This has been talked about plenty on other sites. Here's two quotes:
GSU-NSU meeting possible in 2006? (http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050410/SPORTS02/504100322/1001/SPORTS)
"We've had a number of conversations with (Northwestern State head coach Scott Stoker) about us playing them and then Southern playing McNeese -- one in the evening, one in the afternoon," [Grambling Coach] Spears said."
-----------
The format could either be home-and-home or as a regular game in Shreveport's Independence Stadium. GSU athletics director Willie Jeffries said he favors the latter. "I think we would make a lot more in Shreveport than we might have made at home," said Jeffries, who knows Northwestern AD Greg Burke from their service on the NCAA rules committee. "If we played every year in Shreveport, we could also try to draw in more corporate and business sponsors."
Any thoughts?

Well if you're going to make it a classic, why not play it in the superdome? They should be able to get 50K+ for these two games.

Do we really think Southern and McNeese would give up that home game every other year with the other (if they continue their contract) as it is very profitable? Or do you think they'll throw some dice and hope this Shreveport thing becomes pretty successful itself?

Get some sponsors and market it as the Louisiana Classic or something. It has huge potential.

I agree, Ralph...... As close as NW State and Grambling are to Shreveport and the way McNeese and Southern travel, this would be a great combination.
The tailgating parties alone would be worth the ticket!
PAllen New Orleans is very very expensive, and there is no place to tailgate. S'port has the fairgrounds right outside of the stadium, so you could posibly see some of the best tailgating ever. (oh god I can see it now a bunch of blue & gold, purple & orange, and black & gold clad fans all out line dancing at the fairgrounds :nonono2: )

Since there's French roots in Louisiana they could call it
LA CLASSIQUE

The only school close to New Orleans is southern, while shreveport is closer for Nwst and Grambling, both of which will need to be closer to bring extra road fans.. Southern and Mcneese would bring their usual contingent..
It would be an easier trip for Mcneese fans from Lake Charles if we had a straight shot to shreveport that was 4 laned, so that can be a pain in some areas along the way..
I'd like to see this happen as part of a day / night doubleheader and hopefully we can get some Louisiana based sponsors like Tabasco or Citgo, etc. and get fox southwest or cstv to pick it up in full.

Does anyone know of any similar doubleheaders that are done nowadays? Or any that have been done in the past?
My concerns are about field conditions. Does Shreveport have a solid field that can hold up? Turf? And how would you spread the games out? One in the early afternoon and one in prime time?
The field in S'port is astroplay, the biggest worry IMO is how hot is in going to be at that afternoon game this is still Louisiana, in late Aug or early Sept. HOT HOT HOT

They could push it back some. I know all too well about that heat down here, being from Texxas.
Does it have to be in early September? It could be at the beginning of October, as long as it does not conflict with any of the other "Classics".
