This has been a heated discussion over on SWACPage and it seems the media has picked up on it as well. Southern is worried more about the playing conditions at venerable Tully Stadium, which is definitely not even among the top HS facilities in Houston.

The stadium holds 15,000 and they'll be turning away folks once that fills. Oddly enough, the PVA&M AD has talked very highly about the stadium...

“It’s a very good venue and with all the amenities,” said Prairie View A&M Athletics Director Charles McClelland said."

I've been to Tully. There's definitely better high school stadiums, but hey, SU did offer PVA&M a game at Mumford in addition to the gate. PVA&M apparently doesn't mind playing in a second-rate high school stadium..:nonono2:

BATON ROUGE -- Southern Coach Pete Richardson doesn't have a good feeling about his team's game today against Prairie View A&M. It has little to do with the Jaguars' opponent and more with the location and surface on which it's being played.

Southern (2-0, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) will meet Prairie View (1-1, 0-1 SWAC) at 1 p.m. today at Darrel Tully Stadium, a high school football field, with a turf that has not been changed since 1996. Tully Stadium is bigger than Prairie View's home field, and stadiums at the University of Houston, Rice and Reliant Stadium will be hosting other games.

"I don't know much about the turf at that stadium," he said. "But it seems that every time we play on turf in Houston, it seems like we leave somebody with some type of injury.

"And you know when you're playing at that time in Texas, it's going to be warm, and when you don't have depth on your football team, you're going to see some results of that. Hopefully, we can get through it without any major injuries."
