No mention of the 2004 SLC semifinal run by SHSU. Oh well, SLC needs to make it's mark nationally. Loads of SLC teams seem to be in the playoff mix every year, even had three in some years, but the door has got to be knocked down. SLC needs to stop beating up each other, maybe play a little less I-A/sub Div I teams and put ourselves in position to host home games to advance further...

The Southland Conference ranks as one of the top Division I-AA conferences in the nation, but a national title has eluded its members since 1987.

The conference consistently ranks among the top Division I-AA conferences in the nation. Last year, it ranked fourth out of 15 I-AA conferences according to the Web site, www.I-AA.org.

Yet, Louisiana-Monroe was the conference's last national champion in 1987.

Southland members have come close in recent years. Texas State advanced to the semifinals last season. McNeese State finished as runners-up in 2002 and 1997 as did Stephen F. Austin in 1989.
