Linebacker out of Caroline County (just north of Richmond) transfers from South Carolina to JMU. Was hurt last year and didn't play. He'll be a freshman at JMU. Richmond had recruited him out of high school and the coaches here thought he was a real good player with a lot of potential.

"Chronic back condition." Not good for his career, needless to say.

Welcome to the JMU Dukes, Brandon Samuels. It is nice to beat Delaware and W&M anytime, including getting transfers in the offseason. Best of luck to Samuels while he is here!

Here is some more information on him from http://www.gamecocksportscenter.com/FootBall/footballcommits04.htm

Brandon Samuels L 6-3 232 Fr. Milford, VA Caroline
- Runs a 4.72 40-yard dash
- Played inside linebacker at Caroline High School
- Played for Coach Ron Prady at Caroline High School
- Coach Prady on Brandon: "He is a good player who does a great job of being in the position to make plays and then he makes them. One of the biggest things about him is his size and his speed. Off the field, he is a very good student."

Nobody offered him a scholarship, so I'm not sure I'd say JMU "beat out" anyone for him.

He decided to attend JMU over Delaware and W&M. :p
