Texas Southern's upset win over Alabama A&M just goes to show you that Any Given Saturday, any team can win, even a team that had no wins since 2003 and was going through another rough season over a team that many penned into winning the SWAC East (and eventually did).

We'll see what happens the next time these two teams meet, but I like this article because it talks about how TxSo gets their butt beat left and right, but this same team knocked off the top team in the SWAC East, just going to show you what can happen on Saturdays!

Texas Southern upset of A&M still defies explanation

BIRMINGHAM - Ten months later, it's still the buzz of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, from Texas to Louisiana to Mississippi to Alabama.

"How could that have happened?'' people ask.

Nobody seemed to know at the time. Nobody knows now.

Johnny Thomas' explanation is as good as any.

For those who might have forgotten: Texas Southern, a team that hadn't won a football game since 2003, marched into Louis Crews Stadium last Oct. 1 as a prohibitive underdog and emerged three hours later with the most stunning upset in the modern history of the SWAC, beating Alabama A&M 17-7.

All across the country, those who follow NCAA Division I-AA football must have surely glanced at the score and said to themselves, "That has to be a typo.''

Texas Southern, 0-11 the season before under first-year coach Steve Wilson, had lost to Alabama State and Jackson State to start the 2006 season. Coming into homecoming, A&M was already 4-1.
