNH, Albany, and Maine bringing so decent fans. Just curious, what is capacity?

My guess is they the endzone. That has to be filled at some point. Depending on how they want to eventually configure a full build-out, this gives them more freedom to build up in a way that best fits them in the future.

The UA-SBU rivalry is going to be massive...I mean truly massive. It honestly is going to be an instant jolt to both of these programs. I'd suspect sold-out games and fervor each season at both facilities.

Huh...that seems shortsighted in an effort to get to 20k seats. but...I am sure they know what they are doing. That said, by not doing that endzone...you can technically go to 12,000.

Starting to look more like a stadium in Albany now. First part of the tower steel is up and the lower level of the home side looks complete but for the actual seating sections.

The tower is very tall. Some of the trucks on the ground give it persepctive but at the highest point, it will end up being over 100ft above the field level.

When they designed their stadium to have a giant, stupid tower standing off to the side - in the Brutalist architectural style.

The elevator tower is one level taller than the press box and suites to accommodate an addition level on the press box in a later phase.

But of course, that is a terrible design according to Mpls

Not terrible - ugly. It reeks of communist, eastern Europe. I don't know how you guys can't possibly see that. Even after the picture I keep posting looks EXACTLY like what Albany's stadium is going to look like??

They probably dug up the same guy and paid him in Vodka to draw up the thing.

A NDSU fan making fun of someone else's stadium? The Bison play in a dome!! Man up and play out in the elements where football is meant to be played, then you can poke fun at other teams stadiums.

They did play outside for many, many years. In elements someone from eastern Washington can only read about.

Dude...the tower.

That's the entire issue. Entire. Issue.

Get rid of the stupid thing and it's a perfectly acceptable stadium design like many others.

The Albany campus has 4 23-story buildings on campus, so the tower that connects to the stadium is meant to emulate those buildings.

Modernist. Designed by a world renowned architect, who also designed the Kennedy Performing Art Center in DC, the Aon Center in Chicago and the GM Building in NYC.

It's not a traditional campus by any means but it's unique and has its own charm.

Reminds me a lot of Cal Poly's stadium.....but Poly has two "towers." I think its a unique twist on your average modern stadium (See UC Davis Aggie Stadium which is viewed by some as bland).

Is funky architecture a SUNY thing? There was some funky architecture at Stony Brook, that's why I wonder.

But MPLS chill out with getting on Albany's backs. If you want to see real communist architecture on a college campus that doesn't fit in, try Villanova

The real killer is that they just made a great grassy ellipse in front of the building, and now it looks even more ugly

It just kills me to see that big, stupid tower off to the side. They could've very easily put an elevator column as part of the grandstand structure, in the middle of it, hidden into the structure itself.

The rest of the stadium is just absolutely fine and dandy. Just that damn tower.

Yeah that Nova building is classy. Bleah! Any building with no windows and perfectly square lines should be forced to remodel by federal law.

I don't think Edward Durrel Stone would have any issue with the stadium design. It fits perfectly onto campus.

Wait til it's finished to pass judgement. There's only so much you can take from the computer generated models. I'll admit on its own the tower seems really really funky and ugly, but I trust it will be a good finished product and look forward to going to see a game up there.

Except the only thing asymmetrical in Stone's original campus was the water tower being off-center in the middle of the podium.
