The voting is now in:
Both SHSU and NDSU finished 14-1
Both beat a FBS team
NDSU's loss was to an unranked YSU (6-5)
SHSU's loss was to #2 ranked one loss team

This one is a no brainer in the BCS world....

Congratulations!! Sam Houston State is the champion!!!!!!

NDSU next year try to work on getting a few more quality wins.

My thought is that in the BCS system, Georgia Southern would have been crystal champs.

You'd also potentially see something like the winner of the UNI vs MSU BCS bowl getting some first place votes

You're forgetting one aspect regarding the vote - Head to Head Matchup.

Final SoS numbers (Jan. 7th): SHSU #33 & NDSU #10. At start of playoffs, SHSU was #116.
Final Opposition # of wins (Jan. 7th): SHSU - 76; NDSU - 93. At end of regular season, SHSU's opponents only had 47 wins, hence the #116 ranking.

But thank goodness that there is a playoff format so that the champion is decided on the field and not by some computers or opinions.

If SHSU was in a FCS power conference like SoCon/MVFC/CAA, they get 14 wins when you add 2 seasons together.

Sounds like some changes are coming to a BCS near you.

I would like to see the following format:

- no more BCS bowl games. All bowls including the Rose, Sugar, Orange and Fiesta make their own deals with the conferences to determine what teams will play in the bowl games.
- no more BCS title game as another bowl game
- all bowl games are played and then the final BCS standings come out

- then the title game is played between #1 and #2 as an independent game from the bowls at a location that is bid on (could be hosted anywhere)

I think that's the best we're going to get.

The BCS would have Georgia Southern play Appalachian State (or possibly Wofford). No team west of the Mississippi River or north of the Main-Dixon line would be considered.

The BCS is stupid. Plain and simple.

I won't be happy with a 4 team playoff either. It would be nice to see them go to 12 teams atleast. But if they can get to 4, atleast it would be a starting point to where they could expand and it get it to more of a FCS similar system.

Never happen. Bowl games and conferences control the money, so they control the post-season format. A 4 team playoff is doubtful because they know it will just lead to a bigger playoff.

I would like to see all the bowls go back to the way it was before the bowl alliance, each bowl signs contracts with conferences to fill up slots. No automatic access for being ranked in the top whatever or being the champion of a conference. At the end of the bowl season, run the BCS rankings one more time and then play the #1 v #2 game at some NFL stadium like Dallas or whoever bids highest for it.

No...the NCAA has nothing to do with the BCS.

Its the NCAA's format to use Bowl games and not a playoff system. The NCAA does have something to do with this.

It would be a minimum 8 team playoff.

All 6 BCS conferences would have an autobid, then the 2 remaining spots would traditionally go to 2 atlarge teams from the 6 BCS conferences, or occasionally if a nonBCS team is ranked in the top 4 (of the computer poll) they would take the atlarge, assuming 2 and 3 were conference champions in a BCS conference.

Ex

1 Alabama* SEC
2 Arkansas SEC
3 LSU SEC
4 Nevada* NonBCS

Nevada would not gain an atlarge in this case.

1 Michigan* Big10
2 Stanford* Pac25
3 Florida* SEC
4 Nevada* NonBCS

*denotes conference champion
Nevada would gain an atlarge in this case.

1 Michigan* Big10
2 Stanford* Pac39
3 Florida* SEC
4 Texas* Big6
5 Nevada* NonBCS
6 West Virginia* Bignorth

Nevada would be passed over and all atlarges would go to BCS conference teams even though they are lower ranked.

Because even with a playoff system, good teams that aren't BCS still get a screw job.

Nope.

The conferences and the bowl games were there first. The NCAA had no place to take that away and they still don't.

Is that why the NCAA doesn't want a playoff?? Or is it why the NCAA "can't" have a playoff.
