Sorry for the delay in getting this up today, I was over in the DC/Arlington area yesterday and today for work and we got a heck of a storm last night. Woke up this morning with no electric and trees down everywhere.

As with the other conferences, pick the over or under (everything is with a 1/2 game on the end, so no pushes) and we'll see who gets the most right at the end of the season. Any of the newer guys playing along, remember that the Ivy doesn't participate in the playoffs and only competes in 10 regular season games, so don't add anything for playoff games.

Here's a link to the Over/Under Spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgExSkWOQzlxdFZTN3B6ZkF0bUhKYTlDd3k4VkdNU Xc) so you can keep track of your predictions and see what others guessed as well.

Here's the link to the threads for the conferences that have already been done in case you see a conference you didn't make picks for yet:
Big Sky Conference (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?109386-Over-Under-Countdown-Big-Sky-Conference)
Big South Conference (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?109558-Over-Under-Countdown-Big-South-Conference)
Colonial Athletic Association (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?109758-Over-Under-Countdown-Colonial-Athletic-Association)

1) Brown - 6.5 wins
2) Columbia - 1.5 wins
3) Cornell - 4.5 wins
4) Dartmouth - 5.5 wins
5) Harvard - 8.5 wins
6) Penn - 5.5 wins
7) Princeton - 2.5 wins
8) Yale - 5.5 wins

And here's the schedule for the rest of the countdown:
July 6 - Mid-Eastern
July 12 - Missouri Valley
July 18 - Northeast
July 24 - Ohio Valley
July 30 - Patriot
August 5 - Pioneer
August 11 - Southern
August 17 - Southland
August 23 - Southwestern
August 30 - Season starts!

Since this includes all OOC games and not just the Ivy games, the strength of the OOC schedule has to be taken into account. Ivy is starting to play comparatively fewer Patriot teams - only 16 PL vs. Ivy contests this year. Some NEC teams have been added (Sacred Heart, Monmouth) though not the top NEC teams. Interesting that there are now three PFL games on the Ivy slate (Marist, Butler, San Diego). I expect to see even more PFL matchups in future years. There are three CAA contests as well, with only one Ivy other than Penn taking on a CAA team (Brown vs. Rhode Island - in their traditional game).

Brown: at Holy Cross, at Georgetown, at Rhode Island
Columbia: Marist, Fordham, at Lehigh
Cornell: at Fordham, at Bucknell, Monmouth
Dartmouth: Butler, at Holy Cross, Sacred Heart
Harvard: San Diego, Holy Cross, Bucknell
Penn: at Lafayette, Villanova, William & Mary
Princeton: at Lehigh, Georgetown, at Lafayette
Yale: at Georgetown, Colgate, Lafayette

As is typical, Penn has by far and away the toughest OOC schedule, with Villanova, W&M and Lafayette. Even though Lafayette has been down recently, the Pards still have owned Penn for the past several years in their ancient rivalry. There is a potential that even an Ivy title-contending Quaker team could lose all three of its OOC games.

Other than Penn, the top contender for the Ivy crown is Harvard. The Cantabs' OOC is much more forgiving than is Penn's. Only Holy Cross will present a challenge. The other potential contenders, Yale and Brown, have OOC schedules similar to one another which they each probably will split in some fashion.

Floundering Princeton could well lose all three of its OOC games (Lehigh, Georgetown, at Lafayette) while Cornell and Dartmouth each are set up to go at least 2-1 in OOC games.

My prediction is as follows:

1) Brown - 6.5 wins - Under
2) Columbia - 1.5 wins - Over
3) Cornell - 4.5 wins - Under
4) Dartmouth - 5.5 wins - Over
5) Harvard - 8.5 wins - Over

Haven't figured an overall view on the Ivy yet, but Princeton is hurting-badly. Program is in the worst shape since the Casicola years and 1-9 or 0-10 is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. Surace has really struggled as a Head Coach.

I don't know what's going on at Princeton, but it sure isn't pretty. Perhaps Surace is trying to apply NFL techniques to Ivy/PL opponents. That won't work. The style of play in the Ivy and PL has developed pretty much in a vacuum over the past 50 years. Given the types of players that the schools recruit, and the "interesting" (to say the least) schemes that we all employ, Surace might be better off trying to adapt regather than to invoke a wholesale change.

This is especially true up front - on both sides of the ball - where he's just not going to get the kind of brute force to which he had become accustomed with the Cincinnati Bengals. It's much more about technique, timing and deception in Ivy and PL contests.

We agree with UNDER for the Crimson Pantywaists, but I have finally taken the trouble to look at the schedule and now have reservations. Not exactly a trip down murderer's row for the Johns. The greatest difficulty appears to be having primary challengers Brown and Penn on the road.

So, how did you arrive at your conclusion? Natural pessimism?

Wow, Bogie is predicting the end of the Curse?

One win does not/will not end The Curse. We're talking 130 years and 4 wins here. Many on this board will be dead and buried before anyone can say with certainty that The Curse has joined them at Forest Lawn.

Still, can we just see a little progress? Can we pull tabby's tail just once in a while. Tigger was godawful last year, and since then has lost one of their top offensive weapons, RB Chuck Dibilio, to a freak medical condition. This should be like Cujo chewing on a stuffed cat, but it won't. However it ends, the 4th quarter will be total misery. You can bet on it.

Aptly put.

Even a blowout of those uppity Nassooldes upon the Pardsvillian Plains of October would have little discernible effect on the inertia of the presently-ongoing plague. It would take a decade of collecting Tiger Tail Trophies (with concomitant bleachings of the Vile Brown Stain) to set the course of world events back into its proper order.

Ummm . . . 4 wins over the Tiggers in 50-some games since 1883. The most recent coming at home in 2003. Need we say more?

N.B. - A tie in 1896 (also played in Easton) actually propelled the Pards to a national title. It's THAT significant to us. A win this season would almost make Georgetown's television schedule irrelevant by comparison.

It's not the curse. It's The Curse. And you are it - at least part of it. There are 8 teams - the Ivy League minus Columbia plus Colgate - that Lafayette historically has been unable to beat. It has gone on for over 130 years. It goes up and down. For instance the Leopards have won something like 5 of the last 6 from Penn. Some say that proves that The Curse has been broken. I say that the gods are merely having some fun; just toying with us. It's what future generations of Curse observers will refer to as the Bagnoli Break. Princeton is the poster pussy for The Curse where the record is 4-37-3. That's 4 wins in 130 years, since the first game - and loss - was recorded in 1883. There have been very strange games such as the 1991 Yale game in Easton, and more recently the 2010 Princeton game at Nassau, where the Pards clearly outplayed the effete snobs but other worldly forces intervened to deny a win. As for Eli the bulldog, not nearly as many games but Lafayette's first win ever against Yale was not until 2009. It is stated by some that these teams have just been better over the years. Perhaps. But that does not explain how Lafayette's primary competition such as Bucknell, Lehigh and Holy Cross have not had these same problems. The Curse lives.

Both have the looks of pretenders and not contenders this year. If the 'gaters don't get at least one of their first two League games (HC and Georgetown), the party's over. For Lafayette I think the early League game at Bucknell is a must win situation.

I have to give a lot of credit to Penn and Coach Al Bagnoli. The Quakers are bucking the Ivy OOC down-scheduling trend by playing two CAA powers plus a PL team that has beat them four in a row. Meanwhile, Dartmouth won't even consider old rival UNH, Yale won't go near a scholarship team and Harvard is looking at PFL teams.

Self interest aside, I hope that Penn makes a very good show of its OOC games and I hope that it continues with its rigorous OOC schedule in upcoming seasons. The Quakers have shown that they can handle it. There's no reason to suspect that they won't in the future.

On the other hand, shame on you, H and Y. You guys have more athletic money and sports-conditional endowments than God and Scientology put together. You criss-cross the nation with three times our recruiting budget and out-recruit us at almost every turn. We understand athletic philosophies, academic indices and subjugation of athletics to academics. But it's starting to look like you're doing this on purpose (and with a bit of spite) and it's going to catch up to you eventually.

Penn fans - a tough Villanova game, and W&M at home? What's not to like? Let's see 20,000+ at Franklin Field! H-Y-P - load up on Georgetown all you want, but tussles with Morehead State and Valparaiso aren't going get you high marks from your fans or from your players, who likely would prefer tradition over sedition.

Yale plays Cal Poly (or whatever they like to be called) in 2013 and Army in 2014.

Even if they all lose all their OOC games?

I think that's mathematically impossible.

Perhaps in "SF" they do not realize that the Ivys play each other AND that they follow the generally accepted NCAA rules which, by and large, require that there be a WINNER as well as a loser for each game. Sorry, SF you may hold the Ivy League in low esteem for their current brand of non-scholarship, non-playoff football, but it is impossible for every team to lose every game.

PS: For SF and every other football snob out there - just because the Ivys choose not to participate in your little season ending round robin does not mean that they are non-competitive. The top tier of the Ivy League is very good and could knock helmets with anyone.

+1 on this one, well said Bogie.

Remember the Ivies only play ten games, so it's mathematically quite possible.

Without going into how likely the standings would turn out like this:
Harvard 6-1, 2-1 = 8-2 under
Brown 4-3, 2-1 = 6-4 under
Dartmouth 4-3, 1-2 = 5-5 under
Penn 4-3, 1-2 = 5-5 under
Cornell 3-4, 1-2 = 4-6 under
Columbia 3-4 over
Yale 3-4, 2-1 = 5-5 under
Princeton 1-6, 1-2 = 2-8 under

If I read this correctly you have Columbia with 3 wins and Princeton with 2. Either of those happening is about a .03 probability and BOTH is not freakin' possible. You are confusing mathematically possible with delusional.

Actually I'm not confusing them at all. I didn't predict this, I said I wasn't going into how likely. It IS mathematically possible.

But if you insist, Columbia can be 1-6 in league and 1-2 OOC for 2-8, over. The additional Ivy wins over the Lions can be countered by an extra OOC loss by each of the two teams that get them. And Princeton only won a single game last year, I'm allowing them 100% improvement.

Gate, no faith in the Tigers? Do they expect Dibilio to be recovered?

With or without Dibilio (I'm betting without) Tigger is a bottom 10 candidate for all of FCS. They are that bad. Their all Patriot League OOC schedule is not daunting with Lehigh, Georgetown and Lafayette, but still are veritable mountains for this team. The only Ivy rival (and the only team) they beat last year (Columbia) has a new coach and should at the very least have a new attitude. Exactly where do you see 3 wins coming out of this? Someone should start a thread questioning why/how, of the three Ivy schools with six pack name recognition and an incredible recruiting advantage everywhere they go, Princeton has sunk to this level.

Surace was a mistake. In general, they have slipped even further from the last couple of years under Hughes, and there is little relief in sight. It is a sad situation and reminiscent of the 1970's, which was a lost decade for Tiger football.
