Tiger Gridders Win Barbecue Bowl Championship

FRISCO, Tex. - Led by some excellent bowling performances by Christian Carpenter (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=205371981&DB_OEM_ID=21300), Jake Ryder (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=209259339&DB_OEM_ID=21300), Derrick Joseph (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=205235867&DB_OEM_ID=21300), Tye Smith (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=205238118&DB_OEM_ID=21300) and Brian Matthews (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=206286766&DB_OEM_ID=21300), the Tiger football team captured the 2014 Great Texas Barbecue Bowl championship in competition held at The Main Event on Thursday evening.
As a highlight of the evening, Towson players and North Dakota State players competed in three events - speed billiards, mechanical bull-riding and bowling.
The Tigers captured the championship by winning the speed billiards and bowling competitions.
Strong play by Doug Shaw (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=204763617&DB_OEM_ID=21300), Walter Dunston (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=205238223&DB_OEM_ID=21300) and Brian Dowling (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=209251026&DB_OEM_ID=21300) lifted the Tigers to a win in the speed billiards competition. North Dakota State tied the competition by winning the mechanical bull-riding. Equipment manager Mike McIntosh, freshman James Simms (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=206284420&DB_OEM_ID=21300) and sophomore Brandan Berney (http://www.towsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=205564596&DB_OEM_ID=21300) competed on the bull for Towson.
In the final event, the Tigers captured the bowling competition, thanks to Carpenter, Ryder, Joseph, Smith and Matthews.
