View Full Version : Over/Under Countdown - Missouri Valley Football Conference

superman7515
July 13th, 2012, 11:17 AM
As with the other conferences, pick the over or under (everything is with a 1/2 game on the end, so no pushes) and we'll see who gets the most right at the end of the season. Remember that playoff wins will count, not just regular season wins, so pick as you feel appropriate.

1) Illinois State - 6.5 wins
2) Indiana State - 6.5 wins
3) Missouri State - 2.5 wins
4) North Dakota State - 10.5 wins
5) Northern Iowa - 8.5 wins
6) South Dakota - 4.5 wins
7) South Dakota State - 5.5 wins
8) Southern Illinois - 4.5 wins
9) Western Illinois - 3.5 wins
10) Youngstown State - 5.5 wins

Here's a link to the Over/Under Spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgExSkWOQzlxdFZTN3B6ZkF0bUhKYTlDd3k4VkdNU Xc) so you can keep track of your predictions and see what others guessed as well.

Here's the link to the threads for the conferences that have already been done in case you see a conference you didn't make picks for yet (or you can just click the hyperlink in conference headers of the Over/Under Spreadsheet):
Big Sky Conference (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?109386-Over-Under-Countdown-Big-Sky-Conference)
Big South Conference (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?109558-Over-Under-Countdown-Big-South-Conference)
Colonial Athletic Association (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?109758-Over-Under-Countdown-Colonial-Athletic-Association)
Ivy League (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?109975-Over-Under-Countdown-Ivy-League)
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?110215-Over-Under-Countdown-Mid-Eastern-Athletic-Conference)

Here's the schedule for the rest of the countdown:
July 18 - Northeast
July 24 - Ohio Valley
July 30 - Patriot
August 5 - Pioneer
August 11 - Southern
August 17 - Southland
August 23 - Southwestern
August 30 - Season starts!

And in case you didn't see the thread between the MEAC game and this one, after getting permission to use "AGS" there is now a trophy to play for:

The trophy will go to whoever has the most wins across all the conferences.

I see many people think NDSU will go undefeated. They very well could as they will be probably the best team in the country this year, but it will be very tough. And hopefully not too many people are picking both UNI and NDSU to go over since if NDSU is over UNI would have to beat either Wisconsin or Iowa.

Therein lies the other problem....

Sandwiched in between the two B10 games, is a crap DII game that UNI was forced to take after Savannah St got bought out by Florida St this spring. Meaning, that game (likely blowout W) won't count toward playoff eligibility. Barring an unlikely upset of Iowa or Wisconsin, UNI will have zero playoff counting wins after week three, and will have to go 7-1 to close out the year just to get to 7 wins. Which is going to be extremely difficult to do in a very tough MVFC this year.

So yeah, UNI is pretty much F'ed...

I think this kind of pot shot is why many MANY FCS fans have such a problem with the NDSU fans. It wasn't necessary and really had no place in this thread. UNI fans are already aware of the fact we haven't won a title. I have a hard time saying we flopped in the playoffs except for 2007 when we were undefeated and ranked #1 going in and lost in the Quarters. But I digress.

As for the first comment I guess I assumed this was regular season wins, I must not have read the original post good enough. It would make more sense then that NDSU would get to over.

It'd be hard not to call the Lehigh game a flop as well as the Montana game. Not that losing to Montana was anything to be ashamed of, just the way it happened. In spectacular fashion.

I misread it too my first time.

UNI wan an incredibly young team in '10 and really had no business being a playoff team that year considering. Yet somehow they rallied and found a way to win the conference championship and autobid to the playoffs. That UNI team relied on QB Tirrell Rennie to do literally everything offensively (to their own detriment), and he had hurt his knee in the last regular season game and was running at about 50% for that Lehigh game, and UNI just sputtered because of it. On top of that, people always are discounting how good a football team that Lehigh was. Its disrespectful to them. That was a really good team, and we have seen them have success the last few years.

I really could care less "the margin" in the Montana game. As if it would make anyone feel better if they lost by 7??. Stuff like that happens on the road. Things can snowball quickly in a hostile environment against good teams like that for sure.

UNI has more playoff wins than 90% of the entire FCS. Its funny that people like you think that, if UNI had randomly won a national title back in the 80's or something, years like last year where UNI lost in the quarters or semi's would be looked at as "another good playoff run" rather than a "flop". UNI does not have to prove anything to anyone. They have proven over the last 35 years that they have been one of the most winningest and consistent 1AA programs in the history of the division. A national title would just be the cherry on top if it were to ever happen.

My advice to UNI fans would be to take your medicine. I don't mean that in an a-hole kind of way either. UNI fans were very critical of NDSU and on numerous occasions UNI fans said to NDSU fans "come back when you have done something in Division I". Well here we are. You laid down the challenge and NDSU met it. So when it comes to NDSU fans talking trash, like I said, take your medicine because you asked for it.

You laid down the challenge and NDSU met it. So when it comes to NDSU fans talking trash, like I said, take your medicine because you asked for it.

Oh my God, give me a F'ing break. Take your medicine, LOL. NDSU came on boards like these in droves with douchebag fans talking smack left and right and YOU know it. Those fans earned their reputation and they earned every bit of smack that they received in return.

yep, only they were able to back up, unlike UNI's 'storied' program.

come back when you have accomplished something at the d1 level.

So because Lakes and JBB and MLPS are nuts, NDSU fans can't remind UNI fans that we accomplished the ultimate goal before them?

I do know it, I also know we back it up. UNI fans have earned having all of their smack talk thrown right back in their collective faces. So as I said, take your medicine and hope that we don't repeat this year. If you are going to dish out the **** talk, you have to be willing to take your lumps when the other guy puts you in your place.

If UNI beats NDSU this year and goes on to win a national championship, I'll be the first one here for you to rub it in my face. Until that time NDSU has bragging rights.xasswhipx

I have a post on here from years ago about NDSU winning the next NC for the MVFC. UNI fans just 'loved' it. I wish I could find it.

They will always be the 'also rans' and that can be hard to deal with.

Nope. You did not vote for the MEAC conference. The link to the spreadsheet with everyones votes is posted on the opening post of each thread, you can always click on the link and see what conferences, if any, you are missing. If you are missing a conference (or conferences) you can click on the conference name in the spreadsheet and it will take you to the thread on AGS.

Looks like the majority of posters have picked Illinois State as the OVER. The few that haven't are mostly non VALLEY posters.

Birds SHOULD have been in the playoffs last season and return a ton. In the offseason, ISU has shored up some areas and built on others. Going to make a bold statement here, and say given The Birds schedule, that Illinois State could make some serious national waves throughout the season. Could really suprise a lot of posters. xcoolx

Bull**it!!

When NDSU moved into the MV, many UNI fans belittled NDSU fans for our loyalty to our team. We are a loyal, passionate fanbase which many FCS teams do not have.

UNI is a good program but so is NDSU......live with it.

Except for, you know, actually following through and winning a national title in four years compared to UNI's fruitless three-decade quest for a win at the highest level an FCS team can aspire to.

It is real fun knowing that we have done the ultimate goal. And that they haven't. I shouldn't say we...or they...it is nice knowing that NDSU's football program has, and that UNI's has not.

come back when you have accomplished something at the d1 level.

I didn't know those fans played on the team? Someone needs to call the refs that blew that game...too many people on the field!!! Figures the only way NDSU can win is by cheating. Tsk tsk.

But really tho..i don't have to accomplish anything, nor does the fanbase or the university. Keep drinking the green piss that you call success because you and your fanbase did NOTHING to contribute to the team winning a national title. NDSU had a very good team. Everyone understands and sees that. YOU did NOTHING! You and the fans think you have the devine right to claim you won the game, you won the title...you did NOTHING. That's where the FCS fan world hates NDSU. NDSU is the only fanbase that actually thinks they are playing the game. Wow.

I'm not going to waste my time going back and reading all the back and forth but only want to post one comment about your reply. Every fanbase has it's share of fans who say things like "We won the game" or "We won the championship" and so on. Those saying it don't mean it literally as if they the fan won it along with the team. To have to point this out to you is sad and shows that either you are very young and shouldn't be commenting on these message boards since you take things literally or you just like to argue and paint with a broad brush. Either way it's comments like yours "That's where the FCS fan world hates NDSU" is so broad and so far off the mark that it only makes you look foolish. One more thing, NDSU has a lot of fans so naturally you are going to get more posters supporting NDSU commenting especially as we are about to start the football season. So my advice is take a chill pill or if you are old enough sit back with a cold one tonight and relax. It will do wonders for you!
