Much to the chagrin of the "never hads" and the "recent haves" on this board, an outstanding performance was turned in by two Appalachian players last night.

Offensive Player of the week: Marcus Cox, 149yds rushing 1 TD, including the lions share of the game-clinching back-breaking final drive and 169 yds receiving and 2 tds.

Defensive Player of the week: John Law, 15 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery.

Only question left is which one of these two will get Freshman of the week.

I would think Summerlin gets the offensive player of the week with 478 yards of passing. Ben Dupree might also win it over Cox.

I would think Cox is a lock for the freshman of the week, though.

Ben Dupree had a great game, but his and all of the aforementioned performances pale in comparison to D Rob's 227 yards on 24 carries.

If he isn't the POTW then somebody's brain has fallen out.

I thought all the freshmen recruited for the sun bletch were being redshirted.

Only Cox had a notable performance for the Apps yesterday, but there are about 5 other SoCon players who should be in front of him this week.

Are you just talking among offensive players?

Because 15 tackles, 2 INT's, 1 fumble recover by John Law seems rather notable, imo.

We didn't see it coming on tape, but Andy Summerlin probably could have played in the NFL yesterday ... he consistently showed very good pocket feet and awareness and made some terrific reads and throws ... even going back to last year tape, you never really saw Samford open up the passing game until yesterday against us ... if they can build on that, and get their running game going, they'll be tough for anybody to defend.

Cox's stat line was better 150 rushing yards and 150 receiving yards.

Are you serious? Good win, but please don't talk about summerlin and the NFL or about samfords offense being tough to defend. Both of those are beyond absurd.

Yeah, I'm dead serious. He played his ass off, and yes he looked NFL caliber yesterday. He may never play like that again, but for one afternoon, at least, he was lights out. Hats off to him!

Summerlin is a good player. He's in his sixth (I think) year of college football. He's got some talented veterans around him (Truss and Pope) that make life a little easier.

You made my point earlier when you said that Cox was our only weapon; if that were true, then it should have been easier for Elon to key on him. That is especially true on the final drive with 3+ minutes to go when he carried the ball for 7 out of the 8 plays for 75 yards and the final touchdown.

I didn't say he was your only weapon, I said he had the only notable performance against Elon (offense).

Yes we can, 300 yards for a RB trumps 260 yards for a QB (a player that touches the ball every play) everytime.

Ben also gets HIT on every play as well. 36pts scored in a game trumps 14

NC A&T and Elon combined < ODU

Maybe it is ASU that needs to try harder.
