I was curious to find out what the longest winning streak in FCS history is. Sam is at 16 straight right now going back to the final 2 games of 2010. Since most of the teams who historically have had the ability to put together long winning streaks also play a pretty good FBS program on a fairly regular basis, I just wanted to know what the history books say for the FCS and this board seems like a place where there are folks who might know.

Thanks for the info for anyone who has it.

I'm not sure what the record is but Georgia Southern had a 16 game streak in '89 and their first game of 1990.

that is kind of a goofy streak you get to count last years final wins, but you didnt make the playoffs, so you couldnt lose. not making the playoffs should be counted as a loss. just kidding but you know what i mean

Some of the longer streaks mentioned above (i.e. San Diego) featured teams that did not make the playoffs despite some undefeated seasons! :)

Well if you guys get by NDSU you should shatter that record, any average team would go undefeated in the southland conference every year.

Very few teams have gone undefeated in Southland football. Don't speak for teams you have no business talking about.

Any kind of sustained streak in the FCS is something special these days I think. Between the playoffs and frequently playing FBS teams, it's gotta be tough to maintain a streak over the course of one season, let alone more than one. Sam Houston State deserves some praise for going 16 straight, even if they didn't make the playoffs last year. It's hard to argue they don't belong there now.

The Southland is a very weak conference and I know what I am talking about because we play in one as well. If the Griz were in the Southland we would lose one game every 5 years.

Well, we could start with a loss every time the Griz traveled to Bowers

So does last weekend count? Give me a break. Yeah its not a top 2 or 3 conference at the FCS level but every once in awhile they put together some solid teams. It is just tough to travel to Canada and WaGrizz stadium for playoff games...I see you guys don't like to travel down south either....(pre-emptive strike to reference the JMU game...)
