Montana played 20 freshmen and 7 seniors in the South Dakota State game. We're losing 9 seniors after this season, 6 are starters.

Furman has 5 senior starters. No other seniors on the 2-deep. However, Furman typically graduates a couple redshirt juniors.

One thing for Furman fans to keep in mind is that, objectively speaking, it's a bit of a rebuilding year in Greenville. 24 of the 44 players on the 2-deep are freshmen or sophomores. Every aspect of both the offense and defense rely heavily on younger players. Hopefully things come together this year, but there should be a window between 2007-2009 to bring home the title that probably should have happened in '04 or '05.

QB- 1 sr, 1 rs so, 1 rs fr, 1 fr (should rs this year)
rb- 2 sr (1 playing, the other is Hillard-we all know he is rs this year), 2 jrs (bradshaw-louisville xfr, coleman-Iowa st xfr), 2 fr rs, 1 fr (will rs this year). If Hillard, Bradshaw, and Coleman stay healthy we will have the best depth in 1AA. It will be a 3 headed monster especially when you see how young our OL is.
WR-no sr's, Chambers, Allen, Bagley all jrs. Schulte, Troxel, Ferriter SO's, Mariani fr rs, Palmer fr rs, Kazmierczak fr (will rs),
TE's /fb/h back-4 tes all true fr or fr rs. All athletic.

Not really as bad as it appears. We're rotating a lot of underclassmen during the course of the game. While the two 'starters' in the backfield are seniors, McGowan, Pastore, and Piascik are all back next year. Similarly, several underclassmen are rotating on both OL and DL. Plus, I'm not sure if Trovato has another year--he was listed as a Junior in the program.

It's true there are a lot of juniors if not a ton of seniors. I think the big thing is the quality of the younger players, many of whom are seeing game action now (About 45 Paladins are seeing snaps either on O or D). There are a lot of really, really good sophs, R-Fr's, and freshmen. OLs Bell, Haynes, WRs Webb, Mims, QBs Sorrells, Worley, RBs LaFrance, Brown... tons of athleticism and skill, same on D.

Next year's team will have more senior starters but the talent is there to avoid a rebuilding period after they graduate.

Somebody did this for college basketball last year and actually came up with a number to represent a team's age.

I've given each player on North Dakota State's roster a "age value"; 0 for a true freshman, 1 for a redshirt freshman, 2 for a sophomore, 3 for a junior, and 4 for a senior). By taking the average of that, you could come up with one number to quantify a team's age.
