Looking at your 2014 roster you guys are huge except at WR. I bet Hatcher changes that. I've known Hatch since his GSC days. He is one heck of a coach that had Conques number. Glad Hatch has nothing on Campbell! I remember watching him at QB. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

We started on February 25th and about to start week three. I've seen bits and pieces of a couple of practices and have been impressed with our new JC QB signee, Larry Cutbirth, as well as D'Shaie Landor. Cutbirth is a big, tall pocket passer with a big arm and better mobility than most of us thought. He's been very impressive so far. Landor has put on some good weight and has looked good also. It'll be a battle over the next couple of weeks to see who separates. Landor has the upper hand knowing the offense but Cutbirth has the physical tools to make up ground. We should be very good again on defense ... we have to replace most of our LBs but have some good ones coming back and coming in, and are loaded everywhere else, especially the secondary.

Do state laws/guidelines determine when a college/university can start spring practices? I know the NCAA sets limits on how many and how long. I think high schools are regulated by state laws here as to when they can start.

By the way SFA fans... that field is nice!

Nope, even in North Dakota the state keeps out of dictating when schools have spring practice... so far.

Individual schools determine when to start with a little coaching from Mother Nature.

For those of you who go to your spring practice or scrimmages or get the inside word on how they are going, is your offense dominating or does your defense have the upperhand?

Offense appears to be way ahead of our defense but half the defense coach recruited isn't here yet and the C.C. transfers are learning the system.
Next saturday is the final scrimmage!

Insider report: The runningbacks keep tripping over their own feet. Our Qb's can't hit the side of a barn with passes. And when one of WR's runs a correct route and the QB gets the ball miraculously close to him, he drops the ball. If one of the RB's keeps his feet passed the line of scrimmage, the defense just waves their arms at him as he goes by. The DB's are so slow they can't keep up with the WR's but luckily the Qb's can't hit the passes.

In other words, situation normal for McNeese spring practice.

A lot of the injured players from last season are back, at least, temporarily.

Wasn't able to attend our scrimmage this past Saturday but heard good things about the running game, especially our two young RBs, Eugene Bethea and Juice Maracalin. Both had 60+ yard runs with Bethea's being described as SportsCenter Top 10 caliber. Good to have two physical, power backs, in the 215 to 230 range, with speed. Both QBs reportedly threw the ball well.

Spring game is this Saturday at 1:00 pm.

How are you guys liking the new head coach???

Well with fans he's very personable. The players have told me he's tough and demands non-stop work ethics from them. He apparently is HUGE on graduation too. I guess that's what he learned coming from that comm. college in Mississippi. He's one heck of a recruiter too. He doesn't look for the gem in the rough but rather goes after those FBS kids and those jucos which is something UCA fans aren't used to seeing on the field. He is a big line guy who loves size on both lines. As a fan I have seen our game speed up and get bigger. But I guess the same could be said for many of the SLC teams this year too. He still has some of Clank clonk players so when he is able to establish his type of team we will know more. Until then we'll enjoy the mix of two very successful coaching styles and players. We're impressed but not sure on what we can expect to see so you're going through it as much as we are! xthumbsupx

SIU Salukis: Red Shirt dual threat QB Matt DeSomer of Andrean High in NW Indiana (State champs in 2014) getting big look--really is an explosive runner and good arm too. SIU down to three QB's (probable starter Mark Iannotti, RS Frosh Sam Straub and DeSomer). If any one on the board remembers a Dual threat QB SIU had a few years ago named McIntosh (transfer from Navy), DeSomer reminds me of him.

“I really like where this team is going right now,” Keeler said. “ The attitude and the work ethic is great.”

Orange/White Spring game tomorrow at 7pm.

McNeese finally had a scrimmage that I could attend. And it didn't rain. Next Saturday is the Spring Game (scrimmage?).

Here a few photos.

Our O looks insane, D will need a little work. Both backup QBs are solid and would be starters on a lot of FCS teams.

McNeese spring practice is over with the Spring Game this past Saturday. Short version, the defense dominated like it did back in the late 90's and early 2000's. Either our defense is going to be very very good or our offense is going to suck. That is all.

RFr QB #12 Easton Stick....remember that name AGS. Also, watch for RFr RB #33 Lance Dunn to maybe earn the #1 RB job (though, will split carries more like NDSU has done in the past). Pulled Dunn right out of Waterloo, IA. :D

I can imagine your defense and our offense on the same team. I bet that SLC all conference team will be stout this year. I wonder what deserving player will get left off. xeyebrowx

Agreed although I think Stick could still use some more polish as a passer. As a running QB, he's as dynamic as I've seen at NDSU since the veer option days. Agree completely on Lance Dunn, hopefully he stays healthy because he's got the ability to be a real special player.
