WELCOME TO THE 2014 MVFC PICK EM CONTEST PRESENTED BY A COUPLE OF US KNUCKLEHEAD MVFC POSTERS!

This is very very similar to my top 25 pick em but MVFC related only. No other FCS games, no FBS games, no nothing.

Rules are:

1. The official deadline for each weeks picks are:

Week 2 Picks: Saturday, September 6 11:00 AM Central Winning Time
Week 3 Picks: Saturday, September 13 11:00 AM Central Winning Time
Week 4 Picks: Saturday, September 20 11:00 AM Central Winning Time
Week 5 Picks: Saturday, September 27 11:00 AM Central Winning Time
Week 6 Picks: Saturday, October 4 11:00 AM Central Winning Time
Week 7 Picks: Saturday, October 11 11:00 AM Central Winning Time
Week 8 Picks: Saturday, October 18 11:00 AM Central Winning Time
Week 9 Picks: Saturday, October 25 11:00 AM Central Winning Time

If a game takes place on a Weeknight and you want your pick for that game to count your picks need to be in by kick off time of that game. You may still change your picks for the Saturday games until the 11:00 AM Central Winning Time cut-off. If you miss the cut off for the mid-week game you may still submit picks for the Saturday games, however, your pick for any mid-week games you missed will be counted as "wrong".
The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds take place over 2 days. For those rounds it will be treated like having a mid-week games. For your Friday picks to count they need to be submitted by kick-off of the FIRST game of the day. You may still submit for Saturday games if you missed the cutoff for the Friday games, however, your Friday picks will be counted as "wrong". Times for those games are TBD by the NCAA and thus the rule will be by kick-off of the first game, whatever Central Winning Time that may be.
The game will run until all teams are eliminated from the playoffs.


2. Scoring will be:

Regular season picks: each correct pick is worth 1
Post season games: Each Pick worth 1 with 5 confidence points available
Preseason: I'm still working this out with how I want to do it. I'll let you know ASAP


3. Prize(s) will be figured out as the season goes on

4. You don't have to be an MVFC poster to play. All are welcome.

5. Really, that's about it. This is more laid back than the top 25 contest.

I did a long break down of every team in another thread. I have 4 teams with at least 9 wins and 2 with at least 10.

If a game takes place on a Weeknight and you want your pick for that game to count your picks need to be in by kick off time of that game. You may still change your picks for the Saturday games until the 11:00 AM Central Winning Time cut-off. If you miss the cut off for the mid-week game you may still submit picks for the Saturday games, however, your pick for any mid-week games you missed will be counted as "wrong".
The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds take place over 2 days. For those rounds it will be treated like having a mid-week games. For your Friday picks to count they need to be submitted by kick-off of the FIRST game of the day. You may still submit for Saturday games if you missed the cutoff for the Friday games, however, your Friday picks will be counted as "wrong". Times for those games are TBD by the NCAA and thus the rule will be by kick-off of the first game, whatever Central Winning Time that may be.
The game will run until all teams are eliminated from the playoffs.


2. Scoring will be:

Regular season picks: each correct pick is worth 1
Post season games: Each Pick worth 1 with 5 confidence points available
Preseason: I'm still working this out with how I want to do it. I'll let you know ASAP


3. Prize(s) will be figured out as the season goes on

4. You don't have to be an MVFC poster to play. All are welcome.

5. Really, that's about it. This is more laid back than the top 25 contest.

the conference technically only uses the tiebreaks to determine the auto-bid, but I suppose they can also be used for other placement too. Results against common opponents could come into play if there was a 3-way (or more) tie

I was attempting to run numbers on the preseason poll but turns out people can figure out who they've voted for and who they haven't already

43 submissions, so each team should have 43 total votes...

I have teams with 46, 41, 39, and 49 votes


Due to people not being able to figure out what the hell they are doing the preseason poll is scrapped from scoring. Should it come down to a tie break situation I will implement a very strategic randomly draw a name out of a hat to determine the tie break in a 2 person tie.

More than a two person tie and I'll have to get creative. We'll see how the season goes.

The Indiana State/TTU game is interesting to me.

In the AGS Top 25 game it's a 50/50 split but here it's overwhelmingly TTU.

I've never had a rule against missing weeks before, but I'm putting one in.

The AGS poll allows you to miss 2, I think, week before your done. Well, my games you're going to get three misses.

1 miss (or --- in the score column) gets you 1 * by your name and your name highlighted in a pale yellow.
second miss gets another * and a deeper yellow
third miss and your name goes red and I don't even look at your picks anymore.

I really do apologize for the massive cluster ****ery last week.

I started having some pretty spotty internet issues Sept 29th and lost it for good on Sept 31st. I fought with Mediacom (those of you that have them can sympathize with me on this one) for hours...I literally mean 12 hours on the phone with them between Sept 29th and Oct 7th with about 52 different people, 4 different "supervisors", multiple uses of language that Mediacom didn't find "appropriate or needed", etc.... Oh, I lost cable as well (also Mediacom Oct 3rd). I finally got both back real late on Thursday 10/9. IBleedYellow and Citdog both talked with me on the phone during that time frame and can attest to the fact that I was not in a good place with them. If you can find my twitter there are still some leftover tweets I sent to mediacom on my timeline from 10/4...I deleted most of them, but I left some I really enjoyed.

Oh, to top it off there was an issue with what people were using the internet for at work, if you catch my drift, and access to the outside world was cut off except for work related sites. I found a loophole to use CS, but it didn't work here.

Long story short, the weekend of Oct 3-5 was not a good time to be around me at all.

I've said many times that he is a great back that can manage to survive the absolute raping of his legs that Stig and crew put on him.

I've said that he puts up great numbers against the poor teams on the schedule (and 1 real good game against Nebraska) but really struggles with the likes of UNI, SIU, NDSU....and he does.

I've said I think DJ is the better back (and posted conference stats proving DJ has a better YPC the last 2 years in conference play. Sadly DJ isn't properly used by UNI.

I said there was no reason for him to play 3 quarters against a D3 school, especially when SDSU was up 21 in the first half of the first quarter, other than piling up yards to help boost his Payton campaign - I'm still not convinced that isn't the reason he got 23 carries against that D3.


Nothing I've said about Zenner has been false...nothing. I am sorry that SDSU folks don't like Zenner's jock not being sniffed 24/7, but that isn't going to change my opinion.

Certainly this is debatable, DJ does appear to not have the durability ZZ has. Better athlete no doubt, but would he last with 25-30, or more, carries every week? I'm not so sure...

Maybe so but that is a separate issue. My observation is that it seems that DJ carries the ball less than ZZ but is hurt more.

UNI @ WIU: both teams need a win. WIU has played teams tough but hasn't produced wins. UNI in a very close one.

YSU @ SDSU: GOTW in the Valley. Huge for both teams esp SDSU with their non-counter game. SDSU has had YSU's number and I believe they will win this at home.

NDSU @ USD: Bison need to take care of business against a USD team looking for an upset. NDSU wins 34-9

MSU @ Ill State: Can MSU win in Normal? They have in the past but can they do it today? Redbirds win at home

Ind State @ SIU: Another game that both teams need a win in. I'll take SIU at home.

How the playoff scoring works...

It will work just like the AGS top 25 game with a small twist.

Each game will be worth 1 (rather than variable depending on the round/games played).

You will get 1 point, plus your confidence points for every game correct.

Different than the Top 25 game you will lose points if you are incorrect for both confidence points and the game.

This means there are 6 points possible to be gained or lost with each game.

The confidence score determines how many bonus points you get...AND HOW MANY YOU CAN LOSE IF WRONG. Confidence scoring is as follows:
0: no bonus points earned or lost
1: 1 bonus point earned or lost
2: 2 bonus point earned or lost
3: 3 bonus points earned or lost
4: 4 bonus points earned or lost
5: 5 bonus points earned or lost

Only 14 submissions last week....11 of the 25 players left didn't submit picks and that got 3 of them DQ

I have 4 more that are 1 miss away from being DQed, and I have a feeling all 4 are likely going to fall after this week based on their trends.

That would leave us with 19 players.

Of those 19

4 missed the first round of playoffs and I would expect that maybe...maybe...2 of them come back....maybe.

When it's all said and done (depending how far MVFC teams go) we could see less than 10 players the final week of the MVFC season...we started wtih 43
