If the NCAA would even consider this, which I don't think they should, this would open the door for other fans crying about unfair conditions and advantages of home field. Imagine someone arguing that playing in North Dakota State's Fargo Dome is too loud and could damage my eardrums. The NCAA should be legal responsible ear damage or worse!

Unsportsmanlike conduct in Seattle

Was anyone else appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct of the Seattle Seahawks (http://www.sfgate.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=opinion%2Fletterstoeditor&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Seattle+Seahawks%22) and their fans, juiced on noise, which surely creates as big an advantage over an opponent as any performance enhancing drug and which, to their shame, NFL officials turn the same blind eye they have to concussions and drugs ("Seattle states case loudly, clearly in rout," Sports, Sept. 16)?

It would be simple to fix. Seahawks players and managers would ask their fans to cease and desist, and the NFL would implement a new rule: The visiting team may stop the game when fan noise is greater than a specified decibel level, and should this rule be violated in more than three games, no home games will be played at the offending field for the rest of the season, including playoff games. Things would quiet down.
At a time when the world seems sour, sports give us a place of joy, community and hope, and to have it spoiled is a bigger loss than it seems on the surface.

You could make the same argument about playing in the heat and humidity. It's 105 degrees with 50% humidity (134 heat index). I have been in these conditions as a fan, but didn't complain about wanting the game moved to a cooler location.

If I may....my name is Steve Ross....yes I have a player on the team and I'm very proud of him and what his team has accomplished....who wouldn't be! But, REALLY does it really make sense for the NFL or NCAA to hold a Superbowl playoff game or Bowl game in almost Canada...Really @ below 0! I appreciate the home field advantage and the ticket sales but as long as were talking about the Big Sky perhaps Northern Arizona should have gotten the bye over Montana and what's up with (4) teams making it to the playoffs from that conference...this is suppose to be a reward for all teams from all conferences...cry all you want and point me out all you want as a whiner but I am also a realist...you are in for more game than you ever expected...these boyz from Coastal are pretty damn good and gamers too! Enjoy watching them...they are also a product of this great country the USA! For God's sake it's just a football game but if I listened to all that you up there had to say I would think it is a life or death situation in Montana. I have nothing but respect for the game of football and all those that love and have played the sport! My prayers are for all playing to remain under God's care and have no injuries! BTW...Stwfen Doogless his name is A-Ross or Alexander just get used to hearing it! Next time get your story right and do your homework. OMG! I remember this event well - Oct of 1982 - ."I think it began in the fall of 1982, when seven people died after taking extra-strength Tylenol laced with poison after it left the factory," he says. Halloween was just around the corner, and parents began checking every item in the loot bags. Homemade brownies and cookies (usually the most coveted items) hit the garbage; unwrapped candy followed close behind."

Little did I know some 30 years later it would be cited as a tipping point for helpless children!

Don't forget this gem from a couple of seasons ago...

http://hamptonroads.com/2011/11/12th-man-lifted-odu

Re 'Crosstown showdown: Monarchs rule,' front page, Nov. 27: What went into the record books as a win was really a sham and a disgrace to competitive college sports. This game was equivalent to two boxers competing in the ring with one of them blindfolded. On nearly every offensive play by Norfolk State, the crowd noise was so high that it drowned out the play-calling. The team simply couldn't hear the plays. This was not the case when Old Dominion had the ball. You could hear a pin drop when they were on offense. This partisan behavior by ODU fans was reprehensible by design and should be considered a shameful act to control the outcome. The results should be thrown out due to unsportsmanlike conduct by the fans.

She will be a cold one Saturday, when the No. 4 Montana Grizzlies play host to No. 11 Coastal Carolina in a second-round Football Championship Subdivision playoff game, and local fans can’t wait to see how the Chanticleers out of Conway, S.C., adjust to the weather.
One forecast has 3 degrees below zero for the noon (Mountain) kickoff, and that would set a record for a game at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, a venue that opened in 1986.

I don't know that I agree on what started it all but there is no denying that the younger generation has no idea what "paying your dues" means. At least not most of them. The I want it now, I'm a winner, I deserve it mantra has been rammed down their throats for so long and now the chickens are coming home to roost. Sad statement about where we are as a country but it is what it is. Real world lessons are much tougher for these kids than of those who's parents raised them to realize there are winners and losers, everyone wants to win but someone has to lose as well. How you handle losing says more about you than winning. Winning is easy but learning how to cope with life's losses is much harder. Anyway this guy is a tool and I hope as others have hinted this may be just a big joke on all of us but the truth is many folks do think like that and that is the sad part.

I'd be curious to hear from ex players about this subject. I always get a chuckle from comments like this and it makes me wonder do players really care about comments made by fans and such? I mean yeah other players or coaches making a derogatory remark is one thing but fans parents ect do players really need that for motivation or even get any motivation from it? Seriously if a players needs that for motivation are they really even in the right frame of mind? Are the coaches doing their job if a player isn't motivated come playoff time that you need some lame internet messages to get them pumped up? Besides truth be told does anyone really know if this is legit? I still think someone is having a lot of fun with this and folks are getting spoofed.

The other side of the coin, reverse psychology, and people think it is going to be easy.

Wrestling at the national level, finished 2nd in freestyle, I was a scrawny kid and most of the time I wrestled at 10 pounds lighter than my competitors. Wrestled 98 as 85 pounds as a freshman.

I was always smaller. If I had not wrestled a kid before and they didn't know me I would trip in the way out to shake hands, sometimes evening falling. At that point the match was over. They would laugh at me, until they were on the bottom 10 seconds later fighting for their life.

My Dad would laugh every time I did it.

Win the mental game!

Just to interject a few facts. The NORMAL temperatures for December 6 in Missoula are 32/18. We did not order up this arctic blast just to irritate Mr. Ross. Moreover, the Missoulian this morning noted that in the four coldest games ever played at WA/GRIZ, Montana is 2-2. Why? They were late season games against good, playoff teams. At least Mr. Ross has established his excuse if CC loses, so he won't have to credit the Griz team. But CC has a good chance of winning, if they are as good as he thinks they are.

This thread is really funny. I recall a year in the past that Montana traveled to Statesboro expecting to play in warm weather. WRONG!!!! Upon arrival the temperature was lower in Statesboro than Montana. On Saturday, we sat through snow flurries. I am a fan of CCU but winning with a high ranking gets you home field advantage. Maybe next year, you can win them all and have Montana travel to Conway, SC. The beach will be a huge distraction to the Grizzies and warm weather if it works out to your benefit.

Good luck to the Griz and Chants!!

Most? I doubt it's a majority. It sounds like a few vocal fans are being whiny. Listen, the weather has gotten more press than two teams that will actually be playing. I understand it's cold there and hell, I would love it if we were playing in temperatures above freezing. But alas, we are not. So what will bitching about it do? It will only make us look bad.

Yeah, this is just a whiny parent. Nothing more. He's taking the attention from the real story: The CCU Football Team will play tomorrow against the Montana Grizzlies and they'll play to the best of their abilities. Being this is a late season game and it's unusually cold, the Griz will be uncomfortable as well. I don't know many people that LIKE being outside when the mercury goes into the single digits.

As his comments are truly stupid on an epic level, it's likely the team heard about them. While I doubt they'll get riled up, I suspect they'll get a good laugh out it.

If internet posts by an individual fan actually affected teams, every man, woman and child in America would hate Chattanooga.

Yes the forecasted high of 6 degrees, or zero, will be a factor for both teams. You can expect more fumbles, and dropped balls, but you can play in it. Though the more recent forecast for light winds of 10 to 15 mph are a real concern. Even at that relatively low speed the wind would make it far more than "uncomfortable". I hope that forecast is wrong as that will make it brutal. Either way both teams face the same conditions and we have two very good teams. Even with these conditions I'm expecting a good game, and I'm definitely looking for a couple of shots of whiskey before kickoff! Go Griz!

Ah, not so much. Personally I enjoy the chill and have spent at least a couple hours a day this week out walking in it and so forth. I will say this though as I got to UM this morning walking across campus to go pick up my tickets there was a slight wind and it was a drastic drop from other areas of town I have trucked around this week.

Have a balaclava in your pocket fella's and the rest of the normal gear you wear. You may not need it for long but it will be worth it's weight in gold if that whistlin' wind picks up for a few minutes here and there.

True, but our tailgate is right outside the NEZ and is a motorhome which is fairly loaded with food and drink but having a bota is not a bad idea for when you go in but it sort of goes without saying and people are more likely to forget gloves, coats, or face masks than a bota.:D

Looks like Mr. Ross isn't the only one who thinks it is too cold, playing in it is one thing, sitting in the stands is another. A warm house, or a nice bar with buddies and beer isn't a bad decision. At -23 below windchill right now and -6 real temp in Fargo, the Fargodome will be a cozy place to watch the game.

Maybe a few but playoff crowds are typically around 18K to just a little over 20K. The first couple rounds are usually the lightest crowds of the year. What would have been unusual would be to see anything over the maybe 19K mark.

I'm not to concerned about the screwing around. Most coaches want a Friday walk through to be relaxed. I know for a fact that Jerry Moore had his teams have fun on Fridays. Lineman played walk tag football while skill players kicked field goals, punted, etc. If you're not ready by Friday, nothing you can do will get you ready.

Complaining about the cold is another issue. Man up, get over it (it's cold and there's nothing you can do to change it), and try to get used to it (as if that's possible in a few hours time).

Windchill warning for -20 in Cheney overnight, with temp warming to "feel like 0 degrees" for the duration of the game. I agree with this father. It is too cold to play in these conditions, and to watch a game in these conditions. Therefore, the NCAA should fly all players, coaches, staff and all other personal associated with these cold weather games, and of course the fans to a warm neutral site location...or I'm gonna sue!xmadx

Cant really say I miss those cold games outiside in ND.

Playing is diffferent than sitting in the stands. I will say this it is even more comical that someone like PoisonGriz would say it is comical the way the team acted i walk throughs. We had a last minute shopping spree for cold weather gear. Moglia joked that he has a good pair of boots, but they are packed away in Omaha. He said that most of the players didn't have winter coats but I think they purchased new team coats. Not sure if they have sideline jackets or not but they have purchased pants, shirts, hoods to be worn under the uniform.

Here's a story that discusses it.
http://www.abcfoxmontana.com/story/24150532/coastal-carolina-football-arrives-in-missoula

It was so cold Thursday night that the Coastal kickers busted 8 balls. The Big Sky said extra balls will be on hand. Anyone know the rules if a ball busts during a kickoff or field goal attempt?

People are giving this guy crap, somewhat deservedly so, but it is freaking cold there. Someone on eGriz said he has a friend with the national weather service in Missoula and they were discussing with the NCAA if the game should be postponed or cancelled. I believe this will be the coldest game Montana has hosted. Officials are warning people on how to dress properly, what to eat / drink, events are being cancelled or moved inside, and they expect around half of the fans to show. I've read some posts from some seemingly hardcore Missoulians that said it is colder than they even expected. It is easy to joke but this isn't even normal game weather by Montana standards.

Highly doubt that is true, more than likely they are being sarcastic and you didn't get it. How about next time you post a link to prove it. No way the NCAA is going to cancel any football game because of cold weather(unless it is deadly cold like -35 or worse with wind chills at -70) just to accommodate some warm weather school.

Walked outside at 6AM and no wind
If that's the case it will be a pleasant day for football

I was down there yesterday and they were complaining very loudly about how cold it was.

He was being a sarcastic troll and trying to get everyone on Egriz into a pissing match. He succeeded.

I am sure that the CC team is doing all they can to act like it is no big deal for them in front of the cameras and while being interviewed. But once they are off the air they are complaining to beat all hell. I would give anything to see the faces of the CC players when they get blasted by a Montana player once the cold has set in.

Do you guys really think the Griz players aren't complaining also? When was the last time they played in these conditions? Not this year, probably not last year. Some of the never have. This effects both teams.

Once the game starts the last thing any of them will be thinking of is the temperature outside.

they have if they have been here more than a couple of years. I am sure we don't like it. The difference is we didn't just pack up and fly from 70+ degree weather 2 days ago.

Whatever dick, I just said they were discussing it. If you paid attention then you'd see that's all I said. I never thought it would be cancelled. Don't worry, nothing you say will make me cry.

Funny how you get all bent out of shape because you just brought up how they were discussing postponing/canceling but when I reply with how there not going to do that and I contradict your post you call me a dick and get you girl panties in a bunch. That temp in Montana for the game today is nothing those guys have not seen before and it's not going to kill anybody or make them freeze if they use common sense for that part of the country. And if CC has no idea how to handle it they can ask and I am sure Montana coaches will tell them.
The only reason they put out all the warnings about how to dress has nothing to due with the Montana fans (for gods sake, they live in it), it's for the CC fans so they know what to do since they don't live in it. Montana has played in worse conditions before.

The Griz players are way more likely to have played in these kinds of conditions than the CC players. Not this year or even last year, but most grew up in it and have seen it before throughout there lifetime, and that is going to be the difference.

Actually, many, but not all, of the UM players are not complaining at all. They look forward to playing in weather like this, and they know it gives them an advantage. They believe they and many of the team are tougher than the CC players, in terms of playing in this type of weather.

As has been mentioned, UM did its winter conditioning outside in the stadium last winter, at 6am 3 days a week. Thus, they have run and worked out in similar conditions in recent times. Probably threw the ball around a bit. Practiced in it all week.

Who knows how the weather/cold will impact the teams, and individual players and teams, but for you to spew nonsense like you have is ridiculous. Don't post if you don't know what you're talking about.

Too bad MSU isn't hosting a game this weekend.
Last night's cold was a balmy 23 below zero and it is currently 12 below.

You should probably look at the Montana roster. And being from Montana, the kids in high school are done in November, when the average low is 21. So no most did not grow up or play in conditions like this. Also do you think when I stepped out this morning when it is -16 without windchill that my body is accustom to it because I was in those temps last year?
