It's a surprise that UD is not down by two tds....

Sam Adams
September 23rd, 2006, 12:42 PM
URI sucks so its not a huge surprise, plus if the hens spit the bit again at home the fans are going to tear that place apart.

PantherRob82
September 23rd, 2006, 12:47 PM
is this a young delaware team that is still gelling?

Sam Adams

There are alot of frosh & soph on the UD roster, same with URI.

Teams are always "young" when they aren't winning as much as expected.

That is ........ what I was thinking:nod:

RadMann
September 23rd, 2006, 01:17 PM
That was not a UD fan saying the team was young, that came from a UMass person....

Sam Adams
September 23rd, 2006, 01:22 PM
...and i didn't say "they were young" I stated a fact which is that UD has alot of frosh & soph on the roster. I have not looked at depth charts etc. It could be that UD starts Jrs & Srs across the bd (i'll guess that they don't) I was merely looking at the roster and seeing lots of underclassmen.

I think UD's main problem is that Keeler is not a great coach.

RadMann
September 23rd, 2006, 01:24 PM
My opionion is that UD owns UMass over the years.....

Your opinion should be that Tubby owned UMass. UDs years of owning UMass are far over. Enjoy the bottom of the league again this year.

mainejeff

Ahh, the bad blood between Delaware and UMass fans rears its ugly head. Actually James Madison was always the perrenial "young" team until they won it all.

RadMann
September 23rd, 2006, 01:29 PM
I can understand the UMass fan's bitterness towards UD. Jeez they barely won a game in the series for decades.... We need to give them room to vent... ;)

Well I wasn't trying to be smart ( at least at first) but I did hear that UD was young last year.

It can happen. FU was young last year on D and is young (but not that much) some on O this year

I can't believe how quickly that game went especially trhe second half with these new rules. It seemed like halftime ended and then the game ended in no time.... These rules are not good and especially hurt a running team like URI if they need to come from behind.... Hopefully the rule is are amended after the season....

Have fun with that one. Maybe UNHs starters will play in the second half for a bit before being taken out because of the blowout.

I think this season should have an asterisk in all of the record books.

*Note: This record was set in that bogus 2006 season when some brain-dead administrator at the NCAA actually thought shorter football games would be better.

One thing that Delaware does know how to do is win on the road and win close games.

True. Delaware seems to put out better efforts on the road sometimes.......guess that it's a treat for them to play away from Newark ;)

RadMann
September 23rd, 2006, 03:17 PM
MaineJeff: To be honest, UD's record at home is much better than on the road, especially since Keeler took over.... As to the UNH game, UD looks to have a below average squad this year and we all know how good UNH looks so chances are UNH will gain a relatively rare win in Newark next week, but we never know until they play.... I have always respected UNH's program and they have always played UD tough. Of the original Yankee conference programs I believe (have not checked this for sure) they have the best record against UD amongst all of those programs (although UD has a winning record against them)...

If UNH wins this game,I'm not so sure it will be in blowout fashion.

I remember the last UNH game at the Tub in '04. UD injures UNH's QB (forgot his name) and the monster that is Ricky Santos is born.

Me either. I've rarely gone into a UD game with the thought that the team was a very significant underdog but this is a major exception. Unless things go very differently from what I think is likely this could get very ugly....

I remember the last UNH game at the Tub in '04. UD injures UNH's QB (forgot his name) and the monster that is Ricky Santos is born.

That game was the culmination one of the most improbable stories I can ever remember. Santos came out of spring practice as the #4 QB on the team. During the summer the 3rd team QB left for Mississippi State to play baseball. The #2 QB was injured in fall practice. Senior Mike Granierei was the #1 QB injured in the Delaware game, and the rest is some amazing history.

On another note, I am amazed that anyone is talking about a blowout at The Tub. I for one will have no part of that discussion. I have way too much respect for UD to even begin to think that way.

RadMann
September 23rd, 2006, 04:15 PM
The interesting thing is that that UNH QB (Granierei) who was injured in the UD-UNH game that lead to Santos playing seemed to be a very good QB. I recall from the game the year before that he seemed to be a very good passer. What was the injury that took him out anyway?

In the past... on the few occasions that UD was major underdog at the Tub... the Hens were able to rise their level of play and often came away with a win. I can recall three such occasions... '77 vs an unbeaten Colgate team... '89 vs unbeaten Maine and the '02 season opener vs defending champ GSU. All were upset wins by UD. However... I don't have much confidence that the current edition of the Hens has enough talent to repeat that success.

I believe that Mike went down with a torn ACL injury. He just finished up a season of division 2 arena football-in Albany I think.

I think that most old-time UNH fans will tell you that they would be happy with a win in Newark.......ANY win in Newark.....by 1 point or 50 points.

With games vs. Richmond, UMass and Maine (on the road) still to come, the Wildcats can't afford a loss to an obviously over-matched (but still dangerous at home) Delaware team.

I made comment to that effect last week. This will be the first time EVER that I go into a game thinking the Hens have no chance. I've been going to games since the early 70's and it's been few and far between that the Hens were a dog of any amount, but I'm thinking you may have to give me 20 to take the Hens next week. :(
