That is very exciting. I felt good during this process. We were in a good situation with our two finalist Roberts and Campbell. Roberts has the skins on the wall as a head coach and hopefully he can take us where we want to go. I think he will.xthumbsupx

Good hire! Just glad we finally got it behind us so we can move on ... I know most of the base wanted Campbell, but Roberts was a strong 1B ... he'll inherit a lot of young talent, just hope he can add to it and get us through what looks to be a rough schedule in 2012.

Any idea why Roberts would leave DSU for SLU? Seems he had a really good situation in Cleveland, Miss. and going to SLU would give him a much more difficult situation in which to compete.

Helluva hire...

HAMMOND – Ron Roberts, who guided Delta State University to four Gulf South Conference championships and four appearances in the NCAA Division II playoffs, has been named as 15th head football coach at Southeastern Louisiana University.

The hiring of the 44-year-old Roberts, a native of Visalia, Calif., is subject to approval from the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.

In a successful five-year tenure at DSU, Roberts led the Statesmen to a 47-16 record, four 10-win seasons and two NCAA Super Region II titles that included an appearance in the 2010 NCAA Division II national championship game and the 2011 semifinals.

Delta State is the 'big fish' and can remain a national contender. I know moving to Division I gets folks excited, but SLU is definitely a tough job. I think they be competitive, but it's not going to be a walk in the park...

It's a tough job at present but comes with a big upside ... if the commitment is there from top down, we'll win ... judging from the presser this morning, I feel much more confident the commitment will indeed be there ... we'll see.

Have not had a chance to watch the presser yet... will try to do so.

Great feedback, lionsrking! Was upset that the SLU-SHSU game was moved and could not make my bi-annual visit. May have to sneak a non-SHSU related visit in this year.

Mr. Roberts is a good hire. He was our DC at Texas State. The man has integrity but coached with that crazy Manny Matsakis at the time.

Yeah, it's hard to find anybody with anything negative to say about Roberts ... the Delta State folks love him and seem to be genuinely happy for him ... he came highly recommended from coaches across the country, including NFL people ... a lot of our base wanted Miss Gulf Coast CC coach, and former Lion, Steve Campbell, but I think most are equally pleased with Roberts ... I commend our administration for stepping up and making this hire happen ... very large and enthusiastic crowd at the press conference this morning!
