i don' t really have a feel for rivalries in the SlC. Help me out a bit.

What are the biggest traditional rivalries in the SlC?

Do you see your school becoming a rival with any of the three new schools? Or do the newcomers need to prove themselves before they are 'rival worthy?"

THE BATTLE OF THE PINEY WOODS
Stephen F. Austin State vs. Sam Houston State

Since 1923 (89th meeting this Nov.) 2nd longest in the FCS
Reliant Stadium in Houston since 2010 (26,000 plus fans)

CHIEF CADDO
Stephen F. Austin State vs. Northwestern State (Since 1924)

Did have one with Texas State since 1923, but they of course left.

Since ACU has a series lead over SFA 6-8-0 and won the last meeting in 1999 (51-34) you've got some serious butt kicking coming your way, or at least in basketball :)

If I were to guess, I would say Delaware's biggest rival in the expanded SLC will be Sam Houston State. ;)

Northwestern has, traditionally, been our biggest rival...

Nicholls has been the biggest thorn in our side...

SELA is gaining ground on both, however...

Our Rivals Are the Louisiana schools

Mcneese- a victory over them means you had a great year

Northwestern- Has our old Coach(good luck with that)

SELA- Only SLC team We have a winning record agindt

Nicholls State has always been our biggest rival, mainly due to geography, though McNeese has developed into one over the years, especially as of late. Northwestern State would be third on the list. UNO will likely heat up in baseball and basketball once they get reestablished.

Sam Houston I suppose.

SFA vs SHS may not be the 2nd longest rivalry in FCS. SDSU has played USD 106 times, and has played NDSU 101 times. SDSU played USD in 1889, but both series became regular in about 1903-5 area. The two have not played every year and in fact the SDSU-USD series took a five or so year break recently when SDSU moved to FCS before USD made the move. The SFA SHS series if continuous, might be longer, so it depends on how you define it.

As of 2003 NDSU and UND had played 110 times in football.. though not continuous (as we have had a 10 year break so far)

SHSU's top rivalry is clearly with Stephen F. Austin. There's not even a close second now that the folks in San Marcos have left the league.

I would like to see rivalries develop more with Lamar and Houston Baptist based strictly on geographic location, but considering football carries most of the weight, we'll have to see those programs develop some more. I'll be going to a HBU game or few this year - nice folks there - and look forward to seeing the Huskies build things out. Very curious to see how different programs travel to HBU this year and in the coming years since there's such significant SLC presence (alumni speaking) in Houston area.

Perhaps the 2nd longest... continuous rivalry? Haven't our teams met annually for XYZ amount of years? Then again, Texas may be right - figure Yale-Harvard, Lehigh-Lafayette are much longer as are some of the other Ivy/Patriot rivalries.

Well it's pretty much 90% of the US

Personally, I'm not looking forward to HBU games. Those prudes wont even allow beer at their lame ass tailgates. They're lucky General Sam Houston isn't still alive. He'd run those puritans straight out of this great state.

Saturdays in the Fall are made for alcohol and football.

So, 89th meeting since 1923, second-longest active rivalry in the state of Texas.

Pretty much, everybody and their dog are moving here.

I don't know how that's true.

According to wiki, there were no games between 1942-1945.

Sam is 50-36-2 against SFA, that's 88 meetings, and the 89th is this year.

Did play each other two times in 1976 (SFA 2014 Media Guide)

The fact that the rivalry game was not played from 1942-1945 is because SFA and probably SHSU didn't field teams. (Didn't look up every year for SHSU, but I expect I would find the same thing. SHSU didn't field a team for the years I did look up.) My understanding is that very few, if any universities/colleges fielded teams then because of WWII.

So one could probably make a good case for a mulligan.

At ACU we are doing our best to deny our "inner purpleness." Unless black is the new purple.

Which school besides McNeese do you have as blue? Who are the yellow teams? I would say that Southeastern is green.
Regardless, there was already too much purple and now even more. xsmhx

Something that New Orleans hopes to change in the near future.

They got the stadium for it, now just need the funds.

McNeese is BLUE and gold, not gold and blue. Geaux BLUE! Our home jerseys are BLUE. I would also say that HBU's primary color is a blue just like McNeese. It's your opinion if you think we are not blue, but then please call us Gold and not yellow.xthumbsdownx
