The math instructor admitted that during the spring 2013 semester five student-athletes gave her their usernames and passwords. She then used that information to log in to their online math courses to complete tests, quizzes and exams. At the conclusion of the semester, adjunct instructor in one of the math classes noticed a student-athlete completed six quizzes and a final exam in less than one hour – an uncharacteristic pattern for that student. That concern led to a full review of the developmental math program, and the discovery that the instructor provided assistance to other student-athletes. Weber State charged the five student-athletes with academic dishonesty and issued them failing grades for the course.

Penalties and corrective measures include:

Public reprimand and censure.
Three years of probation from November 19, 2014 through November 18, 2017.

A fine of $5,000 plus two percent of the school’s football program operating budget.
A reduction of 9 football equivalency scholarships.
A five-year show-cause order for the math instructor. During that period, if the instructor works for a member school and has responsibilities in its athletics department, the school must appear before a committee panel. The public report contains additional details

Does probation affect playoff eligibility if they manage to earn a spot even with the sanctions?

No, it does not. Probation mainly means future violations will be looked at more closely. It does not mean a future violation will cause a serious problem. The NCAA expects a certain amount of violations per year, so it would be more of a red flag if Weber did not report future violations while on probation, but rather than the normal rubber stamp on those regular violations they will be looked at closely to see if a pattern develops or "similar" violations seem to be repeated.

Also the department will have regularly scheduled briefings with the NCAA which just serves to stress the staff.

No ive had local football players on probation every time they have gone to the playoffs.

See its funny because I'm a probation officer.

Not surprised by this. It was clear all season that the Weber State players were bad at math.
They didn't seem to understand that a higher number on the scoreboard was better than a lower number.

So essentially, wherever Pflugrad goes, NCAA penalties are soon to follow.

The instructor then proceeded to ask the student-athlete that given the six quizzes and one exam that were completed in one hour, what was the average amount of time spent on each test. And the student-athlete could not figure out the answer.

FYI, Pflugrad is not there anymore. He is doing a weekly column for Washington State, which says he is living in Phoenix now.

He was with Weber State in the spring of 2013, though.

True. But he was with Portland State in the eighties and the Vikings have never lost scholarships. Of course, he probably never figured out how to "cheat" until he was with Chip Kelly at Oregon.
