View Full Version : How to get started in I-AA football?

As some of you know, I just started trying to get into I-AA football. The only problem for me is that I can't make most games at the school I will be going to (URI), and I never see any games on TV.

What sort of sports package do I need to buy to see these games? Once in a while the local stations will put on URI games, but it's not often enough that I can really get into it.

Also, I have no idea who is on URI's team, what style of offense/defense they play, or what their opponents on a given week are like. Is there some sort of site that really keeps track of individual teams or conferences that I can use to keep myself at least slightly informed?

I apologize if this has been asked before.

Welcome to I-AA and AGS Marchawg. :hurray:

Unfortunately, it's pretty unusual to see I-AA games on TV as the big networks give preference to I-A ball. :(

The best way to follow your chosen team on gameday is the live audio, either over a radio or streaming over the web.

I hope you're talking about Rhode Island :D ..here are some links to get you started.

The best thing to do is go with Dish or Direct TV and order the FSN or multi-sport package. The regional FSN channels will have I-AA games prety regularly and also you will get CSTV. There is usually a I-AA game each week on CSTV. I did this middle of last year and have watched parts of about 25 games I never would have seen before. I feel better about my ballot for Payton and Buchannan than I ever did before.

If you reside in an area service by Comcast, pick up the digital cable package and then get a sports pack add on. The sports package is fairly cheap.

I'd recommend going down to Kingston to take in the Rams games. Meade's not a bad facility now that it's been renovated. And Brown's a close drive also.

You can usually see 2 I-AA games online at CN8 every Saturday. They're always North Easterrn teams from the A-10, Patriot, Ivy, and NEC.

Yeah, I have Direct TV. Wasn't really sure if it was worth getting the sports package, though, as I really only watch college football and ice hockey. I used to have digital cable from Cox and they would play URI or Brown games on Saturday's, but I haven't had that in a couple years now.

I plan on going to a couple games, but I still live 45 miles north, so it's not really feasible to go there every home game.

Thanks for all the responses!

... I plan on going to a couple games, but I still live 45 miles north, so it's not really feasible to go there every home game...Yeah, 45 miles is quite a trek... my nearest I-AA destination is hours away!

Hey, check out the photo gallery of the URI @ Hofstra game from last week and check out your Rams!

CSTV has a package for $100/yr where you can watch/listen to any teams in their group. I know UNI and Southern Illinois are in there, as are other I-AA teams.

FSN/FCS has tons of I-AA games and they tend to replay them quite a bit throughout the week.

Marchawg...

I would like to Welcome you also!

I really cannot add to what has been suggested to you already.

I'm in the South, I had Comcast Digital....the Sports selection was poor (at best). When I was in NJ...Comcast regionally showed more of the teams I wanted to see (mostly A-10 games!).

Now I have DirecTV...I'm very happy with it. I was able to watch the URI vs. UMASS game.

Take care...Chat w/you later!
