You are correct. They are retaining at least 1 existing coach, Dave Sollazo, the former associate head coach/d-line. He is popular with players and recruits. A bunch of coaches were fired by Molnar(previous head coach) b4 he got the ax. Whipple will be interviewing the remaining existing coaches to see if there is a fit or if he needs to bring in more of his own choices for his staff.

So what do UMass fans think of having the nomad Whipple back?

Liam Coen is a good guy. Enjoyed getting to know him a bit when he was the UMass QB.

I am a former player and couldn't be any happier with the hire. The alumni and boosters are energized and Whip being hired has had a Dr. Feelgood effect. Whipples journeys as a football coach over the last 10 years have brought a lot of NFL expeirance and 2 years expeirance as Miami's OC under his belt. There had been a serious disconnect with the prior head coach for the last two years. FYI, Molnar's buyout, $800k was footed by boosters.

Whipple is great. If he can't do it-then I don't know who could.
Same with Fleming at URI.

Another name you may know, Marcel Shipp, will be on Whipples staff as well. Things are getting good Amherst for 3 reasons. 1) We hired the right coach. 2) Half of the home games will be in Amherst. 3) This will grow attendance due to reasons 1 & 2.

The question is, will Shipp and Coen be suiting up, or coaching?
