All I gotta say is:
How about Stony Brook now..?

If Sam Houston wins the National Championship shouldn't Stony Brook be ranked in the top 5..?

In my opinion, no. They played SHSU tight but they still lost at home to Brown and their best win was by 3 over Albany.

Wasn't Brown 9-1 this season...

Brown was 7-3 and they were Columbia's only win.

No. In 2004 we lost to James Madison, the National Champion, 14-13 on a very questionable call in the first round, yet finished around 15th in the final poll, with a 9-3 record. Losses to Stony Brook and Lafayette obviously held against. Same rationale.

Uggh - please don't bring that game up.

We stopped them 7 consecutive plays near the GL, and still lost because of that "personal foul". That game really irks me...

That is why BOWLS are better?
35 teams get to end with a win. :)

Who is Stony Brook?? Why would they be ranked at all?

That close loss will move them up in my ballot, personally - where they end depends on how SHSU does in the NC game, and who they do it against.

Still, kudos to Stony Brook. By game numbers, it appears they could give the Griz a very good game (based on how they both did at SHSU), and I had not anticipated that.

Shouldnt Albany be 5th then? xsmiley_wix

Albany essentially gave the game to Stony Brook at Stony Brook.

Seriously though, both SBU and Albany should start the year ranked next year.

... it was unsportsman like for celebrating stopping them the first four time, who would do such a thing? xrolleyesx. I was one of the 10,000 on the grass hill that day :D

Other than the National Champion, who merits their final spot, everyone else, when it comes to the final poll, should be rated on their body of work for the year. Focusing on one game here and there ignores the reality that all season long very good teams will lay a stinker and very bad teams, for one day, get it together for an upset. Focusing on anomalies warps the perception. We need to consider overall quality and consistency.

Is Stony Brook in the Semifinals? They aren't? Then the answer is simple. No.

That didn't matter last year for us. We were in the Quarterfinals last year and arguably one play (pick which ever one you want) from the Semis and I want to say we were either 9 or 10 in alot of polls.

The better question is whether any team from Montana could beat Stony Brook at Stony Brook.

Should Albany be in the Top 6? We lost on a f'd up play with next to no time left...on their 3...in an incredible game by both teams.

Silly Cleets :)

only if JMU is ranked #5 ....

Makes sense. Dukes definitely played NDSU much tougher than either Lehigh or GSU.

Considering we were not even in the conversation this time last year, 10-12 is very reasonable. We lose Brock Jackolski and Matt Brevi due to graduation but return just about everyone else . We have some pretty good red shirts coming up and who knows who else in this years recruiting class. Dont overlook Javar Cruz at running back teaming up with Maysonet. Cruz is another Hanson Award Winner who saw limited playing time this year but had 6 TD's as a back up.

I understand the temptation to start all the "what ifs", but if we go down that road and say Sam Houston beats NDSU by more than 3 points, do we call Montana the "runner up"? It's difficult enough to make sense out of the many dynamics involved in team by team match-ups during the regular season.
