National anthem over...

To paraphrase coach Moore "the only thing that hasn't changed for Elon in the offseason is their school colors." The Phoenix are getting much respect as perhaps the most improved team in the SoCon...

I'm not anticiapating that Elon pulls this one out, but they don't have to win to further demonstrate that they're much better than before.

This one ought to be interesting...

There is a huge crowd here today. Could be another record-setting day. It was really cool seeing Larry Hand get his No. 71 retired today. Great player for the Detroit Lions. He still looks good.

Hey, the "Roach" was somewhat before my time, but I've got nothin' but love after the seeding last year. FTR, I'm wearing a #44 jersey. Damnit, I always buy seniors' jerseys. My forsh year I had a K.T. Stovall. Soph year = DaVon Folkes. Junior Year = RICHIE WILLIAMS.

I need to invest in younger players. It'd save me money on jerseys.

A.Edwards is 11-15 for 153 yards with 1 interception and 1 touchdown
W.Pope is 9-19 with 1 interception and 0 touchdowns
both teams interceptions were returned for touchdowns

K.Richardson has 81 yards on 12 rushes and 1 touchdown

If he makes a mistake, I'm going to say it. Yes, he has had some good plays. But he has to cut down on the mistakes when he goes up against better SoCon teams (beginning next week. Thank you for saying that. Sometimes I think I'm the lone voice in the wilderness not sold on Edwards. Yes, he is an exceptional athlete, but he is a freshman and he is making a lot of mistakes. Fortunately, he is able to make up for a lot of them with his feet. You are right Mayfield bailed him out several times yesterday. Trey also made good decisions running the ball and looked very composed. One idiot behind me yelled "Elder go get Edwards a drink of water!" They are both good QB's, neither is good enough right now to carry us through the playoffs. To me, Trey is just a more complete QB right now. Armanti is the better runner, Trey is the better passer, but we need the down field passing game more than the running. We have one of the best RB's in I-AA nation, so a running QB is only needed at times. Trey is a capable running QB, showing that several times yesterday. Anyone that thinks Armanti is head and shoulders over Trey or vice versa is just ignorant. That being said, I do believe that Armanti has the brighter future, but RIGHT NOW is what matters to me, and yesterday, Trey was better.

One of the drawbacks to Trey is that he is in the same ballpark as Edwards in making the mistakes to which inexperienced QB's are prone. Trey's maturity just does not stand out head and shoulders above Armanti. Trey, too, is just too easy to nail in the backfield or pressure into having to unload the ball into the ground or out of bounds.

You're right, Edwards was throwing some high but in more than one case, they would have been interceptions if they had actually been on target. Still, throwing high is just asking for an interception or even worse it puts the receiver in vulnerable position.
Elon's defenders were covering us quite well. Steve Bown pointed that out a couple of times.

Interceptions as it turned out:
Armanti threw 1 interception out of 20 throws and wasn't sacked in the 3 quarters. Trey threw 1 interception in 14 pass attempts and got sacked once.

Armanti Edwards 20-15-1 193 1 39 0

One of the drawbacks to Trey is that he is in the same ballpark as Edwards in making the mistakes to which inexperienced QB's are prone. Trey's maturity just does not stand out head and shoulders above Armanti. Trey, too, is just too easy to nail in the backfield or pressure into having to unload the ball into the ground or out of bounds.

IMHO Trey has problems because he thinks too much in "complicated" situations. When he "read/reacts" he is just fine. The problem comes in on plays when he starts thinking. That extra 1.5-2 seconds causes problems.

I agree. Too, it seems, something about his drop sometimes keeps him from seeing the first one or two quick open receivers.
Last year, too, it seems he wasn't great at seeing the defender who laid off a bit making a receiver seem to be open when in fact he was just timing for the interception attempt. Hard for any QB to be able to tell the difference in that split second.

Elder is not going to lead us to any Championships period. Might as well let Edwards learn and lead.

I agree. I was at the game, and I much preferred what I saw in Armanti, vs. Elder. Let him back up Edwards.

Armanti has the same problems that Michael Vick has. It worries me that he may never correct his throwing, otherwise I think he is a great QB.
