View Full Version : "Robinson Stadium is hallowed ground," Spears said. "They disrespected us."

GRAMBLING — Saturday's Jackson State game was book-ended by a face-off at midfield and then the ejection of two players.
Grambling State coach Melvin Spears said he wasn't surprised by the charged emotions.

The afternoon began with JSU players surging toward midfield, as pregame warm-ups got underway, chanting: "We own the SWAC."
A raucous announced crowd of nearly 19,000, many of them JSU fans, only added spice to this bubbling roux by joining in.
...

"That little stunt got to us," said junior Clyde Edwards, one of two GSU receivers with more than 100 yards on the day. "That's the worst thing they could have done."

"We couldn't let them disrespect the 'G,' " Landers said. "This game is definitely one of those games where you look back and think this is where we put it all together."

What was that bit about Jackson St fans? More JSU fans than Grambling fans in Louisiana? Surprising to see such an ICON outdrawn on their home turf...

We weren't.

Was Nick Deriso wrong? Did I read the below statement wrong? I guess it can be taken two ways. One, there were many JSU fans or two, a majority of the fans at the game were JSU fans...

We took a three-year break, but Jackson State has led I-AA in home attendance many times in the past and is the current leader now. JSU also travels well, especially to Grambling.

No school in 1-aa travels like Southern University point blank. SU took over Alcorn's stadium and campus this weekend even with the way our team is playing.

You misinterpreted...It said "many" of them were JSU fans, not "most" of them. JSU brought a nice crowd, but the stands were predominantly GSU.

We all know Gram doesn't have a home fan base.

The attendance is dictated by the opponent...just like the rest of the teams in the state. SU's last home game drew about 12500...in a metropolitan area much heavier populated than the Grambling area. Our turnout for JSU was announced at 18K...Will SU have a 18K home crowd attendance this year? I doubt it...:twocents:

JSU defensive end Indrees Abdur-Rashied was called for a personal foul, as was Grambling outside linebacker James Carter, and both were ejected. Coaches said that meant neither could play in the early going of next week's games, according to league rules.

Does that mean they can't play in the first quarter (or first half)?

Alabama St. was our last home game.

I stand corrected...for some reason, I thought you guys played this one in Mobile. But still, the fact remains that your attendance (actual on campus) isn't what it should be considering your location. Yall always claim to take over folks stadium with 10-15K but only average around that amount at your home stadium.xcoffeex
