Who are your team's freshmen that we should keep an eye on down the road?

From SHSU...we have three freshmen that have stood out this season, all recruited by our current coaching staff at that...

OG Hunter Schmidt has been a vital part of the offensive line that has produced DD Terry's record rushing performance and for a better part of the season, protected Brett Hicks...

MLB Luke McCall has 4 TFLs this year and 43 tackles total. Led the Kats with 10 tackles against SFA. Also has a FF to his name.

DS Justin Humphrey. Have you heard his name called this year? I sure haven't. He's doing his job snapping...

RFR WR/converted QB RJ Archer-Has moved into the ranks as a starting WR. 2nd on the team with 22 catches and 366 yards. Yesterday he caught 6 passes for 122 yards. Last week he made this incredible catch, behind him straight to the DB, that I have no idea how he caught. The week before he drew 2 big pass interference calls. Even when he doesn't have the stats he is helping.

RFR DL Adrian Tracy-Has 6 sacks on the season and 3 of them were yesterday. He leads the team in sacks. 2nd on the team in tackles with 59. Also leads the team in TFL with 15, 4 coming yesterday. Has forced 2 fumbles on the year.

This kid is red shirting this year but I think he'll be another good QB for us when he gets his chance to prove himself.

RS FR:

DT Justin Brown - starting DT, only 5'10, 280 but he might be the most disruptive player on our DL this year
RB Stephone LaFance - backup RB, very hard runner, slowed by ankle injury recently
QB Jordan Sorrells - backup QB, has played well when called on this year
WR RJ Webb - converted high school QB, tall WR w/ decent speed and good open field moves, might be our one legit deep threat this year

True FR:

CB Julian Hicks - made travelling team as a FR, good special teams player, will see some time in certain defensive packages
WR Adam Mims - short, but very fast WR; made travelling squad and was seeing some time on offense before breaking his leg during the UNC game

Also Zack Mitchel an O-lineman who has no business being at CSU. We only got him because he wanted to play with his older brother, Josh, who Is a LB for the Bucs. Playing on the line as a true freshman the kid is sick man, I can’t imagine what he will be like in a couple years.

Zach Mitchell - #63
Pos.: OL Ht.: 6-3 Wt.: 305
Hometown: Jacksonville, Fla.
High School: Named first-team at OG in the Gateway Conference … named All-District and All-First Coast … ranked in the Florida Times-Union Super 24... Personal: Brother of current CSU linebacker Josh Mitchell … born Sept. 9, 1987 to Jim and Joanie Mitchell ... planning to major in exercise science.

#22 Terrione Benefield
He could be the heir apparent to John Mohring. Extremely fast OLB has 34 tackles, 5.5 Tackles for Loss, 3 Ints., and 1 sack
He doesn't have Mohring's field presence yet and needs to bulk up a little, but he's going to be a monster.

RB Alvin Canady (RSFR) 41 Carries 211yds 1 TD and 13 Rec for 231 yds 2 TDs Very capable starter or backup behind Stan Zwinggi
DE Travis Houston (FR) Needs to get into the weight room in the spring to bulk up
DT Orlando Toldston (FR)one of the strongest players on the team....needs a spring under his belt to get better

UC Davis Aggies have a new QB Greg Denham out of Auburn, CA. Highly touted out of high school by a number of Pac 10 schools, has a great arm, good mobility, yet chose UC Davis. http://ucdavisaggies.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/denham_greg00.html
Also add, RB P.J. Vallier.

Make that

Edwards - Starting QB
Tharrington - Starting RE
Acitelli - Starting LT
Johnson - 5th WR (remember we run 5 wide a lot)
Moore - 2nd tailback on depth chart

Also remember the name Coco Hilary for next year

I guess that NC helped with recruiting:smiley_wi .

Other freshmen either starting or playing alot for the Tribe include DTs CJ Herbert and Sean Lissemore, CB/KR David Caldwell, CB Max Harris, S Sheldon Alexander and FB Raphael Bynum.

Below is Tracy.

Since there aren't too many skill position players starting that are true freshman this year, I'd have to say to watch out for Rodney Landers when he gets the nod after Rascati's graduation. He has proven himself an excellent athelete (rushing for an average of 9.8 ypc and playing at WR, RB, and QB) and as a senior has the leadership needed to be a great QB.

With these two and Spraugh to throw to next year, it should be a good show.

Two OLiners are Freshmen and on defense Scotty McGee is a quality starting corner that's a good kick returner too, but I think that Rockheed is going to be a big play guy next year!

Furmn has many freshmen that appear to be posied for big things in the future. Wolfpacker hit the highlights but the unsung guys could play even bigger roles in the future.

Tyler Haynes 6-2, 300 OG mean, athletic and strong. 445 bench.
Heath Cockburn 6-2, 290 OG, another physical player. 425 bench
Larry Hedden 6-5, 250 TE, converted wide receiver. Great hands, excellent size for Sorrells to work with
Phillip Morris 6-1, 235 LB, Strong, Physical, Smart player. Shrine Bowler.

Names to look out for next year:
Mike Brown Redshirt TB, 5-8, 190 Challenged for the 2nd spot at tailback before getting injured in the pre-season. Low to the ground and fast, runs with power between the tackles. He will make noise in 07.
Channing Welch Redshirt DE, 6-3, 240 Made a case to not redshirt but the smart move was to keep it. Fast mobile kid, star basketball player that played every position in high school.

Scotty just better learn to look back at the ball every game he gets at least one pass interference call on him :bang: :bang:

Sean Price, RB may also be a real stud for us in a couple of years, backing up Holloman next year.

we dont rebuild, we just reload :smiley_wi

Well from ASU, it is obviously our QB Armanti Edwards
Edwards has been receiving a lot of attention because he is the QB (and he may have played his best game on Saturday — not numbers-wise, but quality of play-wise), but there are a lot of other significant freshman on this team. Redshirt freshman Gary Tharrington has been ASU's top freshman performer. He has a chance to be another great ASU DE. Anthony Williams, the DT, has also been coming on strong. Mario Acitelli has come on very strong in the past two or three games at left tackle. Cortez Gilbert has all the tools to be another Jeremy Wiggins in the secondary. Redshirt freshman MLB Jacque Roman came in when Cam Speer got banged up on Saturday and had a brilliant second half. He probably has more talent than any ASU LB right now. Redshirt freshman Dominique Wilson started at TE on Saturday and caught a TD pass. He may be the guy to replace Daniel Bettis next season. WR Josh Johnson has also gotten some significant time at WR. And don't forget about Coco Hillary, who lost out to Edwards in a preseason QB battle. He will emerge somewhere. This is a team that is loaded with good freshmen, who are alreayd contributing. It says a lot when that many youngsters come in and getting playing time on the defending national championship team.

I've been impressed with your young players on the OL and don't forget redshirt freshman Jordan Sorrells at QB. He's going to be a good one. Webb has the chance to be as good as Brian Bratton and Issac West at WR.

Aaron Mason
Freshman from Imperial Beach, CA
Position: RB Number: 25
Height: 5-10 Weight: 181

Replaced injured starter Evin Groves, had his first collegiate start a few weeks later @ NAU, ran for 192 yards on 24 carries with 2 TDS. Followed that up with a 128 yard effort against PSU, on 34 carries and 1 TD. Playing time diminished after that - word is he was just worn down, the kid turned 18 about a month ago.

So far:
115 attempts 529 yards 4.6 YPC 6 TDs, but Groves is back so his playing time will diminish even more. Not sure who will be the star going into next season.
