How many schools, other than CCSU, have 4 FCS playoff teams from last season on their schedule? I would guess maybe a few from the CAA ...

@ Stony Brook, vs. Lehigh, @ New Hampshire, @ Albany

Those first 3 weeks are as tough as any all-FCS schedule out there.

You should be glad that's the 2012 schedule, not the 2011 schedule.

To answer your question, we have 5 plus Maryland from the ACC.

UNI imo probably has the toughest schedule i've seen. Wisconsin should be preseason top15, Iowa is pretty respectable, followed by 5 of the top 6 teams in the MVFC. Luckily they should get 3 wins in a row to end the season, assuming their moral isn't completely crushed. 9

Sept. 1 at Wisconsin
Sept. 8 Savannah State
Sept. 15 at Iowa
Sept. 22 at Youngstown State
Sept. 29 North Dakota State Family Weekend

Oct. 13 at Southern Illinois

UNI needs to find a way to go into their bye week with 2 DI wins (at least 1 mathmatically unless the Valley beats each other up and they can somehow get the autobid).....otherwise it is going to be a tough hill to climb.

Yes, we start the season off with the cupcake tasting platter, but we do have the top 4 teams from the CAA standings last year, including both UNH and ODU on their fields, which aren't easy places to play. No FBS game this year, and the teams we miss in the CAA are a wash - missing JMU probably makes the schedule a little bit easier, but missing GA State means that we have one less guaranteed conference win than everyone else.

So, nothing super-challenging in the OOC schedule, but with the difficulty in the conference schedule, I'd rate ours as a 6.5-7 for difficulty.

Oct 06 @ Western Carolina
Oct 13 Wofford
Oct 20 @ Furman
Oct 27 @ Chattanooga
Nov 03 Appalachian State
Nov 10 Howard University
Nov 17 @ Georgia

Having Wofford and App at home is a great bonus, but we still have Chatty and Furman on the road, and we finish the season @ UGA. So I'll give our schedule a ~ 7.5.

Difficulty: 7
We play East Carolina and 3 FCS teams who made the playoffs in 2011. I believe that Chattanooga will make the playoffs in 2012 along with Montana, Georgia Southern and Wofford. Furman and Coastal have potential to make the postseason as well. The fact that our 'bye week' is 11/17 makes it even more challenging, as we do not have an off week until the end of the regular season.

Entertainment: 10
Really could not have asked for a better schedule. Our FBS game is against an in-state opponent with whom we have a long history (Appalachian leads the all-time series 19-11). We will bring a great crowd down to Greenville and our team should make the game very interesting. Host Montana in one of the best non-conference regular season FCS match-ups I can recall. Coastal Carolina is a great program to round out the non-conference slate as well. We will be favored over CCU but they are certainly no pushover. The SoCon looks like it will be a 3-4 bid league this year depending on how badly we all beat up on each other and it will be great to host Furman and Wofford with revenge on the mind.

Two simple OOC home games....wouldn't mind having slightly better competition in those I suppose. Bison home game in Sioux Falls. Reasonable drive to the UNI game for Bison fans.

Not to mention we get the 'Stache at home for the SIU game in what could be his last season there if he doesn't shape up.

Boy you Bison guys don't think much about the Big Sky competition. You rate UND low on a DII game but yet they play San Diego State, Montana, at Montana State, at Eastern Washington, Cal Poly...You have a Bowl team, 2 playoff teams, a National Title Champ from 2010 and a conference co-champ. You rate NDSU at a 6 with Robert Morris, Prairie View A&M, and 3 win Colorado State (already UND is tougher even with a DII team). UNI is the MVFC Co-champ but besides them the only teams that matches close to them would be Indiana St, Illinois St, and YSU. USD did have a winning record but 3 of their 6 wins were against non-DI teams so (3-5 vs DI teams..not impressive). Sorry I give NDSU a 4...maybe a 5.

+1. The best overall schedule App has had in years. Certainly no "record boosting" OOC games for a change and an FBS game that shouldn't leave us physically beat up for weeks afterwards as with the VaTech, LSU, Michigan, Florida type games (even if those are great fun for fans). We will miss having an open week during the regular season.

Can you blame us? Destroyed Montana State in 2010 after having a really "meh" season in the MVFC.

MVFC is set up to have a really good season. Records might not show it again at the end of the year but Playing a sub-DI gets you docked. A bowl team sure, but wasn't last year also a special year for San Diego State and now they lost a lot of their team? And if you can brag about the EWU game...shouldn't we brag about the USD game considering USD took care of business against EWU?

Looking at the teams in both schedules NDSU's pretty much equals UND. ( If it all comes down to UND playing SDSoM then NDSU tougher by 1).

Sept. 8 Central State
Sept. 15 at Iowa
Sept. 22 at Youngstown State
Sept. 29 North Dakota State Family Weekend
Oct. 6 Open
Oct. 13 at Southern Illinois
Oct. 20 South Dakota State Homecoming
Oct. 27 Illinois State Hall of Fame
Nov. 3 at Western Illinois
Nov. 10 at South Dakota
Nov. 17 Missouri State Senior Day

Had to fix it. We are no longer playing Savannah State. It was replaced with D2 Central State. Our schedule is really tough, and will be even more tough while breaking in a ton of new players. I would rate it around 8.5 or so. We have what should be easy games at the end, and what should be a win against Central State. The rest of the schedule though is going to be a meat grinder especially 4 out of the first 5 games.

Love the non-conference games against New Hampshire, Harvard, and Brown, but Wagner really irks me. I understand why Dartmouth is on the schedule because it is an easy trip for both teams and they are a historical rival, but I'd rather see Holy Cross get creative and play a team from the SoCon or another CAA team. Although, with scholarships coming, I anticipate a game against an FBS opponent in the future.

08/30/12 - Lock Haven

10/27/12 - at Holy Cross
11/03/12 - at Bucknell

Lock Haven balanced out by Cincinnati - a bit of a wash there but I like a warm up for our new coach to start the season and I also like a payout game so I'm fine with both of these being on the skid.

Otherwise, 'Nova is a great OOC game for us to have and 2 Ivies are good. It's no Towson but I think it's a great schedule for us.

PS - anyone know how Cornell & Columbia are supposed to this year? Weird thing happened with "Roar Lions Roar" as it went to a pay site but that's where I used to get my Ivy league info. Ivytalk? Anyone else? (Buehler?)

Per my comments about the Fordham skid, I think the Wagner game would be fine if it was a tune up but I agree with you that it's odd as the next-to-last game of the year. Otherwise it's a perfect PL type schedule and I also like the UNH, Brown, Harvard games. As you ramp up on scholarships it would be good to see that Dartmouth game replaced by BC soon!

They'll get almost $900,000 total. For SSU, it's a matter of "if we're gonna get run over by whoever we play, we might as well get the biggest beat down and the biggest check possible." They're actually mad that Georgia Southern pays them "only" $85,000 to drive 1 hour and get a beating every few years. SSU actually thinks they deserve a home and home series. How can they possibly claim that?

We've got the toughest schedule in the Big Sky. We're the only Big Sky team that has each of the preseason top 5 on the schedule.

Point being? The one school that has made the Big Sky into what it is, is probably going to have a down year.

Really like Montana's schedule. South Dakota's schedule is pretty dang good:

9/1/2012 at Montana
9/8/2012 Colgate
9/22/2012 at Northwestern
9/29/2012 Illinois State
10/6/2012 Western Illinois
10/13/2012 at Missouri State
10/20/2012 North Dakota State
10/27/2012 at Indiana State
11/3/2012 at Youngstown State
11/10/2012 Northern Iowa
11/17/2012 at South Dakota State

Quite a change for USD and UND, going from 3 sub-DIs last year to a full DI and almost full DI schedule. Nice jobs!

USD is going to have their hands full with that schedule. With zero road wins last year USD better hope they learned their lesson. I see maybe one road win (MSU) of course the (home/road) game against NDSU is going to be an ugly one. I give their schedule a 9.

Montana's schedule:

9/1 SOUTH DAKOTA
9/8 @App State
9/15 LIBERTY
9/22 NORTHERN ARIZONA
9/29 @Eastern Washington
10/6 @Northern Colorado
10/13 SOUTHERN UTAH
10/20 @North Dakota
10/27 IDAHO STATE
11/3 @Weber State
11/10 Finally a bye week!
11/17 MONTANA STATE

Love this schedule, so great to travel to The Rock. The first two road games see the Griz going to two fairly recent national champions (ASU and EWU), and EWU played really well in beating the Griz the last time we went to Cheney. Our bye week comes really late, but helps us prep for the Brawl. The Dakota schools and SUU will be interesting tests - if the Griz don't get a quarterback it could be a very very long season. I'd give it a 7.5 to 8.0, since we don't have an FBS team on the schedule and get the Cats at home.

Your evaluation of both schedules was clearly delusional. Your hatred for UND clouds your judgement because UND has the Big Sky 1-5 on their schedule, plus FBS San Diego State. Yes they have a warm up NAIA game, you have big bad PVAMU so not really much difference. Your schedule looks to be pretty tough. It screams arrogance when you predict undefeated and then say it is just a 6. At this point I hardly think I need to grow up as I was reacting to a steaming pile of BS.

Montana has made the postseason 18 of the last 19 years and has not had a season with less than 7 wins since '92. I'll believe they are really down when I see it. Along with the Griz, Montana State and Eastern Washington look like they are going to have very strong teams as well. The top tier of the Big Sky is about as good as any other FCS conference out there.

Enough people have discussed NDSU's schedule, so I won't bother commenting on that.

Idaho State:

9/1 @ Air Force
9/8 Black Hills St
9/15 Bye
9/22 @ Nebraska
9/29 Sacramento State
10/6 @ Portland State
10/13 UC Davis
10/20 at Northern Colorado
10/27 at Montana
11/3 Northern Arizona
11/10 at Cal Poly
11/17 Weber State

The good: NAIA game, no Montana State or Eastern Washington on the schedule

The bad: NAIA game, incredibly early bye, two FBS teams

I'm predicting a 3-8 season. Schedule is probably a 6 or 7.

Your OOC is a non counter lower division team, a non scholly team, and a team from the vaunted southland that won 5 DI games last year, they had 5 chances for a quality win and **** the bed every time. All that and you dont even have an FBS game. Keep thinking highly of your SOS. Its a 5, which is an average SOS.

Our OOC is close to the same it is a bit stronger, our conference schedule is a little stronger than yours, hence 5 vs 6.

Mmm id give it an 7 or 8.

Id give it a 3 for getting into the playoffs though.
The goofs are gonna be tougher this year and the traditional top end of the CAA will bounce back.

They will also have 50k in the stands instead of 30k, It was a pretty loud stadium even when 30% was bison. Its gonna get real loud when 100% are goof troop fans.
