This game is between the two top seeded playoff teams in the North Dakota State Bison versus the Sam Houston State Bearkats. This is the third Missouri Valley Football Conference versus Southland Conference championship game. The MVFC has won the prior two meetings with Youngstown State defeating McNeese State 10-9 in 1997 and former MVFC member Western Kentucky defeating McNeese State 34-14 in 2002.
