Heard some interesting info this morning about Jim Harbaugh being offered to coach at North Texas. Will try to find the print story on this..

No way. They have good facilities, GREAT state to recruit in, and an easy conference to play in. Someone can easily win at UNT build that program into a consistent 8+ wins a year team. If someone was to win at UNT they would have lots of opportunities to move up to a big time BCS school.

There is no way in hell Harbaugh would take that job. North Texas is in the worst conference in I-A and is the at best the 5th best program in the state. If a big time offer doesnt come after this season I see him staying one more year and leave after Johnson's seniors year.

Among the head coaching alumni at North Texas are Hayden Fry and Appalachian State's very own Jerry Moore. It has been a good stepping stone for some. Fry went from North Texas to Iowa. Moore went from North Texas to Texas Tech.

Seems like Harbaugh was talking to people about the Buffalo job last year. If he was interesting in Buffalo, one of the absolute dregs of I-A, then North Texas would be a hundred times better.

Harbaugh will not be going to UNT or another school like that - trust me. Take a read from today's Union-Tribune....

UNT would be an alright position for Harbaugh. No chance he ends up somewhere like Michigan State or Virginia.

Hayden Fry?! What, 30 years ago? I'm assuming Moore also was at UNT when they were I-AA? I'm just not sure Darrell Dickey is going to be too hot a commodity this off-season. I could be very wrong.

When Harbaugh took the USD job how would you rank the PFL in IAA or USD among the 4 Cali IAA's? You gotta start somewhere, right?

That said San Diego is a much nicer place than Denton and I doubt Harbaugh gives UNT more than a passing thought.

I think it depends more on the money and how much the school is willing to invest into the program to compete with the other 1-A's in the state. If they give Harbaugh and his agent the right deal and incentives he will be out of USD. He went to that program to build it up. Say next year USD does get a decently tough schedule and goes 8 and 3. The coaching offers might not be the same. Strike while the iron is hot.

that's hilarious.

By hilarious do you mean Harbaugh coaching a I-A team? Get ready to laugh because if not next year, he will be in 2008. Personally, I will be crying because the guy can flat out coach, and USD will miss him. You may not like the guy personally, but from a football coaching perspective he is great. Just my opinion...

Is 30 years ago too long to mention? Hayden Fry left North Texas for Iowa after the 1978 season. Moore, then the offensive coordinator at Nebraska and a longtime assistant for Fry before coaching for Tom Osborne, was fry's replacement. At the time that Fry and Moore were there, North Texas was trying to work its way into the Southwest Conference. They were very much I-A.

I don't think you can call Iowa a step down from UNT...Iowa was just in a down swing. Any time you go to a University OF school you are doing something right. Especially in a state like Iowa. I guarantee his salary went up when he took the Iowa job.

Those would be University OF's.:twocents:

And I'll keep that in mind next time the University of Delaware is looking for a coach. Frank Beamer, Pete Carroll, Tuberville... all would jump at the chance to coach at the U OF D. :p
