An article about our I-AA friends in Davis and how TCU has no plans to overlook the Aggies...

Patterson not letting TCU overlook I-AA UC Davis
STEPHEN HAWKINS
Associated Press

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU coach Gary Patterson sounds wary about playing one of his old teams. And it might not just be coach-speak either.

The No. 23 Horned Frogs play their home opener Saturday night against UC Davis (1-0). While the Aggies are in the final season of their transition from NCAA Division II to I-AA, they have had 36 straight winning seasons and won at Stanford last season.

"I-AA schools are very, very treacherous when you get to really what you have to play, what you have to do," said Patterson, the linebacker coach at UC Davis in 1986. "We'll be their Super Bowl."

UC Davis plays a Top 25 team for the first time.

Sac. St. doesn't exactly have an easy schedule either. At least they have a bye in week 2.

@ Boise St.
Bye
Cal Poly

The Aggies follow those three games with a bye before they go on the road again and face rival Cal Poly.

Sept. 9: @Montana
Sept. 16: @UNI
Sept. 23: @ Nicholls St
Sept. 30: @McNeese St

All against top 25 teams, all on the road, and the last two games will be brutal travelwise.

I think the UC Davis schedule was originally put together to allow the maximum time to finish the new stadium by starting with five road games. Now the stadium won't be finished until 2007 (we hope it's done by then!). I was predicting we would defeat Northern Colorado and either Montana State or Youngstown State and maybe be 2-3 before winning the final six games. However, we could be 1-4 before the first home game which is not good for a team with as much talent as the Aggies.

wow, quite the schedule for all of those teams. makes our next weeks of:

NoDak
SoDakSt
Iowa St

look much better. Wouldn't mind have a little better I-AA opponent in there, but it'll be fun to play some Dakota schools.

TT - Dem kittens will be in rough shape! Mo St and Northwestern may be winnable, but SMU & UT-Austin. Starters out before halftime.

Good luck with the games tho.

That is brutal! That Youngstown St. game will be a dandy. I-AA Game of the Week. As well as Kids Tailgate Day, Fireworks, and another promotion.

I am told this game will be packed, and when I say packed, I mean it.
