Across the way at Bowers Stadium, the new scoreboard will give fans something that a lot of other schools in the conference have — a video board. Instant replays and highlight reels will be flashed on the screen during football games in the fall. Bearkat faithful will be able to relive every breathtaking play and soak up all the action thanks to two live cameras.
One camera will be mounted on the press box at the 50-yard line and another will be down on the field. The camera feed will go into the control room and allow technicians to display them immediately on the video screen.
“The video board is going to give Bearkat fans something they have been missing,” Barfield said. “We are going to have two cameras that will be recording live, and we will be able to cut it into clips and put it up on the board. People are going to get instant highlights as soon as it happens.
“Down the road we are going to put together highlight packages from past games and add music and computer graphics to run during games. This will allow some (radio and television) students a chance to get involved and get experience to help them in their careers.”
The SHSU athletic staff will have the Bowers scoreboard up and running when fall football practice begins in August. The board will be on during practices so they can get used to the controls. When the Bearkats season opener against Arkansas-Monticello rolls around Sept. 9, everything should be in place and ready to go.
