What I-AA football related issues is your fan base discussing this off-season? What other athletic department issues are keeping your fan base interested in your program across the board, especially your football program?

The football discussion centers around the new score/video board at our football stadium, Bowers. We have the adjacent weight facility as well that many fans are just looking forward to seeing how it helps recruiting.

The biggest question mark that our fans have about the quarterback situation. Who's going to start? Noah Allen? Philip Daughtery? Brett Hicks? Wade Pate? Three of those guys have been starters at one point or another! Oh yeah, three of those guys are juniors and one of them is a senior. We going to bring in a transfer or a HS QB? This concerns the Bearkat Nation heavily...

Just this week, we found word that we got a new recruiting coordinator and special teams coach from Div II West Texas A&M. That's a big hire for the Kats considering special teams is a big staple of the Kats program having a recent All-American place kicker and lots of Kat fans and players love putting an emphasis on our kick-blocking...

Elsewhere, in other sports, we've got new scoreboards at basketball. We're looking for a baseball coach. Just hired a womens' tennis coach (from I-AA rival Missouri St). And we just won the Southland Conference Commish Cup, the first school to win in back to back years, as well as once more, sweeping the SLC outdoor track and field titles...

The biggest news at Cal Poly is the $21.5 million renovation of the west side of Mustang stadium and if it will be ready for our first game on Sept. 2nd. My bet is it will not be ready until our second game on Sept. 30th against Southern Utah. I think the administration believes this also seeing that the dedication (it will be renamed Alex G. Spanos Stadium/Mustang Memorial Field) is scheduled for that weekend. I think that it will be worth the wait.

I think we should put you in charge of all the hurricane relief and rebuilding projects since you seem to have all the answers and you also seem so very sensitive to the millions of people who suffered unbelievable losses.

To answer your questions would first mean I would have to provide you with some basic organs that you seem to lack. You have no heart and if you have a brain, you haven't invested much in trying to fill it with much (or perhaps your investments were equivalent to junk bonds).

McNeese suffered 30 million in property damage, which the stadium lights and press box damage were just a very small portion of that amount. On top of the building and/or property damage, you add more in equipment damage (probably another 2 to 3 million). FEMA will pay a portion of the damage after state insurance pays what it will pay. However, here is the bad part. The state has to fix all state property damaged by the two hurricanes. They have a list of priorities to go off of that the State legislature had voted on. They have ranked damages and placed all facilities and relative damage on a hierarchy if you will. The hierarchy must be followed in strict order!

McNeese has money to fix the stadium lights and pressbox, but the state says that they can't use their money to fix anything on the state legislative list. So we are fighting "the powers that be" to use donated money to fix our stadium issues. You may wonder why it is important for us to have lights at Cowboy Stadium. McNeese plays night games (only once every few years might there be a day game) because Lake Charles attends night games at double the attendance of day games. Therefore, if we don't use the donated money to fix the stadium issues, then we will lose over half our gate for the season and we will also lose the donated money, as there are specific stipulations on how and when you must spend the donated dollars. If we do not spend the donated money within the next few months, we lose it. If we do lose the money, then the taxpayers’ money has to be spent on something that could have been paid for by private donations. How smart is that (perhaps you were in on this type of thinking Bobcat 94)?

So you see, McNeese is trying to spend the best non-tax dollars on the stadium damages and leave the Political Geniuses to make priority lists of what should be fixed first. These lists are made with typical politics behind them as areas like Lafayette, LA get repairs done to a certain state school, who any mental midget (probably kin to you Bobcat 94) knows was not impacted much by either Hurricane.

To answer those who really might care, the McNeese Administration is using all the power it has to find a way to complete the repairs by the first home game so as not to cause more financial debt.

Well lets see you obviously seem to think I feel it appropriate for the government to help everyone and that donations made by many (INCLUDING ME) should be frivolously ear marked. Hell I spent a night down at the convention center here in Austin helping refugees from Katrina and Rita. I’ve seen what people working together in many instances can do (Guess that confirms my lack of compassion).

You can’t be further from the truth regarding my opinion. I’d love to see everyone pick themselves up by their bootstraps and/or help their neighbor. (I consider myself a neighbor with such a regional impact.) There is way too much reliance on the government. The issues I have begin when a year has past and there is little or no progress and your local politicians (doesn’t matter if they are Jack Ass, Pacaderm, or any other equivalent) still are confused on how money should be distributed, DEBRIS PICKED UP (it’s been a year, mind you), etc.

Well lets see you obviously seem to think I feel it appropriate for the government to help everyone and that donations made by many (INCLUDING ME) should be frivolously ear marked. Hell I spent a night down at the convention center here in Austin helping refugees from Katrina and Rita. I’ve seen what people working together in many instances can do (Guess that confirms my lack of compassion).

You can’t be further from the truth regarding my opinion. I’d love to see everyone pick themselves up by their bootstraps and/or help their neighbor. (I consider myself a neighbor with such a regional impact.) There is way too much reliance on the government. The issues I have begin when a year has past and there is little or no progress and your local politicians (doesn’t matter if they are Jack Ass, Pacaderm, or any other equivalent) still are confused on how money should be distributed, DEBRIS PICKED UP (it’s been a year, mind you), etc.

NOT THE HURRICANE, but the amazing lack of ineptitude of your local municipalities, parishes, and the state to get it right and/or getting in the way of relief. Unfortunately, whenever a disaster strikes, like the Gulf Coast hurricanes, the government is involved. Sadly, whatever they do is criticized (whether they are not enough involved or too much involved). In these disasters it was a little of both. Add in that there are multi-levels of govt. that have to get involved and you have the perfect recipe for a relief pace that can't keep up with slugs. Therefore, it is our system of too much red tape and too many hands that have to be greased that cause so many delays in actually helping those who need it. I believe there are many more hard-working govt. employees who truly want to help but they simply are bogged down in planning, re-planning, explaining, detailing etc. to verify spending of taxpayers dollars. And then there are the low lifes that come in and try and take advantage of the survivors and fraudulently take money from those who it was well intended by the govt. This fraud in turns calls for more paperwork and procedures in the future to keep the same thing from happening again. And it keeps perpetuating the waste of time, manpower and money.

On a good note, there were a lot of really kind hearted, giving people who helped with the relief work. Many are still helping. Personnel with FEMA and the military were kind and helpful in almost all cases. Even they are weighed down by rules and regulations, but they still managed to help in a myriad of ways. I hope that none of you ever has to see what is required in this type of emergency, but if you should find yourself in this same type of need, I hope the help that Lake Charles and other communities received is given to you with the same dignity, kindness and selflessness that was given to us. The temperatures here right after the hurricane were in the upper 90's (with the Louisiana humidity) for several weeks and there was no electricity for at least two weeks, but the relief workers of the military, FEMA, and Red Cross worked around the clock outside in the heat to help and protect Lake Charles and other communities.

I try to remember all the good of mankind when the pace of recovery still seems slow. It helps to see what has been done and not just what needs to be done. But I digress.............:rolleyes:

I think the above by-line is a little premature. Putting SLC Champs 2005 is certainly allowable (though in truth it should say Co-Champs) as you are the 2005 SLC football Champ. Saying you are the 2006 Champs is a picture of the future that has not been determined. TSU just won their very first ever SLC football championship (certainly something to be proud of and something to wear proudly), but acting/assuming that it will happen next year seems a little delusional. If, TSU had just won the 3rd, 5th, or 10th championship in the last 10 or 15 years you might have some genuine expectation to assume another consecutive championship.

I am not saying it cannot happen, because your coach and program are certainly forward moving. What I am saying is that stating it as if it was a fact is arrogant.

I think you have Lake Charles and SW LA confused with New Orleans. And working at some relief center does not give you any idea of the damage that was suffered down here. 90% of the buildings in the Cameron parish just South of us were totally wiped out, gone, not there anymore. You'd have to been down here and seen it for yourself to believe it.

Our local cities and parish governments in SW LA. did a great job during and after the hurricane. And the citizens of this area pitched in the recovery efforts and didn't sit around waiting for the government to do it for them unlike some of the people on the SE side of the State.

If you have read Jeannie's (Rocket's) post, you should been able to realize that we have raised a lot of the money to do the repairs ourselves but the dumbass state government (that's those people over there on the east side of the state) and politics are preventing us from going ahead and doing it.

I went to Cameron/Oak Grove a couple of weeks ago to help rebuild. From Port Arthur,TX to Lake Charles,LA (about 110 miles) There are ZERO gas stations and ZERO Restaurants open!!! I was stunned and got the feeling that those people are screwed because all the money is going to a city built 10 feet under sea level.

Progress is continuing on the re-setting of the light standards at McNeese State's Cowboy Stadium and Richard Rhoden, the university's director of facilities and plant operations, said that all should be up and operable within a 35 day period. Foundations for six light poles, four on the east side and two on the west side, have been completed with the foundations now extending 30 feet into the ground and being 54 inches in diameter. The other two light poles on the west side are connected to the press box.

"This should be very sufficient," Rhoden said. "Before, they were only set 10 to 12 feet in the ground with a 36 inch diameter." The McNeese director said that Hurricane Rita caused no damage to the poles and that they are currently being repainted. He added that the lights will be re-set and re-lamped. "We should have better lighting than before," Rhoden added.

McNeese has six home games scheduled this season, all of them under the lights with the opener set for September 9 against West Virginia Tech. Other home games are against South Dakota State on Sept. 30, Southern Utah on Oct. 7, Texas State on Oct. 14, Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 4 and Nicholls State on Nov. 18.

Last year McNeese played only two games in Cowboy Stadium because of the hurricane and both games were day outings.

I was about to say the same thing.. Locally, We took care of ourselves after Rita thanks to Former Mayor Mount's establishing of a Rainy Day Fund and to a Tough Police Chief... Since Mcneese is a state school, we have to battle red tape and corruption and the money pit that is New Orleans sucking everything from the state.

I might add that even though Mcneese offered refunds for part of the 2005 season ticket package, nearly everyone refused the refund and donated that money back to the school. That's about 7,000 tickets.
