View Full Version : Lafayette @ W&M Game Thread

Might as well start a thread 'cause it sux that I can't be at the game. I'm up here in increasingly cloudy and stormy coastal Rhode Island instead. In case anyone missed it, the Pards actually flew in a charter from Lafayette Valley International to Newport News, instead of busing it down I-95.

The team took in a little history at Yorktown, where the Marquis de Lafayette played a key role in Siege of Yorktown in October 1781. Apparently the team's local bus driver referred to the French General and Revolutionary War hero as, "Marcus duh la Feyit." Perhaps Lehigh fans might find a use for that moniker later on in the season.

Anyhow, chance of "severe thunderstorms" at Zable this evening but we'll see. The game can be seen by practically anyone who wants to see it - it's on ESPN3, ESPN GamePlan, the usual LSN outlets including GoLeopards.com, CBS Sports AllAccess, RCN in Washington D.C., Philly, Lehigh Valley, NYC and Boston, plus WBPH-TV Channel 60 over the air and on cable/satellite in Philly, Delaware, Lehigh Valley and western New Jersey. Kickoff will be shortly after 7 PM.

The sportsbook line is W&M (-17½). Nevertheless I'm looking forward to a competitive game. GO PARDS.

Maryland beat Temple 37-26..

We played horrible in the first half but were able to make a game of it in the second. Our lack of a passing game still remains a major issue. Even so, W&M must have a very good defense.

Neither team gains an inch on their first possession. Lafayette punts into the W&M end zone.

The weather is getting ugly. High winds.

After giving up one 1st down, Lafayette forces a punt. Illegal block on the return. Second possession will start deep in the Lafayette end.

Mark Ross has now dropped two catchable balls. Another Lafayette punt after picking up one 1st down.

Graham at QB for W&M. What happened to Ortiz?

W&M is gaining field position on these punts.

Just when we had the momentum. I think W&M created the storm on purpose just to throw us off. And all the officials are on the take, too, 'cause they're going along with it.

Rain and a wet ball are beginning to play havoc. W&M forced to punt.

Lafayette starts on their own 5.

carney2
September 8th, 2012, 08:13 PM
Consevative, don't play with the wet ball play calling leaves Lafayette to punt from its own 9.

Great punt keeps the ball away from that no. 2 of W&M.

carney2
September 8th, 2012, 08:17 PM
W&M goes 3 and out, but appears to have decided to use their size advantage to go straight at Lafayette.

Lafayette begins this time from their 7. Can't keep doing this without paying the price.

carney2
September 8th, 2012, 08:21 PM
Shoop slides for a 1st but comes up a yard short.

Delay of game on the punt.

W&M starts this time on the Lafayette side of the 50. They are inching forward.

Well, that was fun. I didn't give us a chance coming into this game. I realize that the Tribe was playing backup QBs and that was a factor of course. But I really have to hand it to our D tonight. Just an outstanding job (save for that last Ortiz TD pass).

You could see the intensity of the Lafayette squad from the get-go. Shoop looks polished and confident. The TEs are going to come up big this season. And Vaughn Hebron - where did that come from?

W&M was tough, physical and aggressive. They're a good team and I hope the Tribe does well in the CAA this season.

But there's joy in Pardsville tonight! It should be a happy flight back to the Lafayette Valley on Bourger International Airlines.

Got to see some of this tonight. Lafayette really did a nice job controlling the tempo of the game. Shoop has improved immensely from last year's debacle in Goodman. Looked like a different person. Played with confidence. Hebron also ran well. Good balance. However, top kudos go to the defense. While Tribe was going with backup QBs, they really stood toe to toe with the W&M and kept the pressure on all night. Excellent win not only for the Spotted Pussies, but the League as well.

Ummmm.... uuhhhhhh... ummmm... yeeeah.

Not sure what to make of it. We actually looked in mid-season form. This whole thing is shocking to say the least. It's like we picked up where we were with the 2009 team. Our OL was actually blowing WM off the line at times and creating holes, and not just late in the game when their defense was tired.

I think the QB of WM did not have a negative impact on the game. Their plan was to run the ball at LC, like the Maryland game, and we completely shut it down. On the first play of the game, we were in the backfield. However, the most surprising thing is Tavani used some unconventional tactics ie in the Lafayette sense of the word. We relied on a very balanced run/pass combination. That option toss to Schuerman was great! I've been yelling for that for years... do tha in 2009 at Lehigh, we win. Tavani still gets a D for offense inside the 10.

WM may have overlooked us. Reading some pregame clips, it sounded like they were still thinking about last week.

The delay did not give them much of an advantage. I'm also shocked we didn't fold when something went wrong, like that fumble which led to a TD.

Where is LFN... 38-6...

On the other hand, we are not quite that good yet but it's the closest we've seen to a normal Pard team in awhile.

I'm here. Great win, and I agree, by far the best win by the PL thus far.

Congratulations, Leopards! By the transitive property, you're a point or two better than Maryland right now!

Seriously, this makes our OOC schedule look pretty grim. But I'd much rather you guys play us as a strong team than as a weak team. Way to handle business.

Still doesn't mean we're going to break the Princeton Curse, though. We'll still be biting our nails on October 6. Come to Easton for that one if you can, Babar.

Dont be so negative P4L key was qb ,who did not self destruct, and your OL which looks to gelling.. Shoop will have one of those " what the f*** " days but he seems much more under control.

Congratulations to Lafayette. I was there for the hurricane and butt kicking...neither was worth the 2 hr drive.

Where was this Ortiz kid earlier in the game?

That's an excellent question and one Tribe fans are asking. I'm not sure Ortiz would have mattered as Lafayette was the beater team in just about every area. I talked to a few Lafayette fans will we waited out the storm...good folks.

Ummmm.... uuhhhhhh... ummmm...

Agreed...that looked like Lafayette from 2009.
