NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns first two games of the 2014 football campaign are part of a 13-game slate that will be shown on ESPN3 during the first three weeks of the season, the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN announced on Tuesday.

The Ragin' Cajuns season-opener against Southern on Aug. 30 and their Sept. 6 encounter with Louisiana Tech were part of the early schedule released by the conference office. Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT.

The addition of the first two games of the season to the television schedule increased the Ragin' Cajuns total to six. Games at Ole Miss (Sept. 13, SEC Network), Boise State (Sept. 20, CBS Sports), Texas State (Oct. 14, ESPN2) and Arkansas State (Oct. 21, ESPN2).

I'm not a Southern fan, by any stretch of the imagination. You guys know that, right?

However, on August 30th, there won't be ANYBODY screaming for a Southern win more loudly than me.

I ****ing hate USL. I hope y'all beat the dog snot out of them. And I hope you kick 'em while they're laying on the ground crying...

Their correct name is the University of Louisiana.

Actually you are incorrect. Their real and legal name is University of Louisiana at Lafayette. There is another University of Louisiana and it is called University of Louisiana at Monroe.

ULL has dreams of being a big name school and they think if they call themselves University of Louisiana or just Louisiana it will make them sound better than they are!

You think you are going to compete with a FBS team with a record of 9-4 last year and bowl win? Your team was rated 223 in sagarin and ULL 81 . You were a 30 point underdog last year, no way this game is even close. This is a nice way to get some attention on ESPN 3. I will give you that.

1) We didn't play them last year (so that's another lie)

2)They are a lower level FBS

3) 2009 SU 19 ULL 42

4) I didn't say we didn't get a guarantee, I stated what I best remembered the agreement to be last time we played.

Yeah and the SunBelt conf attendance record also, I just had that confirmed that It was 10,000 tickets and it came out to be around $240k.

This time the Guarantee price is up between $150k- $175k plus tickets, which will probably be more since they're expanding their stadium to about 41k

The Sun Belt's conference attendance record happened when UL-LF hosted an FCS team.

So what I'm reading is the Sun Belt needs FCS games to put fannies in seats. xlolx

I mean it is the perfect type of OOC game for ULL to start the season. You are getting a school with probably the 2nd or 3rd largest fanbase in the state in a game that is just 1 hour away from Baton Rouge. Both schools know how to tailgate and party, it was a great event. I think the game this year will shatter that record too. ULL now has a winning program and SU is coming off a winning season as well. You boost the game up calling it the clash of the New Orleans Bowl and SWAC champions.

And the University of California, Berkeley is known as California for athletics. If they want to call themselves Louisiana, then I'll call them what they want to be known by. How hard is it that to figure out. Just like we call ourselves Sacramento State, not Cal State Sacramento!

And for all you guys who say it's the law, save it. I bet you every mofo on this page breaks the law every single day in your automobiles. For people to call out the university and their name and citing a law, you're really hypocritical!

They have no more right to that that anyone else it would appear, so should Monroe also be able to use it as just UL? Seems like it might get a bit confusing doesn't it? I really don't know, I'm asking here. Seems like maybe a bit of false puffery here if you ask me. But hey it seems to have worked for Texas State so maybe they can catch it on who knows...

Sometimes things aren't as cut and dry as they seem on paper. The backlash you see here is from people that actually deal with those guys.

Sidebar: Grambling is a VERY heated and hated rivalry in my family. One side is SU and the other is GSU, trust me when it comes to sports there's no love lost. No black and yellow (or gold) is not allowed in mine or my father's home xlolx

I see the low major conferences promoting the crap out of being on ESPN3, but it does not seem to really make it a "televised contest". Didn't I see the Big South is requiring schools to up the ante to an ESPN quality broadcast so their games can be picked up by ESPN3?

It's grey.

The quality of the video and audio is all captured at the same level as a game on ESPN2 or ESPNU. They have an analyst and a color guy along with a technical team in a truck, and the same on screen graphics as a game on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Simply, they decided not to broadcast that feed on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

That means there's only two ways you can consume that feed at home (or at a bar): stream it from the internet (ESPN3) or for some games you can purchase it as a Pay-Per-View (ESPN GameDay) and then you can view it the same as ESPN2 or ESPNU, which is much higher quality than streaming it from the internet. Either way it's the same feed.

"It took until 1995 for the Louisiana State Legislature to agree to allow the change. But, passage of Act 45 required a compromise that has become known as the “LSU Rule.” The LSU Rule required that at least two state universities change their name at the same time. It required that all universities who change their name change it to “University of Louisiana at [city designation].” It stipulated that the city designation must be used in all official university business and has since grown far beyond its original legislative language, to regulate minute details such as font sizes to be used by the respective universities."

UL Lafayette (“LOUISIANA”), similar to UC Berkeley (“CALIFORNIA”), UT Knoxville (“TENNESSEE”), UA Fayetteville (“ARKANSAS”), UNC Chapel Hill ("NORTH CAROLINA"), and UT Austin (“TEXAS”), among others, is the largest and oldest of the schools that share the same name. Fortunately, the legislative law regarding the name change only applies to university and state employees. This state policy does not govern UL alumni, supporters, other universities, and certainly not the autonomy of the press. This leaves the door open for UL Lafayette to be commonly and popularly known as LOUISIANA, while maintaining the official name.

USL is the most vainglorious, pretentious, overreaching, social climbing, collection of wannabees this side of Georgia State.

The mental gymnastics necessary to believe that USL is who they think they are would make a Conrad Escher print look linear.

As an example, the USL brain trust <giggle> put together something they called the pentathlam, or pentaphlegm, or some similarly stupid name which purported to rank schools based on their fans chances of seeing a win.

So, they weighted this thing so that USL's softball team wins counted equally with LSU's football wins. 1500 people in the stands at a girls's softball game is the equivalent of 93,000 fans in Tiger Stadium right?

Anyway, USL either finished first or second in this stupid thing for the first five or six years they published it.
I mean, come on...Seriously? You have to create a selectively weighted metric to display relevance?

Anyway, that's just ONE such example of the total Douchedom of USL fans....

We who live in Louisiana pay taxes. We see where that money goes and how much of a disproportionate share USL gets from the state, relative to the **** they put on the field.

Case in point. USL's played at LSU twenty two times and has NEVER scored a freakin touchdown. During their most recent venture to Tiger Stadium, they managed a fieldgoal in garbage time...So, out of a Six Million dollar state subsidy, they managed three, count 'em, THREE points. That's TWO million a point.

By contrast, McNeese with a Three million state subsidy goes into Tiger Stadium, scores a touchdown in the first quarter, manages 10 points.

300 K per point.

Yet USL wants to be the flagship, academically and athletically, of the ULS system? Deja Moo! I've heard that same old bull**** before..

USL is the same school that one of the 911 Masterminds got his diploma from. And the kicker? He was an honors student who's name was engraved on a paving stone in some sorta USL Walk of Honor, or some **** like that.

They left that memorial up for a few years before finally succumbing to the common sense of the rest of the state and removed it...

Academically, USL ranks lower than many of the schools in the ULS system.

We know exactly who they are, and it's NOT, by a long shot THE University of Louisiana. Hell, their President graduated from the same HS that me, Doc, Geauxpokes and several others here graduated from.

Every system has a flagship or multiple flagships, schools that are quite obviously grander and more important than the rest in the system.

IMHO, there is a big difference. Louisiana has a student population that is twice as large, their football stadium is double the size, a different division and the Cajuns took McNeese off their schedule and have deemed the Cowboys beneath them. I don't think the Cajuns think about or even have McNeese on the radar in terms of football. I'm not keen on either schools, but if I was forced make a choice of watching one of these teams for a full football season, it would be an easy decision. First off, Happy Father's Day. xlolx Yes, Aenias Williams will be inducted in a few months & the great Mel Blount drafted in 1970. Was McNeese not integrated in 1970? xlolx Who exactly is that person in the NFL Hall of Fame from McNeese before and after "integration?" Louisiana has been asking us for years to play them again. We had other options and couldn't get to them before now. Of course they will not travel to McNeese. You have to understand the relationship has changed. Louisiana doesn't see McNeese as someone that they care to be associated with on a regular basis. Until you all are able to man up and do what Georgia Southern and Troy State did and move to the FBS, chances are they will continue to treat McNeese like an ex wife.

Oh trust me. We know EXACTLY why USL can't afford to play us ;)

Getting their ass beaten by an FCS team sorta deflates the narrative they're trying to create as THE University of Louisiana.

Because they can't afford to risk losing to an FCS team, they've decided to schedule Southern ;)

Look it up if you don't believe me. Tom Sestak, DT for Buffalo, is in the AFL Hall of Fame on the All-time AFL team and has been on a number of "All-Time Best" lists....

Now, if I'd tried to pro-actively pass Sestak off as a NFL Hall of Famer, instead of merely answering your question, you might have a point. Beyond that, you, a Southern Grad, understand the difference between misspeaking and lying. You guys practically wrote the book on lies...;)

You've got a very keen grasp of the blatantly obvious....

USL refuses to play Division II schools for the same reason they refuse to play capable FCS squads. They're afraid to lose, like they did the last time they tangled with a Division II...

Can you imagine a reputable FBS losing to a Division II school? Me either...

That's why it's not surprising that USL's fallen to a Div II. Hell, if you look deep enough, you'll see they actually lost to Patterson High School in Morgan City back in the day ;)

I would be surprised if any bowl game outside of the BCS bowls last season had TV viewership more than 15% non-alumni/fans of the two programs playing.

FCS Championship Game would be more like 5% non-alumni/fans max.

You are either trolling really hard or have no clue what you are talking about. xlolx

I see you didn't address my comment. You all are 2-13 against the BIG 10 and have been running from them for over 1/2 of a century. I am not impressed with NDST. You guys have about 15K student and have been running from competing in the FBS. I think NDST is a cowardly program with visionless athletic administrators. As a result of the aforementioned, NDST is comfortable with being on top of a remedial division and not competing consistently against FBS teams that are on their level. A coward dies 1000 lives..........Either you can't read or was too coward to take the BIG 10 issue head on. By the way, congratulations on beating a 1-10 and 3-9 Minnesota ball club to record your two wins (talking about pathetic). xlolx

For someone claiming to be so bright, you sure have a tendency to said a lot of dumb stuff.

Prairie View A&M University was recently informed by the NCAA's Committee on Academic Performance that its football program has been placed on postseason ban for the 2014 NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs for the upcoming season due to low Academic Performance Rate (APR) average over the past four years. The university's APR score of 908 fell two points short of the 910 filter the NCAA has put in place. However, the team is still eligible for the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Football Championship and the annual league championship game as the SWAC opts out the playoffs.
Prairie View A&M student-athletes are graduating 17 percentage points higher than the overall student body. The current student body federal graduation rate is 33 percent while the student-athletes have a rate of 50 percent. "We have higher academic standards than the NCAA minimums and are penalized when reporting to the NCAA," said Prairie View A&M Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson (http://www.pvpanthers.com/staff.aspx?staff=114). "However, we do acknowledge that football eligibility is an issue and we are providing support and an approved APR Plan to improve their academic performance rate."

Oh boo ****ing hoo about NDSU being part of, I guess, a "remedial division of football". NDSU, at 15k enrollment, could match Northwestern (not their endowment), but they are not on the same planet as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Penn St. Etc... What does that make the SWAC anyway? You are correct. NDSU got beat by Big Ten schools in the leather helmet days...back when Minnesota was padding national championships. No dodging post 1950....Big Ten schools were not going to be playing College Division/DII NDSU.

So you agree NDSU is a bunch of Cowards running away from FBS competition. BTW, no one would expect your program to play in the BIG because quite frankly you all are not even close to being on that level and would be a perpetual cellar dweller. You all are closer to the Mountain West, Conference USA, Mid America or American Conference type. However, you guys are too pathetic to play against teams closer to your level. Nope. Don't agree at all. The NDSU football scheduling formula is pretty straight forward. Conference schedule...plus 1 regional FBS game (2015 with Iowa State and 2016 with Iowa)...plus two "one and done" push over home games (teams like...you guys). If a FBS invite comes, I'm sure it would be entertained, but I imagine NDSU's geographic location and available conferences will hinder that from happening.

Um... for one Ebony Einstein there aren't any APR sanctions, there are bans until the NCCA finish it's investigation and make a decison on our progress.

2) Football is the only relevant program that PV really has, and your fan base doesn't really support it, so any bump in the road flushes it even further down the toilet.

3) Even IF they were to ban all our sports, (which is highly unlikely) it still doesn't effect our football program because we don't participate in post season play, or did you not know that?

USL (who we OWN) sucks, New Mexico's won 14 games in SIX years....The U of H team who spanked you all 66-13 beat South Florida, 35-23. For comparison's sake, We beat that same South Florida team 53-21....

Okay, so McNeese plays a 3-9 USL squad and crushes them. You play a 3-9 squad and get crushed and you don't see the gap between where you're at and where we're at?

Damn....Lots of Stupid Southern Grads out there....

No wonder you're USL fans...

And what 3-9 squad might that be? Again lying is second nature to you.

First you go around bragging that you beat UL-Lafayette as if it was some big accomplishment, than you lie and say SU didn't want to play McNeese because they were afraid, and that we paid McNeese $50k.

After I showed the stupidity in that type of thinking, you than lie and say that New Mexico had only won 14 games in six years..

I sense a servere need for attention.

Good God, the situation at Southern is worse than we thought! So if team went 4-9, 3-9, 1-11, 1-11, 1-11 and 4-9 in successive seasons, how many games did they win, Steve Hawking????

Since you're a Southern man, let's make it easier. What do you get when you add 3 plus 4 plus 1 plus 1 plus 1 plus 4??

Hint: 14...and how many seasons are reflected in those records?
Hint: 6...

Any questions?

Wait, nevermind...Just jurry up and get my order right and don't forget the fries!

No wonder they can't keep anybody eligible at Southern. I bet you guys have trouble with remedial reading, too...

This thread is great. It illustrates just how perfect Southern is to play USL's bitch. They get to beat you down on the cheap, get a nice halftime show, and you get the built in excuse for the loss that USL is "FBS"....

All this discussion for a dumb spot on ESPN 3. And JROCK, NDSU was ranked 17th on Sagarin and had 9 AP votes last year. Our conference plays at the same level of football as Sun Belt, MAC with less scholarships. As for us hiding, some conference has to be willing to take us plus we need a lot more money. Your conference plays at best- average D2 level. When you are relevant in the college football world come talk trash to us. For now, your opinion is the same as your team- insignificant.

MAC football on average is absolutely a step up in play from MVFC.

Would NDSU beat most MAC teams the last three years? True. But NDSU is a standout from the conference. As is Northern Illinois from the MAC, which would've beaten NDSU probably 7-3 in a ten game playoff.

LOL, that includes all the people in Buffalo Wildwings and Hooters, where that **** was on the tube because it was the only game on TV at the time. NOT because there was any huge interest in the New Orleans BOWEL...

To the best of my knowledge, you're factually wrong here. As I understand, TV ratings are based only on records of what "Television households" were viewing at that particular timeslot.

Therefore, televisions in public places do not count for ratings. And that makes sense, for precisely the reasoning you were using. In other words, just because a television is tuned to a particular program does not mean anyone is viewing it.

So let's investigate:

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Josh Dewey (http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/511110/josh-dewey) intercepted a pass at the goal line in the final minute to preserve a 27-23 victory for Nicholls State over Western Michigan on Saturday.

Nicholls has had a losing record in FCS play in seven of the last eight years. They went 4-8 last year, tied for last place in the Southland, and went 2-8 in games against Division I opponents.. one of which was Western Michigan out of the MAC.

Four MAC teams couldn't crack the 3-win plateau, including Western Michigan (UMass, Miami (OH) and Eastern Michigan were the others).

UMass' only win came against winless Miami (OH).

Eastern Michigan's two wins came against Western Michigan, and Howard out of the MEAC (and Eastern Michigan struggled during most of that game against 6-6 Howard).

Western Michigan's only win came against UMass.

You can make an excellent case that any number of 4-8 MVFC teams, including South Dakota, Missouri State and Western Illinois, would have smoked all four of these teams. All three were miles ahead of Nicholls in terms of quality, and UNI, who finished alongside of them, would have smoked all four without even a discussion on the matter.

Let's see here.
2013 MVFC was rated above-
MAC- West
CUSA East
MAC- East
2012-
MW
2011-
Not rated above but similar to Sun Belt
Point being the best/top FCS and the worst FBS conferences are usually similar in the level of play. Before the MVFC, CAA has also done the same. I don't see how we are worst that the MAC or Sun Belt outside of the one dungeon dweller (Indiana State) which kills our conference ratings. At the end of the season MAC or Sun Belt are better than MVFC or CAA based on depth, that is all I am willing to concede.

So let's take two teams that finished 4-4 in the MAC and MVFC and compare.

Ohio (7-6 - played in St. Petersburg Bowl)

Beat Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), UMass - = 3 wins over Indiana State
Beat Austin Peay = worse than win over Indiana State
Beat Marshall, North Texas - successful C-USA teams with loads of wins against cupcake OOC teams like Idaho and Miami (OH)
Beat Akron - the biggest quality win on their schedule, a 7-5 MAC team

Illinois State (5-6, 4-4 in MVFC)
Beat Northern Iowa, a 7-5 MVFC team
Beat Abeline Christian, a strong D-II heading to D-I
Beat Indiana State
Beat South Dakota, Western Illinois

At absolute worst they are even in terms of quality. Marshall and North Texas were two of the biggest consumers of cupcakes at the FBS level.

I don't understand why people keep giving us **** for not moving up-
We've only been a short while in the FCS
We play in one of the best FCS conferences
No one wants NDSU in their FBS conference
NDSU is not a good fit geographically in any current FBS conference
We do not have the money to move up
The Fargodome is barely adequate for FBS
The Fargo market isn't big enough for conferences to actively pursue us
The college football landscape might change significantly and it makes sense in just staying put for now

He isn't wrong. Like my previous post said, we are rated right along them. Why don't you present some proof to the contrary? I would say MVFC, CAA, (3rd best FCS) are close peers to Sun Belt and MAC. Prairie View is not remotely ready for NDSU. NDSU could have scored 100+ points if their coaching staff didn't show compassion starting mid-2nd quarter :( (last game @ the Fargo Dome).

And as early as this fall, Prairie View is not ready for I think division-I FCS pre-season ranked #7 McNeese State either. But one thing's for sure, PVAMU WILL come to play and it will be a great litmus test to let all Panther faithful know how far we have to go in order to become respectable and truly competitive. One cannot just "field a team, just because" against an opponent w/ the drive of McNeese St.

Looking forward to the fellowship and watching a few connects (McNSt) play this fall. Really proud of those guys. They represent McNSt very well.
