Welcome Penguins to the 101st Hobo Day game. South Dakotans enjoy hunting birds this time of year. xsmiley_wix Jacks are 59-36-5 on Hobo Day. Rabbits have a 10-5 record vs 'Guins, and have yet to lose to YSU since joining the MVFC. The good news for the 'Guins is this is the last trip that you'll make to Coughlin-Alumni Stadium and the natural grass (last one in the MVFC) field.

IMHO- SDSU D will shine again vs YSU. If Lujan can keep the wounded Ducks from falling into Penguin hands, Jacks should win pretty well. I'd guess that betting line come Sat. 10/25 will be near 10 for the Jacks.

Heard that from most of you last week and we proved you wrong.

With that being said, SDSU has physically dominated us the past 2 meetings. Last years meeting may go down as one of the worst losses in the history of YSU it was that embarrassing. YSU will be practicing on grass this week to hopefully get them acclimated to that playing surface. It isn't a huge factor, but coming from someone who played on turf in HS, the weather can cause issues to grass, which can cause issues to your plan of attack.

SDSU is definitely the favorite in this one. It will all come down to whether YSU can shut down Zenner. They could not last year, but with a new DC and five days to prepare, can he put the defense in a situation to win this game? Time will tell.

Zenner only had 80 yds vs UNI last week. Need to stop the aerial attack to the best pair of 6-4+ WR in the MVFC right now. Lujan has passed well, but made some horrible throws which were intercepted. The key for YSU will be to keep the ball out of the Jacks hands. If Jacks win TOP like last week, and stay even or better on TO's, 'Guins will have a tough time in Brookings. At least it's sounding like it'll be a decent weather weekend rather than a snowstorm.

Expect YSU to look to control the time of possession, which they have done quite well throughout this season. Wells is very good at pitching the ball around, which seemed to cause SIU ago emphasize a bit more on stopping the pass last week. In turn, Ruiz and Webb lit up the Saluki defense.

People come from everywhere for just the parade: Watertown, Madison, Aberdeen, Sioux Falls, Minnesota and every small town with a band in it. Then kids come from all the nearby colleges as well, Mankato, St Cloud, Augie, USF even USD and just party. And then there is the game of course. It's been estimated in that range,it's a huge event. I know it's a tough pill to swallow for the Great White North. It's kind of sad SDSU will never play NDSU on Hobo Day, but it's all about the Benjamins......

TOP will be an important element of the game. Both the Jacks and 'Guins have done much better when they're in the + in TOP. Jacks have been doing well with both lines, especially in close games or Rabbit controlled games. Keep the TO points to the 'Guins to a low amount, and especially early, I like the Jacks abilities to control in the trenches, and therefore, the TOP.

I think SDSU wins for the following reasons:

They have a better coach
They are at home on Hobo Day
They come up big in big games.
They shot themselves in the foot against UNI with turnoversome but the coach made that a point of emphasis so they probably 4 this week.
SDSU runs a nice short slant passing game and YSU has been inept at defending this type of game in the past.

I think YSU has a chance because they have a decent team but they have come up short in big games under Wolford.
YSU has made mistakes on special teams multiple weeks inow a row. Nothing says they won't do it again this week.
Can't make mistakes against the best teams or you will lose.

BTW I would normally say that the freshman qb is a liability but this one is going to be special one day and he is exceptionally cool in the pocket with defenders collapsing it on him. He plays as if he was an experienced senior. And he was a coaches kid and has an exceptional understanding of the game.
